[ Lumikani 8 ]

"Why is her opinion so important?" Lumikani replied patiently, "Her words are only true if you let them be. If I said the sky was green, would you throw a punch at me too?"

Lumikani took a breath and considered how best to approach this. Enya was young and emotional, so it wasn't surprising she took everything with anger and frustration.

"You have spent time with Kahikinans, correct? They do not believe in our great mothers, in fact they have their own gods. But does that make the great mothers not exist?" She brushed her fingers on Enya's shoulder softly, "We all have our own opinions, and we have different ones as well. It's how we deal with those differences that define us. You are better than this, Enya."

At the frustrated comment about the other girls not listening, Lumikani moved to stop them and faced Enya fully.

"Do your spirits always listen when you speak with them? Have they listened when you were young? No, you worked to develop your own language with them. You learned how to speak, and how to listen. We must do the same with others. And we must be ok when not all others want to listen."

"Because it just is." Enya groused. Of course if she said the sky was green she wouldn't pay attention to it; that was just stupid. Things like this, though, the teenager tended to take so much more personally than she had as a child. She was growing into her own and that inevitably meant taking what others said to heart. She knew she shouldn't, but that didn't make it any easier to block it out.

"What if I'm not better than this?" She turned to look at up at Lumikani. "I can't just pretend like it doesn't happen and I'm not smart enough to say something back that makes her stop." She'd seen it happen a few times. One of the other elidae had whipped back on Jasiri with a retort so sharp and quick that the girl had been left speechless. If Enya was more like that then maybe she wouldn't be here now.

Still, Lumikani was right. Her spirits never actually talked back to her. She wasn't a mystic, nor was her mother, but they still had a way of communicating with nature. She believed that they listened, in their own way, so when her grandmother stopped her she sighed. Enya took a long, slow inhale and let it go with her frustrations. "I'll try." It wasn't a promise that she would do better because Enya didn't know if she could. She just...wanted things to get better again.

[ Lumikani 9 ]

Lumikani smiled slowly down toward her granddaughter, a small uptick of the side of her lips but a smile none the less.

"You're still young. You've got time to practice being better at this."

Patting her head once more, she turned to look ahead before looking back at Enya, "Let's take the long route?" Enya probably didn't want to go back to lessons or see those girls again, so why bother dealing with it? She'd see them soon enough in the morning, after all.

Lumikani felt that she got a lot of progress with the young girl, at least coming from combative to accepting that maybe she could do better. There was no need to keep torturing her.

"It's been a few weeks...what have I missed?"

The long route? Enya looked in the direction of the village cautiously before turning a skeptical eye to Lumikani. Was she...really allowed to do that? Whose going to tell her no? Point taken. It wasn't as if she were hiding after the fight and if she went back now she'd only be scolded by more of her elders.

"My team got top marks two weeks in a row in the mock battles." Her instructors had started doing 'battles' to test the girls growing skills. Every week they would split them up into four groups, and give them a 'territory' to defend. The 'invaders' would rotate weekly, but working with your allies was always encouraged.

[ Lumikani 10 ]

As they moved around the long way, taking paths most likely familiar to the girl with how curious she was with nature, Lumikani took in the silence and atmosphere of the isle. It was nice being home, this new home she had made for herself. It was...nice. After everything.

She hummed in response to the boasting of the girl, wondering if she should ask if Jasiri was on her team or the other.

"That's good to hear. Are you using weapons?

"We are now." Enya stretched her right arm above her head, grasped the bicep with her left hand and held it for as long as she could before the pull stung too much. "At first we just needed to work together, but now they're letting us use practice weapons." That had sparked some tension among the more vocal of their group. The girls felt if they were old enough to train individually with weighted blades that the exercises should reflect that, but the instructors were firm.

"It's stupid. We can get hurt with the fake ones just the same as the real ones. See-" She stopped long enough to hold her left hip up for view and displayed a bruise older than the rest. "-Keesa whacked me with her spear."

[ Lumikani 11 ]

Lumikani smiled at the fact they were old enough to use practice weapons, and that smile grew at the excitement Enya showed.

"Little wilding." She replied with a shake of her head, "Your instructors are training you to be strong and powerful. You don't become that way in a day, it takes time and practice."

