Dear Saint Nicolas, I know it has been a long time since I've written. The last request was rather unreasonable and unobtainable as you can't make wings grow on ones back. But I hope maybe this time it is a more doable request... I wish for a companion. A friend to share time with, confide in, and play with. Someone that won't fly off and leave me behind. In the dead of night, the howling wind whistled past the tightly stitched shut tent of a lone wander. A flame flickered to life as it lit a well worn dull gray candle that wept wax as the seconds ticked by. Incense filled the air as the writer settled into her animal skins. She put the tip of a metal quill to an aged yellow piece of parchment paper. With a shaking hand she began to fill the page with a heartfelt request. Dear Chris Kringle, Winter has been harsh this year on my tribe. I am on a lone mission, as I am attempting to find new hunting grounds for them. She shivered slightly as the cold leaked through the tears and holes of her tent. Settling back down and drawing a fresh pelt skin blanket around herself she continued. It has been many moons since I could admire the beauty that the harshness of winter hides. I am growing tired and somewhat forlorn since I had begun my journey. Just the other day, I saw a playful red fox family in the freshly laid snow, my tired eye admired them for a fleeting moment until the redness of their fur melted back into the snow covered forest. I am writing to you in the hopes that you could give me company on my long journey. I am requesting a gift, a fine steed to aide me in my journey and to warm my heart that grows cold with loneliness that surrounds me in these winter months. I wish you well old friend and regardless if my wish were granted, I pray for your safety, prosperity and good health always my friend.
