(8/10) Yeah. Air was... important, for certain reasons. Lucijah had let herself get swept along in the energy of the kiss, fingernails biting into Ai's skin as she gripped onto her for some sort of stability. When they finally broke apart, her scalp stung a bit from Ai's grip, and her lip felt tender when she ran her tongue over it. Most importantly, she heaved in lungfuls of air, just clinging on to Ai, not yet pulling away from where they'd pressed, close, together.
If meeting Ai again, after their separation, had been surreal, then this could only be a some sort of fanciful dream, right? In its own, crazy way.
Still dragging in shuddering breaths, Lucijah leaned up on her toes and kissed Ai's cheek, resting her lips briefly just below the row of markings on her cheekbone, just because she could now.

Every ounce of Ai's flesh fluctuated between shivering from an unconscious chill or a heat so warm it made the marks on her back burn. Her stomach rolled with a mixture of old revulsion, the kind she'd been indoctrinated to accept as her own, and a feeling of relief that she couldn't name. She felt almost high from it all, like it was just too much to process and her mind had just stopped.
She was shaken from her reverie by the softer kiss on her cheek and found herself responding in kind. Ai moved her head just enough to brush her cheek against Lucijah's with the feel of the earthlings crystals proving odd to her. She'd always expected them to be cold like the stones atop the ground and while there was temperature difference they still held some residual warmth from Lucijah's flesh.
"You're still here."

(9/10) There was something going on there, a tension that briefly lined Ai's body, subtle but there just under Lucijah's fingertips. But then Ai responded, and Lucijah opted to dismiss whatever it was making the Alkidike stall. What mattered was that when Lucijah tucked herself closer, in a gesture definitely sweeter than the heated kiss of moments before, Ai responded in kind by bumping their cheeks together.
She smiled, closing her eyes as they leaned their faces together, feeling a sort of peace settle over her for the first time in...a long, long time. Definitely the first time, since she'd been an adult with actual problems, and not just idealized fantasies as a prentice.
"Mmhm. I'm not leaving again." Lucijah murmured, clutching Ai to her just a bit tighter at the thought. She'd done it once, and whatever her reasons had been, she knew how much she'd regret it.

The way she was able to hold her close made it feel as if Lucijah was always meant to be there. Ai's hands were much more gentle now than they had been moments before, but no less demanding in their grasp. Despite the fact that the shifter was there, physically encased in her arms, it was like Ai unconsciously didn't trust it. Like she was just moments away from having it all slip away again.
And unlike anything else in her life, that scared her. The vulnerability that this earthling brought about in her was terrifying.
"We shouldn't go back tonight," she murmured into Lucijah's skin. She didn't want to leave that cave; not for a while, at least. If they left whatever this was might stay behind and she wanted to explore it just a little longer.

(10/10) Objectively, maybe she should be defensive. Ai already was leery at the idea of being seen with Lucijah here in Yael, and kissing in a private, secluded spot felt awfully like a secret. When she was younger, she'd have balked at the idea of being someone's secret (again), or worse - being her pet of sorts. But this wasn't like those past days, it wasn't like that in the slightest, and Lucijah knew it with a certainty that settled her down to her bones.
It was new, and perhaps fragile, and Lucijah didn't see any reason to question or rush it. It was unrealistic to think someone like Ai, coming from the extreme she had only months before, wouldn't feel some conflicted emotions about... this. Whatever THIS was.
Not that Lucijah really understood it, at that moment. Right now, she just felt that contented peace, and nodded, distractedly, closing her eyes. "Yeah... s'nice here, anyway." She agreed, squeezing Ai as she turned her eyes upwards toward her, grinning a bit dopily.
