I deserved that... Those quip comments, little pointed jabs.

Wasn't like she was making this easy on him, didn't keep her from narrowing her eyes at him in obvious annoyance either. Just once, she'd let him take back the indepencence comment. Normally once things are said it's a done deal; voice given to an errant thought was like putting your head on a chopping block and that guillotine blade was unforgiving. Sure you can put a bandaid with half-hearted apologies on it but there'd always be a scar as a reminder.

May as well get those nicks and cuts out of the way now so she won't be surprised by them later.

Reed turned, and for a moment she considered his other question before quietly replying "Chivalrous." as he descended the staircase. About half way down, Sonia fell in step behind him.

"Unless you have a spare key on hand, it can probably wait until next time," she ran her fingers through her hair. Sleep would not come easy tonight if she didn't calm the hell down. Then again was it even worth trying?

In the last four hours Sonia's life had been completely upended... AGAIN. And for all the ways she thought an encounter like this could go, being begrudgingly invited-no that wasn't quite right... shunted into was a bit more accurate...displaced into a space she did not belong. The semantics of it was giving her a headache- the point being this possible outcome wasn't even on the list.

Still, as he said, there weren't any other choices.

The hourglass had been turned and time was not on her side. There was a lot to consider, things to do, arrangements that had to be made. The anxiety of it all made her stomach knot, then unknot and re-knot itself again and again.

Sonia looked down at her phone, swiped a finger across the screen to look at the apps, and wouldn't ya know it... damn uber one was there beneath the stupid crack. She frowned, pulled out the stylus, then tried poking at it with something, not her finger. It worked - thankfully... but entering her home information was turning out to be more troublesome than it was worth.

Wondered if perhaps he could just teleport her back...

"No, it's fine. I think we could both do with some alone time to just process everything." Eventually, she was able to hit submit and the next screen showed that a driver was only a couple of minutes out. "Someone should be here in about four minutes."

Exhaustion gnawed at her heels.

At least it was nice enough out; rain would have made the wait just that much more miserable. Although, she suspected that he would have just let her wait inside if that were the case.

Soon enough a black sedan pulled up to the curb, license plate obscured by the angle. The window rolled down and from inside the vehicle she heard the male driver ask for her by name "Are you, Sonia?".

"Yeah," She took a few steps down the driveway, paused, then turned one last time. "Thank you for showing me inside," another pregnant pause. "I'll text you once I've had a chance to speak with them." She gave no time frame with which he could expect a message, only that it would be sometime within the next two weeks assuming they stuck with the suggestion of him coming over for dinner.

Turning, walking down the rest of the driveway, she approached the rear passenger door and got inside.
