Lyndin didn't quite understand the purpose of receiving the stick and requiring to throw it, but at Scylla’s request, he did. Caedus watched the otter with far more interest; he looked like he was tempted to draw his knees up into the chair but he stayed sitting still and observing as he listened. “No, that won’t be necessary,” Lyndin said; he had been unreadable during most of her questions, but Caedus’ brows would knit together. Even now, he looked incredibly wary of her crystal. Naturally, Lyndin took the lead role in answering her questions. “Technically, if the Source Stones fell into the wrong hands, anyone could collect energy with them. But, that being said, my Cadets won’t lose something like that. If they’re in danger, they’re supposed to recall back to the warp pad we have set up. And, even if they did fall into the wrong hands, I doubt it would be so simple to find the companion pieces to siphon the energy into. It’s like having a battery, but if you don’t have anything to plug it into, you can’t use it. I think that was all of your first question?” He took a second to recall her other questions. “Our starseeds are different from yours. I think, you consider corruption as black and white. You need a power source to corrupt, don’t you? I don’t know how else to say it. Admittedly, we have not encountered much Chaos, but…” he gestured to Caedus. “A thousand years in the Rift, and he has no Chaos in him.” Caedus’ eyes had gone to her crystal again; he blinked and seemed drawn from his thoughts when Lyndin spoke. “Oh. Yes,” he answered, but it seemed a bit airy. “As for Archideus. I am certain there was never a Senshi there.” He spoke with absolute confidence. “It does not ‘seem’ dead. It is. Archideus was one of our moons. Cerideus, the other. Neither had any life on them. I watched them collide when I was a boy. Just before we left our world. I can’t give you a better way to confirm it beyond my word. We have old video footage. A few old records. Archideus is ideal for this because the crystal compounds inside of it react very well with our energy. It will easily amplify the blast and give us the power we need. Velenia is a shell of itself. Without a Senshi there to activate it, I fear it will not recover. But I am hoping there is another answer we can find here.” Another pause, because she had many questions and he was doing his best to go over all of them. “I don’t think this plan can backfire in that way. I’m not sure how else to explain it, but the mechanics of it all would not allow anyone to grow stronger. But-- if something were to go wrong, I think we could comfortably say we would help our allies on Earth. Velencya does not have the resources to support everyone,” he warned, “But we would take all that we could, if our allies were in danger. With help, we could build.” Caedus let Lyndin answer but he nodded at this; he didn’t have to speak himself to remind Scylla how fond he was of this world or the people on it. “Building is what we are best at,” Lyndin continued. “And researching, and surviving. I am not here to kill anyone if it can be avoided. Life is precious. I would not take a life worth sparing. My people know this, too. I believe there are many innocents trapped in places they don’t want to be. I don’t want to kill them. I want to save this world,” he promised, and his conviction seemed unshakable. “I want to save mine. I think this world would be better united under one banner, but I understand that there are many different views and positions. I am only here to help. I have been advised not to share technology, because members of your group don’t think they can be trusted with it, so I am at a bit of a loss to know who to trust. But it doesn't change the fact that this world deserves to live, and thrive. My place is not here, but I hope that my experience and advice can be put to use, at least. I don’t know what to do. But I hope to learn more and find out.” Caedus was chewing on his cheek now, quiet but contemplative. He hadn’t looked up in a bit and his brows were knit as he thought deeply over all of these questions. He must have agreed with Lyndin’s answers; sometimes he nodded, and sometimes he just lost himself in the thoughts. “Earth’s existing protection,” Lyndin began, “Is hard to put a finger on. The Surrounding is the most obvious, but the weak points are severe. It’s deteriorated significantly since the last time we were here. But I think you know this, Caedus mentioned concern to me before we left. It’s your first line of defense--especially if you don’t want someone snooping around on the other worlds, either. I understand you have Knights from other planets living here. If harm came to those worlds, it would pass on to them. The Surrounding protects all of you, together. If I were you, I would start there. If there is a barrier around these worlds, an outside force might decide it’s more trouble than it’s worth to try and break through. But, Earth itself is humming with energy. I don’t know that the Surrounding will be enough if something decides it wants in. I’m sorry, you’ve asked a lot. I might have missed something.”

