Even more privately, he wondered if he might not be giving Albite enough credit. Yes, his very presence was aggravating. Yes, it took more time than Aquamarine cared to give to parse through some of his rambling. Yes, he seemed a bit useless for all the finer details Aquamarine appreciated. But there was something like loyalty in Albite, too — a rare trait these days, when so many of their own turned to enemy royals for… what? What could a Princess give them other than an immediate target on their back?
Aquamarine paused and eyed Albite silently. He no longer knew what to think of this Senshi, and that annoyed him almost as much as everything else about him.
“What I need are competent agents who exceed their quota and don’t cause me additional trouble,” he said. “You can help by meeting those two very simple criteria. If I need you to hit something…”
Aquamarine waved a careless hand, like the very thought was too much for him at the moment. “I’m sure the occasion will arise at some point. For now, avoid Sessrumnir like I told you. If there’s anyone else making a nuisance of themselves, file a report, unless you can’t be bothered to fill one out legibly, in which case you’re free to tell me and I’ll do it for you, just make sure you have as many details as possible. And—”
He took the envelope from the top of its pile and shoved it back toward Albite. “Don’t bring me this nonsense. The drink, yes, thank you, but if you insist that I ease up on the tedious paperwork, don’t bring me more of it.”
