Sariza shook her head. “It wouldn’t have been offensive even if you had meant it. Learning that I’m a descendant of a man like that is unsettling.” While her birth father had tried valiantly to reshape the family name they had both still come from that man. Apparently, per Hakan’s description, the crystals on her cheeks were from Taryn himself and that was as much a pleasure to live with as it had been to hear.
On instinct Sariza pulled her hand away from his, but…after a moment she returned it and gaze his a squeeze. “I feel the same, Faisal. I only ever thought about leaving when I thought about what it might do to you, but…if you’re willing to fight them for my sake then how can I do any less?” Sariza was trying her best not to cry, but her eyes were watering all the same.
“We could marry tomorrow and I would be happy.” She reached up to brush the tears away from her eyes and show him a vulnerable smile. To hear such sweet things about her when all he’d wanted was a romantic life…It was almost too much to bear. “It would mean we could spend more time together. As long as the threat exists neither one of us will be able to go anywhere without an escort and at least this way we can have moments like this.”

"You can't control that." Replied Faisal quietly. "The family who truly influenced you is the one who raised you and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool." He had felt something similar to that with his own past, the accusations and the judgment from those who hadn't wanted to accept him making him think of this similar yet different situation. They wanted to kill her simply because she shared blood with someone who had been gone for decades now? It was infuriating and if anything Faisal wanted to protect Sariza even more.
His heart stopped for a moment before Sariza agreed to accept him and Faisal found himself breathing once more. "I'm glad to hear that." He admitted quietly before putting down his glass and actually walking around so that he could sit next to Sariza, his actions embolden by the conversation and the time they spent apart. "Maybe we should just enjoy this whole afternoon and evening together. Do you think your father will have my head if I kept you overnight? Probably, right?" Faisal tried to joke as he settled in next to Sariza, a flush decorating his cheeks. "Truly though I am glad that you are willing to spend your life with me. We'll figure this out, Sariza." He promised whole heartedly. Even if they had to spill some blood the man would do it to keep his dear ones safe and that included Sariza now. "We'll protect each other."

He had a very valid point. The one who raised her was the one she looked to for guidance and Hakan – while not biologically related – would always be her father. He’d risked far more than anyone else just to keep her safe. The man made sure she’d been protected every step of her life and not only that but he’d given her the tools to defend herself. He may not have been the most affectionate while doing it but that to her was as good as any coddling.
She scooted over a little to make room for him and found that same demure, innocent side of her heart thrumming. Sariza couldn’t say that she ‘loved’ him at that moment – they were still far too new to this – but…she also couldn’t say she was far from it. He was asking her to stay the night and she couldn’t keep the flush from utterly consuming her darkened flesh. “He would flay you.” She answered with a quiet, embarrassed laugh. “But…if we are to be married…then I don’t see the harm in it.” It would give the two of them the chance to get to know one another more and after such a long time apart wasn’t that for the best?
“Forever and always. I’ll always have your back as I know you’ll have mine.”

"He would indeed but it's a risk I'm willing to take to get to know you better." Replied Faisal with a small smile as Sariza agreed with his idea. The swordsman's own heart fluttered in his chest at her promise. "Sounds like a good plan to me." Faisal's cheeks flushed as he realized this truly was the woman that he hoped to spend the rest of his life with. Perhaps his grandmother's desire for great grandchildren wasn't such a far fetched idea after all. At least if the Brigadier General didn't murder him for stealing his daughter away for the night. Honestly if it was up to Faisal he would try to keep her safe for more than just this one night until their wedding. "If I may...I hope to honor this promise between us as a couple with something more traditional." Faisal's voice was soft, his gaze gentle as he bent his head to capture Sariza's lips for a kiss.

She hadn’t come over with the intention of getting this close to Faisal, and yet, Sariza was the one placing her hand on his thigh to lean into his kiss. The moment his lips touched hers the jitters seemed to melt under a wave of something much more exciting. In that moment it really seemed as though they were a couple. Up until that point their union seemed to only exist for political gain, but now it seemed like the very thing she’d see in the market or what her soldiers would talk about. She’d always assumed he might give her a chaste kiss after the birth of a child or a hug during a holiday, but never anything this close…
All of her worries, at least for the night, seemed so inconsequential compared to him.