Her pile of questions got a pile of answers, and Scylla listened carefully, giving Lyndin her full attention. The otter happily chased the stick, and brought it back to Caedus, this time. Having the source stones compared to a battery was a... relief, she supposed. She did have some concerns about WHAT IF, but Lyndin seemed very certain, and it would serve no purpose to beat a dead horse. "You say your starseeds are different from ours?" she queried. "Isn't a starseed what gives us... life? I suppose? So are you saying you're not alive in the same sense we are, or is it because we're human and have shorter lifespans? Like a power source to corrupt. Yours are more resilient, so it would take longer to infuse with chaos? Or simply... doesn't react with that energy the same way?" her brow furrowed, trying to understand what he meant. A starseed could be corrupted, but if they were a different... battery... ? Caedus' attention to her Crystal did not go unnoticed, nor did his airy reply to her questioning. It was like he was only partly there. It felt very strange. The names Archideus and Cerideus were filed away, and Scylla nodded. "I would like to see the composition reports you said you would work on, if only out of curiosity. I haven't heard of a senshi by either of those names, though I am sure there are others better-networked than I, so I have no reason to doubt your word." I don’t think this plan can backfire in that way. It was both reassuring- and not. "Could we perhaps test it? Before we go too far down this path, try and test a sample of your idea against a youma? They hunt, hurting humans, and would not be hard to find. If the energy feeds it, senshi can be on hand to dust it before it can reveal your presence; if it is cut off from Metallia or destroyed, then perhaps that could be used to persuade other senshi to support your effort." With a sigh, Scylla shook her head. "No, you've done well enough. I thank you for your answers, Lyndin. Yes, we have knights from many worlds living here, as well as Royal senshi of some of them, as you know. I would start with the Surrounding, but we've... got a problem there, in that many of the senshi for the Surrounding have vanished. We have a handful of knights, but I haven't seen one of the Zodiac senshi in far too long, though I know at least one is doing well. And a few others are dead. So to start with the Surrounding, and try and strengthen it, I believe we would need to know more on how it was created. I doubt repair would be so easy as for some of the existing senshi to try and just... shove our own homeworlds in the cracks. As if that were even possible." Leaning forward, the dark-haired woman continued. "More than, if the other planets are dead and Earth alone has senshi... we already know we're in dire straits, here. I'm not sure energy should be spent- and no pun intended- chasing repair of the Surroundings when we are losing what little stronghold we have. But I don't know of the threats that lay beyond the Surrounding. What I do know is that as things lay, if Metallia gets more allies- another General Sovereign, manages to up her recruitment, sticks a wedge in the wrong crack in Order's armor... we're <******** her bracelet at Caedus, who kept... staring at it... Scylla asked "Are you okay? You keep staring at this and drifting off. What's wrong?" But there was yet one more important question to be had. "And what will you do if you find our your senshi has been corrupted by Metallia's influence?" it was a hard question, but it was a thought he had to have. "There are corrupted senshi on her side that don't know who they are; Senshi have gone through the Mirror and lost who they were. Worse, if your species is so long-lived, and they've been somehow-" she glanced at Caedus, who seemed to be staring off into thin air. "If your senshi is on Metallia's side in this war, what will your people do?"

