(8/10) Padma felt her heart flutter when he leaned closer, pressing his cheek into her palm. It was such a sweet gesture, that the kiss after almost took her off guard. But she melted into it, as she always did, brief though it was, gazing through her lashes at him with a besotted smile.
So he had been worried about something! Padma's brow quirked just a bit, concerned about whatever it was that had torn him up so much, but... he was pulling something from his bag, and when he held it to her she didn't understand what it was for a long moment.
At first she thought it might be a rock, or some sort of parcel he'd gotten from the village but... when she leaned in closer, she realized it was... a box. And when she reached out to open it with trembling fingers, she realized it was a ring. Not just any ring, but the most delicate, beautiful thing she'd ever seen - shaped like a flower.
Padma's breath caught as her gaze snapped up to Uzumati's, pressing a knuckle to her mouth to try and keep it from wobbling. "You want to-- of course, I--" She sniffled, then drew herself up as tall as she could with her petite frame, reaching to catch his face and draw him down for another kiss. "Uzumati, yes. A thousand times yes, I want to marry you!"

Marriage. Another one of those strange earthling words and customs. Still, Uzumati found himself returning Padma's kiss with his heart almost bursting from the love that filled it at the sight of her happiness. Who knew that a ring could make such a difference? The man had so much more to learn! Happiness bubbled up into laughter and he found himself wrapping his arms around Padma, Uzumati nuzzling against her and tumbling them towards the ground so that he could shower her with affectionate kisses.
He could never imagine his life without Padma and he was so delighted that she had accepted his proposal. Marriage meant staying together and that was what he wanted most in the world! Uzumati wished he had the elegant words to express how much love he had for the woman who had changed his world, who had rescued him from becoming a completely feral beast, who had also accepted him for who he was while allowing him to keep living in the forest he so loved but at the same time words were useless to him when he could instead act upon his feelings. And so he would work hard to keep her safe and keep giving her these gifts that could bring such a lovely smile to her face. And part of him knew that even if Padma ever had to leave the forest one day, Uzumati would follow. While he adored the forest and was anxious about a life outside of it there was nothing without his heart, his flower. She was his family and home.
"Thank you..." Uzumati managed in between kisses, his gaze burning with tears. Thank you for being with me.

(9/10) Considering the quiet anxiety she'd felt at his strange behavior, the burst of joy was powerful and intense as the sun. She laughed happily as they tumbled to the ground, her face speckled with soft kisses. "Uzu..." Padma murmured, gently, cupping his cheek the moment she realized he was tearing up. Had she ever seen him cry? Ever ? Even once??
She was still just - holding that little box close to her heart with one hand, caught between them as Uzumati expressed his love - and reminded of it, she nudged at him gently to catch his attention. Hopefully, too, to distract from what clearly was an overwhelming swell of emotions for the quiet man. "Help me put it on?" She asked sweetly, opening the box for him, her hand extended hopefully.

Uzumati's cheeks flushed and he scooted back so that he could look at the box. She wanted him to put it on? Uzumati nodded before taking the ring from the box, his fingers being careful with the delicate piece of jewelry. Sitting back on his heels the man smiled at Padma as he took her hand and slowly slid the ring on her finger. Thankfully it was a perfect fit and he found himself letting out a breath of relief as he let go of her hand.
So did this mean they were married now?
Uzumati blinked at the thought before glancing up towards Padma. Now that they were married that meant no more boundaries, right? Uzumati's expression brightened at the realization. If there were more things to do for the earthling ceremony then he would but right now the man just wanted to enjoy the moment. "Beautiful." He stated, his gaze no longer on the ring but on Padma.

There were ceremonies, of course there were... but there didn't HAVE to be, from what Padma understood. Yes, a certain part of her would love to get the family together so she could scream to the world that they were married - that Uzumati wanted to share the rest of his life with her. ... Maybe, in some ways, it was unnecessary because they'd been intending to do that already for literally years now - her family already called him 'her man', after all.
But... it meant more than she could say that Uzumati had gone out of his way to express it in the way she'd been used to, growing up. She sat up so she could watch as he slipped the ring on, marveling once more at just how beautiful and perfect the ring he'd picked was - she felt, considering how hard they both worked, that it should go on someone more noble's finger, perhaps--
Padma flicked her eyes to Uzumati, and was struck with just how happy he looked, watching as he looked at her properly and spoke. Instantly, her cheeks heated and she pressed her newly ringed hand to her face, stomach fluttering with butterflies, because even years later, after kissing and sleeping in the same bed and being a couple in every part of their lives, he still swept her away with his sweetness, and just how he looked at her.
Her hand flew to his, twining their fingers together, not flinching or minding that his hands were rough from work and rough living,using that grip to pull him closer so she could lean their foreheads together. "I love you - so much." She whispered, squeezing his hand.