She barely glanced at the bruise, not worried at all with the coloring as it was fading, "You do realize had that been real, you'd most likely have a hole in your hip? Until you girls learn control, practice weapons will help keep you safe."

"You saw Jasiri, didn't you? Her arms are the size of stones-" To demonstrate Enya hand up her hands as if she were holding the largest, biggest rock of them all. "-I'm pretty sure she could pick up a reed and impale someone."

Dropping her hands with a sigh, Enya's gaze fell upon a toppled log and rather than take the easier path she decided to hop atop it. It didn't take long for the teenager to find her balance, but the added work it took just to move was proving a stupid idea with her injuries.

"Can I tell you something? And have you not tell Mama Pyrrha?"

[ Lumikani 12 ]

She figured her lessons were falling on deaf ears, and so Lumikani just smiled and shook her head at her granddaughter's exaggeration. She could only hope the trainers were focused on control, if it were true that Jasiri was that strong. But the elder suspected otherwise, that girl seemed big, sure, but didn't know anything about control.

As they continued to move through the calm woods of their homeland, Lumikani let out a soft hum in response to the question.

"It depends. If you are in danger, I will tell your mother." She respected Pyrrha (and Kanika) too much to hide if their daughter was facing some larger threat, "But I'm happy to keep a secret between us if you need someone to talk to."

"No no, it's nothing like that." If it were that kind of secret she wouldn't bother telling anyone; well, other than Pyanka. She couldn't seem to keep anything secret from her twin.

When she ran out of room on the log, Enya shifted her stance and stepped back onto the soft terrain. "I...want to visit Zinris." She lowered her gaze and exhaled shakily. "Mama Pyrrha would lose it if I told her. When Auntie Pruu came she asked about if mama was ever going to come back and she got this look on her face...I never want to see it again."

Pyrrha hadn't been pleased when Nayyara left, but she'd kept her worries to their home because it wasn't her daughter. She'd said as much after dinner one night, when she thought her girls weren't listening. "But I want to see my aunts and cousins. I've only seen them once and letters just aren't the same."

[ Lumikani 13 ]

Lumikani was silent for a moment, pausing their walk to turn and look at her granddaughter. She too noticed the strain that occurred when her other daughter left to go on a tour of the other islands, under the guise of wanting to educate her daughter. But that meant returning to Zinris, which all of the sisters struggled to face with how they left ages ago.

Just like how Lumikani didn't think she could ever return to Chibale.

"Hmmm" She replied in another long low hum, her eyes thoughtful and she looked at the trees around her.

"It's very mature of you to think of how your decisions might impact others, Enya." she finally replied, before sitting down, "You're growing up to be a strong sister. One I am already proud of."

She smiled again, offering a place for Enya to sit for this type of conversation.

At first she didn't notice her grandmother's shift in attention. Enya had looked at the older Aishan for a moment before choosing to focus on the callouses building on her palms before looking up and almost feeling her heart still under that gaze. For one so small Lumikani's presence was massive and Enya could feel herself shrinking under that aura.

Mature...? A strong sister? But she'd just chastised her about how everything she was doing was wrong and...

Enya felt herself lowering down to sit subconsciously instead of being aware of the act itself. It was almost like her mind was in a daze. "You're proud of me?"

[ Lumikani 14 ]

"Of course I am."

The response was quick, to the point, and with no fluff. It was very Lumikani, and one that anyone would believe as it was simply no-nonsense.

But considering the fact Enya even had to ask, Lumikani felt a little shame that her granddaughter was so uncertain.

"We all make mistakes, Enya. It's what we do after the mistake that matters most. You have a lot to learn, both your place in this sisterhood and your place in this world."

The petite sister leaned back, looking up to the sky, "I made the decision to leave my family ages ago and travel across the sea."

It was that quick, to the point answer that made Enya scootch a little closer to her grandmother. As much as she loved her there were times that Enya found herself intimidated by Lumikani and questioning her place in the family. In so many ways it was natural for a teenager, or so Pyrrha had said, but to hear she'd made the older Aishan proud...it just warmed her heart.

"...I know that Zinris wasn't founded for the same reasons that Kiros was so...were you..." There really wasn't a good way to word it, so Enya opted for another approach. "Why did you leave Chibale?"
