Axinite nodded, relieved that the hardest part had been taken care of. The power, this was easy. This was in, out, problem solved. The questions, not so much. Those could go on for a while, and Axinite always liked to make sure that they knew what they were getting into. He smiled at Ashton apologetically and moved to take Sylvite’s place before him. “It’s wonderful to meet you. I’m so sorry for this trouble. We’ll get this all taken care of shortly. It might hurt a bit, and I am sorry for that, but it will only last for a moment. Things are much easier afterwards. I’ve got snacks and a drink for you afterwards, I want to keep your sugar up. I’m sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself.” He reached his hand into his chest. “Deep breath, hold it.” He was gentle, with his words and his tone, and the way he channeled the energy into the starseed he was holding. It always hurt. But, it was always worth it.

It burned. It burned, like fire, like acid, like anything that didn't have a name. Ashton tried to keep her chin up and not stumble, but it was so hard not to fall; she couldn't breathe, she couldn't - it felt wrong, it felt wrong, in a way she couldn't describe - But like anything else, the pain was over eventually; it dissipated all the way out to his fingertips, a skittering numb awareness of not-right, the way a pinched nerve might be. If anyone knew anything about nerves, it might well have been the Senshi of the Flesh. Aschera didn't collapse onto Axinite's hand, not quite, but her shoulders were heaving and her breath was coming in shallow pants - for a bit - and then, once she'd had just long enough to resettle herself and be mostly sure her voice wouldn't break, she said "Thank you.", quietly. It wasn't exactly the ideal thing to say, there was so much more that could've had a place there -- but he had hurt, so badly, and all the proper words had gone on the fritz for those seconds.

There wasn't much that Sylvite could do during the actual hand in chest part of the whole recruitment process, given that the recruit in senshi happened to be a senshi. Standing over to the side, she tried to smile encouragingly and wince sympathetically at the same time, which probably gave her a kinda weird facial expression in the end. Then, when it was over, she just switched back to grinning. The outfit probably was a little bit hardcore halloween-y for what she would have designed, but she had to admit that it would make a really good match with whatever Adonis had going on. She wondered, since he could peel people's skin off, if someone wearing a suit made of muscles could peel people's muscles off. That'd be useful. That was also a question for later, though. "Look at you," she said, instead, clasping her hands in front of her chest. "You did it! You're all magical, and strong, and you're a senshi like I thought, so you are extra special!"

Once Aschera had a moment to look down and at herself and her new outfit, she raised an eyebrow, in an impressively restrained display of emotion. (Internally, it was more on the fritz -- too obvious. Too gory. Not at all the right image he wanted to portray most of the time. But this all had different parameters, so she'd need to figure out what she could do about this too. One step per moment was the right way to go around exploring unknown territory such as this.) It was -- good, to hear that he was special, to hear that he was something unique. It made it feel less like all this time waiting for magic and wanting hadn't been a devil's proof of options - wanting, in perpetuity, with no proof it could or couldn't be. "Thank you," she mumbled again, much quieter and a little hoarse, and then, "and the next step from here?" There was still that sense of sparks in his veins, running rampant and bursting, not-quite-painful but something off - but that wasn't all that strange in and of itself, only that it'd become so physical here.

"Up next is resting," said Sylvite, quickly and with her voice almost starting to edge into boss mode, because she was already starting to see that this senshi was someone who was gonna try pretty hard to to look good in front of people like Axinite, but that didn't mean that it was any good to listen to an hour of lectures like five seconds after you got Chaos shoved into your starseed. "I mean, you give me a way to get in touch with you, and then you rest. If you have any really pressing questions we can go over them now, but I think it'll go better if you crash first and then we go over the nitty gritty of what powers you have and what your duties are gonna be, afterwards." The words came fast. They almost were squishing together or tumbling over each other, the way that they always did when Sylvite got more excited that normal about something. This was what she'd needed. She could see it now. She'd just needed a senshi, a project, maybe a friend. Everything was gonna be okay. "Welcome to the Negaverse!"

Taking orders from a girl over half a foot her junior in pink and bows hadn't been on any of Ashton's plans for the evening, but she was adaptable, and she was clinging to that fact. It was either that or laugh, and this was an inappropriate time for laughter, for anything but listening and agreeing; that was important. "No pressing questions," and that wasn't quite true, he was sure he had some, but they'd blitzed straight out of his head with the pain of that transformation and awakening. Undoubtedly they'd come back after Sylvite had left, because that was how that sort of thing always went; questions she wanted to ask only returned to her when it was a little too late. "My phone number is -" and he rattled it off, one-breath, and then a second time, slower - "but you'll want to text me first with some identifying detail, or I won't answer any calls." Pause. One, two, three, give that time to sink in. "And if we - sit down," because standing was a little tiring, these were not the heels she'd expected, "I can offer you a more classic availability chart, the way some prospective employers want them. It helps to have those prepared in advance." God, was he overachieving in a way that would have negative consequences on how they thought of him? No. No, probably not. Hopefully not. First impressions were -- so important. And it was late, it was late, so perhaps these two would excuse any coming on too strong.

Sylvite hadn't remembered to shove her cell phone into her subspace pocket on that particular day, but she was tapping the number into her tablet as quick as she could. "I'll text you that I'm Alexa, probably," she said. "That's my other name." It brought a smile to her lips that her new recruit was wanting to sit down and talk about schedules and other professional stuff. She wasn't about to push it, not when she knew how rough recruitment could be on people, but it was cool that she'd found someone who had that kind of determination to be good worker, to be useful. It was kinda a change from picking up roadkill in the middle of the night, but that was okay. Her new recruit contained multitudes or whatever. "You can give me the chart next time we meet up, that would be useful, yeah," she said, "But right now I just want you to focus on yourself, make sure you're okay. Are you good getting home from here or is there somewhere I should drop you off?"

"If you can take me to the corner of Amber and Laughlin, I can manage my way home from there," Aschera said, making it about halfway to effortless but not all the way. This wasn't exactly a date, of course, but god forbid she was going to give her home address to a woman she'd just met, regardless of if that woman had helped awaken her to some sort of dark magical power - and Sylvite seemed like she wasn't that much more than a girl, the way she held herself, or maybe she just wanted to be cutesy. It was too late for that kind of speculation, and Aschera was too tired. There would be time to experiment with this later; to decipher what it meant, to skin it and turn it round on a spit. But not now. Not in front of anyone who could fully perceive a vulnerability.

Amber and Laughlin, yeah, she thought that she could visualize that. Even if she ended up a few blocks over, it had to be better than making some tired new recruit have to walk all the way across the city. With a final wave at Axinite, she reached out, put her hand on Aschera's shoulder, and the two of them vanished from the middle of the road. They showed up on a sidewalk, on a street corner where Sylvite was glad to find that the sign did say Amber Street. Okay. Good. She'd gotten that right. She wiggled her fingers, and said, "Rest up, okay? I'll see you later." Then she, herself, vanished. Keeping up the air of mystery was half the fun, after all.