Caedus was drawn from his distraction when Scylla spoke directly to him. “I am sorry. I am trying to keep up. You have a lot of concerns. I did not consider many of them. I am glad Commodore Lyndin is here to help. I find I still have many questions of my own.” He picked up the stick the otter had brought him, and though he didn’t quite seem to understand, he threw the stick as he watched the creature. “I was thinking about crystals, and energy. And Chaos. And Metallia. My mind was lost in the Rift.” Lyndin glanced at him and understood, to a degree. It wasn’t as if he and Caedus spoke at any great length about what he had experienced while he was imprisoned, but it was a prison Caedus still sometimes found himself lost in, when left to his own devices. “It is a heavy conversation,” Lyndin reassured him. “If you need a break, you can go rest inside.” “No, I am fine,” Caedus assured; he shook his head and seemed to try and focus a bit more. “I am here. I am sorry.” For a few seconds, Lyndin watched him, and then he nodded and returned his attention to Scylla. “You had many questions, ah. Let me try to answer them all. You are a Senshi,” he explained to Scylla. “I am not. I cannot be ‘corrupted’. Our starseeds are our ‘life’. Our ‘self’. It would take a phenomenal amount of any power to influence our starseeds. They are stronger than yours, I should think. We are alive. We breathe, we feel, we bleed. But Queen Beryl did not ‘corrupt’ any of us. Caedus spent all that time in the Rift and there is nothing to show for it that I can tell. I take it that none of you were able to find Chaos in him, or you would not trust him?” “I do not have Chaos in me,” Caedus confirmed. “I do not think, at least.” He looked at Scylla for confirmation when he could not tell, himself. Lyndin continued while he did so; he pressed a few buttons on the wristband he wore and the screen appeared again. This time, back to the comet; the reports were strange--translated, but still so different from anything on Earth. “I tried to simplify it. You can see the composition of the crystal at its core, that’s consistent with our own. Because we use the same type of crystals in much of our technology, I know it will be compatible.” There were a few general notes--the observed temperature was well below freezing, and the comet itself gave no indication that it ever had, or ever would, support life. “You can take a picture of this if it would help you,” he said, and made the screen as large as he could. “Or I can send you the information digitally if you tell me where to send it. You won’t find a Senshi by either of those names, Archideus and Cerideus were only satellites to our world. They never supported Earth, and I don’t see how they could have started after the collision. If ever they would have been able to support a Senshi, I doubt the universe has plans for such now. But, that being said, I’m not quite sure how we could test our machine against a youma. I would have to completely reprogram it and use a vast majority of our collected energy just to turn it on. I’m afraid that doing so would use far more resources than we have available. Especially given the reluctance to have us here, collecting excess energy. I am sorry, Scylla. But I do not think I have time to do that. This machine was not meant to work on a small scale.”

Scylla reached out her hand at Caedus' apology, the crystal-set bracelet bound to her wrist with golden tentacles. "He's right, though, Caedus. You've worked hard. I promise not to eat your friend if you need to go rest, I'll be on my very best behavior." her gentle smile hopefully assured them both she was teasing about the chances of alien-eating. "I was just concerned you were still about the Lilac Crystal or something- your stare seemed very... intense." Her attention shifted to Lyndin. "Though you never said if you could do anything with it. I don't know that it's very powerful, but it's magic. It has energy that can be harnessed in moderation, yes?" The fact that he thought their starseeds were stronger and different than human starseeds was... interesting, and Scylla couldn't stop her brow from furrowing. Chaos had been what had crept over and killed their worlds in the past, had it not been? And they had not all been human in the past- she could see that every time she went to Scylla. So was it something to do with their species, perhaps? Or was there really a difference in their starseeds? It felt strange to think there could be a species resistant to Chaos, and yet the senshi were getting reborn here, on Earth. That made little sense to her. "No Chaos I can sense," she agreed, "I am just finding it difficult to wrap my mind around why the senshi would be reborn on Earth instead of among your people, if you're resistant to Chaos. I would think the Cauldron would want to ensure the senshi starseeds are protected as best as possible. Instead here we are, senshi having their powers warped and mangled, being violated and twisted to Metallia's service or WORSE... when there is another option." He still had not answered her question. But he was moving to pull up the schematics on his technology, and she let it sit, for now. She leaned in to view the schematics that Lyndin pulled up, trying to make sense of it all. But she was no scientist, so she could only trust what was laid out before her; she couldn't see anything glaringly wrong. "Can you send it to my senshi phone?" she asked, and pulled out the device. "I'm not sure if the technology is compatible. But I can share it with people that way as well; hopefully that would be once less question you'll have to answer on repeat." With a sigh, Scylla rubbed her temple. "It's unfortunate we can't test it. Visible proof would go a long way in gaining trust. We can see how powerful your technology is, but last time we invaded the rift... Bad things happened. Those who remember could be hesitant to do it again. Some of us will do anything to rid ourselves of Chaos. We have royals, but they do not lead all of us, and we have all worked hard to guard what we have. The idea of something going wrong and it being lost is... concerning." She shifted her weight in her chair again, and tried to collect her thoughts. Organize the scattered pieces. "You still haven't said what the plan is if your Sailor Velenia is in the service of Chaos. Whether through being reborn as one of us and corrupted, or something worse. If your senshi is part of the Negaverse and this plan fails, what should we be prepared for?"

