Bright eyes flicked up to meet her sister's gaze, her lips pressing into a more serious line. "And for protectin' you!" With all her heart, she wanted to be someone who could keep her loved ones safe. While she wasn't quite at the stage of understanding all that such a quest might entail, it certainly was an important role in the youngling's eyes.
It wasn't long before the serious line gave way to Fiadah's usual bright smile though. She squeezed Nimia's hand and tugged her after their cousins. "I hope the owl's there. Can I pet it? Would papa let us have an owl, too?"

"Uh huh." Replied Ana with a teasing grin towards her cousin. She was so certain that staying indoors with crafts and baking was a thrilling experience. Though she did have to admit that watching her mother work was very interesting at times....so maybe there was a hint of truth in that. Maybe. Ana smiled at her sister before nodding in agreement. Protecting their loved ones was even more fulfilling than adventures! At least that's what her Papa always said though Ana would rather hope there could be at least a little bit of adventure with that. Right?
"Whoooo. Whoooo dares?" Teased Ana as her sibling looked around for the owl. A giggle escape her lips before she looked to Fiadah. "Maybe! We would just have to catch it firsr?" Without hesitation she swung up onto a lower branch and began looking around. "Maybe it's nesting higher up?"

"I don't think so; he'd probably want it to be in the wild, you know?" As cute as an owl friend might be Nimia knew that they were better suited in trees than at their home. "You might be able to have a chiavi, though, but they can get really big." That was sort of the same, right? She was happy enough just trying to get a glimpse of it from the ground and then Ana existed. "What are you doing? Do you want to get pecked?!" Nimia had spent enough time around most animals to know that if you got too close to their territory that you were going to end up hurt and yet there she went!

Zota shook her head. "Probably better to not touch it. I heard they need to be caught young or something to actually be friendly to- Ana!" Zota's body went limp with an exaggerated groan. "You're gonna make it upset climbing up like that." Of course, she also knew her words wouldn't make that much of a difference. She still had to try. "Just don't go sticking your hand into the nest! Falier in town has those trained hawks we can see later if you want something to pet, Fia."

Fiadah sighed with disappointment. Both her sister and her cousin were right. Wild animals tended to prefer staying wild. Enough had come through their papa's stable to know that. Yet, a girl could dream! "I'm gonna have a chiavi one day," she assured firmly. Not only could she pet it, but she could also ride it, too!
Ahhhh, but then Ana cleared the way. With a big grin again, the little girl didn't hesitate to follow along and pulled herself into the lower branches of the tree. "Don't worry, we won't touch it! I just wanna see it!"

"I'd only get pecked if the owl catches me." Replied Ana with a confident grin towards her cousin. She didn't even hesitate as she reached and grabbed another branch so that she could pull herself even higher up. Her lips pursed at Zota's warning and the girl slowly nodded. "I won't touch anything! I just want a peek!" She called back before inching forward again. What was that? The girl tilted her head with curiosity as she peered through some leaves.
"Papa has a kinfa so surely you can get a chiavi!" She called back before pausing as she caught sight of another hollow in the tree. Oh! No wonder the owl had relocated further up from the ground! Ana's lips curled upwards into a smile as she looked down and watched Fiadah approaching. "The owl isn't here but I found a nest! She has eggs!" She wasn't going to touch them but it was so cool to see! Wouldn't that mean there would be little owls soon enough? What if they hatched now? Wouldn't that be amazing to watch?

"A chiavi won't peck you," Nimia reminded sagely. "Especially if papa helps train it." A wild one, like the owl her cousin was pestering, would just try to hurt them. The thought of being that far off the ground was honestly sort of terrifying, but at least Nimia could rest assured that any creature her papa taught would be as safe as it could.
The little waterling craned her head to try and get a better look at Fiadah through the branches. Eggs? "How many are there? Do they look warm enough?"

Zota clasped her hands together. "That's right. I bet you could easily get one of those chiavi. I bet it's easier to raise than a regular owl anyway." Not that she actually knew, but she'd heard more about chiavi pets than owl pets! When the nest was found, she couldn't help taking a few steps closer to the tree out of curiosity. "A nest with eggs!" she gasped out excitedly. "It's a mama owl! How cute."

Fiadah's eyes lit up with hope. "Yeah! Papa will train it good! He can help me train it an' it can be my best friend forever and ever!" A squeal rang out at the reveal of the eggs. "I wanna see, Ana!" she squeaked eagerly, picking up her climbing pace. She pulled up alongside her cousin to peer into the nest. "Five!" she called out, turning to look back at those remaining on the ground. "I see five!"

"Yep! Five!" Ana moved over as she allowed Fiadah to scoot closer. The youngling grinned as she studied the little pale eggs, the flecks on them endearing, but then sudden movement from above caught her attention. "Too bad we can't raise owls to become mighty chiavi!" She teased with a grin before taking a final look at the nest and gently tugging on her cousin's arm. "I think we may have company so it may be best to scoot down." Before she had been brave enough to go and see the owl in its home but now even she recognized how dangerous it could be if the mother found them around her babies.
A hoot seemingly echoed in the trees as Ana found all of her energy suddenly replinished as she darted down towards the ground. "Hurry up Fiadah! I think the eggs will be plenty warm soon enough!" She joked lightly before landing next to Nimia with a small grin despite the potential risks of an angry mother owl. "Maybe there will be little chicks before you return home. That would be cute." But that was surely enough owl sightings today. Ana was ready to continue on before maybe, just maybe considering spending the afternoon baking like her cousin preferred.

Nimia looked at Zota with a smile and mouthed 'five' with a shocked little face. That was so many eggs! Did owls normally lay that many? Or were birds further south able to have more? That was something she would have to ask papa about when they got home.
Of course the splendor of the moment was tainted whenever the mother came back. Nimia was worried enough as it was for her little sister and cousin, but when Ana just dropped next to her she squealed. "Don't do that! You'll break your ankle!" And just as quickly she looked at Fiadah, "Don't you dare!"
Now that the owl was safely tucked into her nest Nimia could hear little warning clicks coming from her hole. Apparently she didn't like having them close, even if it was from a distance! "Maybe we should keep going? She seems mad."

Zota's hands clapped excitedly. "Oh my gosh! That's gonna be a busy mama when all of them hatch." How fun would that be to chase around five fluffy, feathery baby owls? They would have to keep an eye out to help protect so many! The mama would be fine, but surely some extra attention would be helpful.
Of course, she had to keep an eye on her own family as well! "Ana," she groaned with a wince. She wasn't sure if it was confidence or recklessness that drove her sister some days! Fiadah wasn't much better though! "Yes, let's go before we upset the mama too much." There was so much more fun to be had with her family anyway!

Fiadah grinned with excitement when Adana slipped so quickly back down the tree. That looked fun! She released one hand to prepare to slid down as well, but the quick call from her sister had her hugging the tree instead. Gosh, Nimia was no fun sometimes! After sticking her tongue out rebelliously at her sibling, she carefully picked her way back down to the ground. "She's a good mama owl!" she cooed, adding in her opinion to the mix. "I'm an owl, too!" She stuck out her arms and hooted loudly as she headed with the others to their next entertainment.
