Why was it that having Ai smack her hand away hurt worse than a blade at her throat? It caused Lucijah's breath to hitch, her eyes searching Ai's face. Even now, a sniveling part of her wanted to apologize and ask her to let her stay, but she shoved it down. Another part of her wanted to fight, to at least keep this woman alive so she could live with her daughter.
But... if she did, there was no way to guarantee that Ai wouldn't chase them forever, and kill them both when Lucijah wasn't there to protect them. The only way to keep them safe, for good, was to put Ai down. And... and Lucijah wouldn't do that. She should, if keeping this little family together was that important to her... but she couldn't. If that made her weak, and earned the disdain of Ai herself, then so be it.
Really, the last thing she expected was for Ai to actually let her go. But... she did. Lucijah reeled back a step, stunned, her heart giving another painful tug at the finality of the threat. She wanted to reach for her again, just once, just to have that.
But no. She stepped back, offering a soft, weak smile. "Thank you. ... And... don't die." Because, domestic though this woman looked, she was still an Alkidike - surely there was still some drive to fight there.
She turned and approached the two, feeling sick to her stomach at the child's terror. "Is there anyone else you want me to bring her to? Back to Andile?" If not, she'd have to watch the child herself. You didn't put down your life for a child, and just pawn them off at the first opportunity, not unless the mother desired something else.

The child in Iona's arms flinched away from Lucijah and instinctively tried to hide behind her mother. Despite the deep hue of the girls flesh, alkidike markings just like Ai's graced her skin, but it was wide, fearful crimson eyes that looked up at the shifter.
"H-h-her father travels for work..." She looked around Lucijah, a hesitancy in her voice that Ai recognized. She likely knew that if she gave away the location that Ai wouldn't hesitate to go after him next. "She'll know where to go, won't you sweetheart?"
If the girl was comprehending any of this she didn't show it, and it wasn't until Iona gave her a little nudge that she nodded.
Everytime Iona tried to lift the girl away from her, as if she was scared Ai would change her mind, the child only clung that much harder. At one point she even screamed, and started to bawl. It might have been a tragic scene if the child weren't a hybrid. The sadness Ai felt for her was over the unfortunate circumstances of her birth and little more. Her mother had been selfish to ask Aisha so it was only natural that her unfortunate birth would be surrounded by heartache.
"Just knock it out already and leave. If you want to spare it any grief of seeing this just take away the ability."

The entire situation was... terrible. Even as Lucijah knelt infront of the girl, talking with Iona, her gut squirmed and something inside her screamed that she could stop this. She could fight Ai off, give the woman time to escape. But... she found she didn't want to.
Her heart ached to see misery like this, and yet... she could only agree with what Ai said. She'd been wronged by this woman, horribly, and though it had happened during war and Iona likely had her reasons, it had still happened.
It was tempting to avoid Iona's stare. She looked similar to Ai, in so many ways, and she feared the judgement or hatred she would see, because this woman would KNOW that Lucijah could have saved her, and chose not to. But because of that, Lucijah forced herself to look, to meet her gaze, nodding at the vague instructions.
Ai's patience was clearly nearing its end, so despite the girl's screams Lucijah heaved her up into her muscled arms. She took one last, brief but painful look at Ai, but was forced to tear her gaze away to watch her step as she carried her new charge from the scene, gripping one arm firmly around her small middle, while the other rose to cover her eyes, unsure how long Ai would wait before descending on her prey.

Scarlett Arbuckle 10/10 -One more from you and it's Fin c: "Her name!" Iona shot from her crouched position and had started to move to follow Lucijah, but Ai was blocking her patch. Her hand shot out to grab her sister's thinner bicep, pinning the other alkidike in place. "Her name is Aichiyo!" The more she spoke the more audible the break in her voice became until the woman was outright sobbing just like her daughter. She resisted Ai's hold, but it was obvious to everyone involved that she'd given up the warrior lifestyle years ago.
Ai had the upper hand and she knew it.
The name...Ai's first response was anger. She swept the other alkidike's legs out from underneath her and slammed the woman to the ground, watching with a rush of adrenaline as her head bounced on the hard terrain. She struggled, cried out from the pain, but there was something more there....
Anger was something Ai was used to. It was comforting in it's routine and delving deep into the emotions she'd brought up today just made her confused. Everything surrounding her sister, that hybrid and Lucijah...she just....
She just needed to focus on the task at hand.

As if it wasn't horrible enough that the girl was losing her mother... she'd been named after Ai. Lucijah breathed out a soft curse, tempted to look over her shoulder to see Ai's face. No doubt, she was furious - the resulting sound of a body hitting the ground, and a cry of pain made that more than clear.
She could offer no reassurance to the screaming girl in her arms - only her silent relief that there was a father that could take her in, and that she'd been spared in the first place.
Lucijah walked away from that once idyllic little hamlet - she walked and walked until the muscles in her legs screamed, and the girl in her arms grew still, just crying silently.