Lyndin laughed softly, quiet and with only slight humor. “You speak as if I am not in the middle of answering all of your questions. You have many. I will get to them all,” he reassured. He was working on his wristband, pressing buttons, selecting features. Scylla’s phone pinged a few seconds later with the information displayed on the screen. That finished, he dismissed the hologram and returned his attention to her. Caedus had fallen quiet again, guilty more so than tired, now. Lyndin offered him no reproach; he did not speak of the attack on the Negaverse or criticize anything beyond that. “Let me know if that’s gone through,” he said, but moved to her other questions. “I don’t know what your crystal is. We’d have to run tests on it to see. It’s certainly possible that it has energy that could be harnessed in moderation. I am sorry I cannot give you a physical sample. Nor can I answer for the Cauldron or Earth. I’m sure you can understand why the topic is of such interest to me. Velencya has limited resources. We cannot afford to risk overpopulation. We are a synthetic world. If our world has no life in it, maybe Cosmos does not see us as a viable world.” He leaned back in his chair just slightly, briefly checking on Caedus before he returned his attention to Scylla. “I’m afraid I don’t know what you mean by ‘something worse’ than being Corrupted. But, I do not think this plan will fail. I don’t know what you would have to prepare for on our account. My people will persist, whether we have a Senshi or not. We are here to help Earth, and to learn if there is any other way to restore our world.”

Scylla couldn't stop the flush that lit her cheeks at Lyndin's laughter, shame and embarrassment at her own haste at war with impatience and dismay at her own inability to see the future. They would be going into this with a prayer and- what? A prayer and aliens? Perhaps Caedus' people had been working on this for three years, but to show up here with only a matter of weeks until- It felt hasty, and too-sudden, and while it may have been thought out by the Velencians... Scylla was still afraid. And oh, how she hated considering it such. The thought of being afraid galled her, but she was. Afraid for them, afraid to make the Negaverse stronger, afraid of what would come after, afraid of who would be lost even if they won. Her phone dinged, and she moved to ensure it had been received. "I did," she said with some surprise, "Maybe I didn't need to get your people those phones after all. I feel a bit silly now." she felt more than silly, and it had nothing to do with the phones. Her voice was soft, slightly choked, and the senshi of the Kraken was beginning to pull in on herself. "You're not the only one to not know what it is," she said, and the fake smile she gave was bright, "I pulled out out of a dragon, and it's served me pretty well." She got stabbed for it, actually. The same night she'd gotten it she'd died twice in surgery. It was something, she knew, but maybe she put more importance on it than she should because of what it reminded her of. "Worse than being Corrupted is any number of things, I suppose. Unless one of your people saw your senshi pass, where are they now? Could they be a prisoner? If they did die, and they were reborn, were they Awakened? If they were Awakened, are they among the Dark Mirror? Chaos? Had they been killed again, their starseeds eaten, like so many of our people? Were they turned into a youma? Are they so far gone into corruption that they barely look human anymore? They have those, who have.... I don't know. Been corrupted so long they look like broken dolls, not people." The inhale of breath she made was sharp, quick. "Either way, I'm sharing my energy, and I'll support you all any way I can. Caedus asked, he brought you all to help us, and whatever my concerns, I would not tell him no or leave him alone in this. He's my friend. And if something goes wrong, I'll be ready to fight." Her willingness and clear conviction on that didn't make her smile any less brittle, or the flash of emotion before her mask neatly covered it up any less sad.

