Okay. Albite had moved past the point of, like, screaming, mostly, but he still seemed really freaked out about something. That was fair. Sylvite hadn't seen what had happened exactly, but she was pretty sure it had involved Swirls trying to dig his starseed out of his chest.

Then she put the pieces together and realized he was looking for the youma. "No, it's okay, she's not gonna jump out at you," she said, even as he came over to her. Other agents might have been big on personal space, but Sylvite didn't resist or anything when he picked her up. She was very, very used to it, being the tiny one on the cheer team for years. Instead, she shook her skirts out for him for a good five seconds, making it super clear that there was nothing hiding up in there, definitely no youma the size of small children.

"Do you need a hug, dude? You look like you need a hug. That sounded like a lot." She was right there, anyway, feet dangling, so she leaned forwards and rested her head on her chest and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. If he was the kind of person who wasn't weird about hugs, that would definitely go on the list of stuff she liked about him.

His worry that he'd hurt Swirls was already on that list.

"I guess you could call it poofed but it's not like, dusted? She was here, but I sent her back to her lamp pile in the Rift to cool off. It's a General thing. She's fine." she said, then leaned back just enough to look at him. "She wasn't giving up on that starseed thing, huh? I know you were being careful, but I didn't want anyone to get hurt."

Especially since there was no way to be totally sure that Albite would be the one to end up on top in a fight.

She was sweet - just - sweet like the cotton candy that her dress matched in colors. Saccharine. Albite felt his heart met a little bit for her. The way she hugged him, and apologized. It hadn't even been her fault, he wasn't that spooked!!

Was he? No, nah, it was fine....

"You're - you're really nice aren't you?" wouldn't ever be the kind of fool who would refuse a free hug from anyone, especially not a sweet General who was genuinely looking out for his well being. Returned it in kind and squished her a little bit for it. Increasingly relieved as she went on. "Oh, man, this whole. Listen? This whole year's been a lot - like - I'm still working myself up to the whole, dealing with magical cats thing? It's different in the rift, when it's not someone's..I wouldn't wanna dust your kid? If it was something that was like trying to kill me..but like..she wasn't really, yeah?"

He'd just overreacted. That was all.

"You're a good General Sylvite, anyone ever tell you that? N'like, I say that as a real good judge of character and...and did you say you sent your kid back to a rift lamp pile!? They have that there - like - what a dumpster? No, a thrift store? Sylvie, girl, if there's a thrift store in the rift and you're not telling me, that's holding out, that's rude even, I rescind my earlier comments if you've got knowledge of a thrift store in the rift and I"m not like - openly invited to shop in it..." and Albite was suddenly thinking of a dilapidated ikea, where swirls was just running wild with the other lamps, hiding in shades, pulling strings that turned glowing rocks on and off.

"Oh, yeah, she was definitely trying to kill you," said Sylvite. Maybe not, like, maliciously, but that was what happened when you popped starseeds like candy. People died. She'd thought that had been obvious to Albite, with the screaming and everything, but apparently not.

Which was a shame, really. She really liked this one. He did like hugs, it turned out, and he liked compliments, and he got as excited about stuff as she did. He was just new, apparently, and that meant he was blind about some things, and Sylvite really, really hoped that didn't mean he was gonna end up as youma food because he thought they were all babies.

Sylvite pursed her lips. She stayed still for just a second, enjoying the hug, but then she moved to press her heel into the ground, preparing for a shifting of weight.

"Okay. Some training for you, now," she said. "Just 'cause something's cute and sweet?"

In a flash, her arm went from looping around his shoulder to brushing his chest and then reaching inside. She wrapped her fingers around his starseed, gave a light squeeze, and then pulled it to the surface for a moment, just enough to make his consciousness flicker before she put it back and stepped away.

"Doesn't mean we're not dangerous," she continued with a smile.

"Also, no. You can't go shopping in the Rift. The walls will turn into faces and try to eat you. It's bad." Her tone stayed light, but there was definitely still concern in her eyes.