Caedus’ eyes were on her, and for as distracted as he had seemed before, he saw. There was a quiet suspicion in his expression, compassion and worry. “You are a good friend,” he said to her, both gently and reassuringly. He did not seem to understand when the change had taken place in her, or what had happened to cause it, but he saw it in her and he didn’t want to give her any chance to worry. “I am feeling restless.” He looked at Lyndin, who was already raising a brow at him, and then backed to Scylla. “I have not yet been able to catch up with you. Will you walk with me for a moment? If you are done speaking with Commodore Lyndin.” Lyndin seemed to understand that Caedus was, in some part, asking for permission to have a moment with Scylla. He nodded understandably and pushed himself up from the chair. “I have things I can tend to inside. If you have any more questions, of course I’ll be here. Whenever you need. I’m very grateful for the hospitality you’ve shown us, Scylla. I look forward to working together. I hope we can reach our goals together.”

She hadn't meant for him to see. Neither of them. She was supposed to be better than that, wasn't she? Calm. Composed. Unafraid. She'd told Cybele that Scylla gave her comfort and courage, told Almadel she wanted to be a beacon, wanted to come across as competent, so that maybe she could build a team of people to work with, and... weakness wasn't something she could include in that. Not on top of the weakness that came from her human life. Hope. Her siblings. The company. Her friends. Yet as distanced as she had thought Caedus for the majority of the conversation, he seemed to realize when her concerns set in, and stepped in to reassure her. Maybe that was something that came with being a king? Or maybe Caedus was the one who was a good friend. "Of course." she said easily, letting the conversation come to its end, especially as Lyndin rose from his chair and she did as well. "I think we all have things to think about from the conversation." Her more than the aliens, perhaps, because she needed to help them convince the senshi to give this a shot- or find reasons for the aliens to slow their plan and think it through. "Feel free to contact me at any time using one of the phones I gave you, or my senshi phone. Anything your people need to help settle in here, please let me know Lyndin. Whatever it is, I'll do my best to assist." She gestured to the chairs. "You can keep these too of course. A small comfort for your human guests, especially if they have come to donate energy." As Lyndin went about his business, Scylla moved over to Caedus, leaning in slightly. "A walk sounds nice. I'll let you pick the direction."

Commdore Lyndin had smiled and thanked her appreciatively as she took her leave, and Caedus was quick to hook his arms with Scylla, though he did seem to fall into a bit of a stoop to be a little closer to her. He started walking straight ahead; there was no path necessarily in mind, but he stuck close to the barrier and just walked. When they were a good few steps away, he glanced at her with just the slightest tilt of his head. “Are you all right, Scylla?” he asked, in a quiet, gentle tone; his voice was still a little gravelly, a little metallic, sometimes, but it didn’t seem to distract from the sincerity and worry.

It was strange, how comfortable it felt to slip into a walk at her friend's side, even though he had to lean to make up the large space between her head and his ear. He began to walk and she slipped into step with him, following him along the edge of the barrier, occasionally reaching out to poke it with a finger. "Your friend does seem nice." she said after a moment, not answering his question at first. Because she wasn't sure. So she took a moment to gather her thoughts, pulling her focus back in towards the tall- short?- alien at her side. "I'm feeling very human." it came out with a faint smile. "This is sudden, and not completely what I had expected. I'm afraid, and I hate that." she tilted her head up. Sniffed. "And your Lyndin makes me feel very young. I'm not sure how I feel about that bit."

Caedus nodded when she suggested Lyndin was nice, because he seemed to think so. But then, her smile seemed distant, and he was back to worrying. “I am sorry. If it is worth anything, I think being human is a very special thing. And I do not think there is anything wrong with being young. I would like a few years of my youth back, I think. You have a different perspective than we do. I think that is advantageous.” He watched her carefully, patiently. “It is sudden though, I know. I am sorry for that, too. May I ask what you did expect?” he questioned, with only curiosity. There was no room for criticism in his tone or his question; he only seemed to want to understand.

Scylla stopped walking, turning and reaching out one small hand to her blue friend, giving the alien a small smile. Waggled her fingers at him, silently encouraging him to walk with her while holding hands. "You have nothing to be sorry for, my dear," she said dryly, tiredly, "I think perhaps I'm just tired. Or maybe I just.... needed to have a moment of weakness with someone I can trust to see me that way." Her doggish-otter-badger waddled past them busily on its weirdly over-long legs. There was a squirrel in its mouth, squeaking. "I'd begun to try and think of myself as so experienced. So prepared. I began to flatter myself that I could... feel like I made a difference, somehow. Maybe I could give someone else that courage I don't feel in myself. I told Almadel when he asked that I didn't want more power, didn't want something that could... destroy a planet, or knock off whatever a Chaos Seed is, because the idea of it frightens me. Instead I said I just wanted to be... I want to make others feel hope." Her shrug was short, self-deprecating. "I can't do that feeling like a coward and feeling like this is the very power I said I didn't want. Knowing I'm enabling it somehow, being afraid of the fallout when it is used... It makes me feel small, not brave. How do you give courage to others when you're afraid?"

Caedus did not understand her little otter creature, and watched it and its prey with a confused look. Scylla was far more important and his attention almost immediately returned to her. “I have faith in them,” he answered after a few seconds. “...I am not very brave, I do not think. But I am very stubborn, Scylla. I do not think you are a coward for wanting to be prepared. Or for asking questions. You are allowed to be tired, and wary. I do not think you are weak.” He squeezed her hand for emphasis. “You can be experienced and prepared and still find things that are new and frightening. The universe evolves and we evolve with it. But there is no shame in meeting things changes with caution and concern.” He watched her carefully and then said, “You give me hope. You have always given me hope. You have made a difference in my life. I cannot imagine you have not made a difference in the lives of others as well. I am sorry for putting you in this position. I thought you wanted the Negaverse gone,” he admitted. “...I thought...this would help you. And Earth. And all the others.”

Scylla didn't understand the strange little beastie either. Her beloved friend was in good company. I have faith in them, Caedus said, and Scylla considered that. It worked for children, certainly; knowing someone had faith in them could give them faith in themselves, especially if it was their parental figure. She could remember all the times Michael telling her she could do something had made a difference; all the times her faith in Giulia, Hope and Aidan had reinvigorated them- riding their bikes without training wheels, Giulia's ballet woes- and wondered if it still worked for adults too. He squeezed her hand, and she squeezed back, a small tremble there. "I think you're too kind, Caedus. But I'm glad I have brought you hope, because you have done the same for me." Maybe she was a child, still, for his renewed confession of belief in her inspired her, made her all the more determined not to let him down. A moment passed, before she added: "You didn't put me in this position, glynd." the words was firm, tone without space to argue. "You're right. I did want the Negaverse gone. I still do. Yet there was something said yesterday that rings.... too true to things that have happened on Earth. Once we remove Metallia, we leave a void. It's EGO to think her the source of Chaos. We may tear her asunder from her agents, but there's other darkness here on Earth that doesn't come from her. So what we're doing is going in and destabilizing the power structure. Hopefully most everyone survives- but a good number of them will resent us." She hummed. "There will be senshi whose homes have been so wracked by Chaos they could easily be disheartened. Knights sworn to Wonders that could belong to homeworlds and royals we haven't even seen Awakened, or who are dead. Civilians that miss the power and structure that the Negaverse gave them so easily. And these are just the ones that are still fully human." Her tongue clicked. "They will be weakened, but they will be sneakier. Smaller, and more deadly, like the venom in an infant snake. If this works, we need to be ready with a plan for the aftermath apart from celebrating. Not just to capitalize on the infighting, but to try and show them a better way. Welcome them home, don't let them feel the NEED to join in with the Chaos that will begin to fill that vacuum."

Caedus listened and nodded, but it seemed like he was taking a bit of time to mull things over. “If it takes the Chaos from them...they are just people, right? It means that they are making their own decisions. I do not know what the goals of the Negaverse are beyond to consume and devour this world. Metallia...I do not think she cares for the Negaverse. I think she must care about what they can do for her. But she is not human. She does not have their needs. They are blind to the fact that they are her puppets and they are expendable to her.” He was quiet for a few seconds more and then said, “If someone replaces her, maybe they will care. But I think...it is not bad to lose that unnatural Chaos. She tips the scales in a way that is unfair and unnatural.” Caedus sighed heavily, like there was still some great weight on his shoulders. “If her Chaos Seed is destroyed, there will be no more power to tap into. That is what I hope for. And then, it is only a matter of fixing broken people and helping them find the way again. You are good at fixing,” he said, and squeezed her hand once more. “You are good at helping. I want to help, too. I will do whatever I can.”