Spots and a flare of panic - true real panic - hadn't expected the move from her. The way everything went fuzzy and the magic to save himself with stood on the tip of his tongue like a razors edge, because that - oh - the feeling of that he didn't have words for. The way he seized up and stared her down; felt everything flicker for a moment before she'd thankfully let go.

Now? Oh now, she had all his attention. Had it dragged back full force and on her, and what she was saying. Important words; every single syllable of them.

Different when he ******** around with his own soul - but she'd just grazed it and he'd felt like a t.v that'd been smacked on and off through static. "N o t e d - huh...I think, I kind of get Swirls now?" swallowed around the flair of <********>', breathed that down and just, tilted his head to get a different angle of a look on her. Thought she was the good kind of dangerous, best kind maybe. The kind hidden in a stiletto heel like a blade, the kind that women kept in purses; like neat little pink tazers, or little hand pistols that packed a punch.

"You n' her, you're both - like - the cute probably throws people off all the time, doesn't it?" slow grin for that, and he wanted to take her shopping with him. Wanted to go make fun of tired salesmen in outlet malls and bounce on the beds at furniture warehouses, cut open all the pillows and have a feather party. "Shame with all the wall faces, cause, man I want to take a rift lamp home so bad." His orbies would've loved it, so he thought.

Gently set her down as her feet touched the floor. Let her go carefully, for all that she'd shocked the ******** outta him with that sly little move, he couldn't help but admire her for it. A woman in pink with murder on her mind - even if it was just the lesson of it.

"Random question. What's your weapon look like?" and could he touch it, and was it stabby, and the questions for that ran unbidden - cause lieutenants weapons were the stupidest things - all those poor kids with plastic gavels and candy canes. He didn't know any captains personally either?

As for everyone else...

He had absolutely no experience with those sorts of things, fell into the territory of being the weapon, him, his General, his Bossette. All weapons in their own right or some approximation of that, all the magic woven in, how it made them up from their cores, how their bodies were bent to it - the way they knew the words in their mind to call it even if they didn't know the source or the extent of the ability. Especially Fasutite, bless his fiery heart.

Sylvite giggled as she stepped away, and in that moment, she'd gone back from being something dangerous to something that was a hundred percent adorable. She bounced forwards and back on her toes so that her skirts swished and sparkled. She nodded at his question so that her curls bounced just so.

"Yeah, obviously," she said, fluttering her eyelids, and then burst into a louder fit of giggles because she was pretty sure that that had pushed it over the top.

Then she took a deep breath to chill out a little and she rolled her shoulders back. "I was never really one of those serious soldier types that the Negaverse higher-ups always seem to be. Like, I tried some after I first hit Captain, and I can do it, if I really have to, but like," her lips twisted to the side, "It's not me, and it takes a lot out of me to try. So I definitely get what I can out of the cute, fun vibe. It's good for Information. Turns out people tend to talk more when you're not stabbing their faces in right away."

She summoned her knives for him with a grin, always ready to show off, and she flipped one around so that she was holding the blade carefully between two fingers and could offer it out to him, candy-swirled handle first. "Even if things do get stabby, I like to go for being, like, unpredictable. Underestimated." She tapped a silver blade with her gloved fingernails before glancing up to meet Albite's gaze.

"These are nastier than they look, too," she said. "They're magic! Even a little wound from them hurts way more than it should."

The laugh for that - the look of her actively *being* cute, on ******** purpose even. "Oh, well, hell pinkiepie! I guess that makes you some kind of evil genius doesn't it?" it was really all types of clever, he had to applaud her for it; using her obvious strengths to her best of her advantage. Thought it was kind of masterful really, in a way.

He didn't mind that she wasn't, the negaverse as a whole had way to many obvious psychos that tucked it all up under stuffy shirts. Traumatic little things that became sorrid sticks in the mud - steel rod spines that were all a lie for the crumbling foundations surrounding them. If his little trip in the rift had taught him anything? It was that. No one knew what they were doing, management was chaos, and he had never been more glad to have Faustite as a General - obvious threat in motion - no lie in him.

N then there was Sylvite. Peppy pink, gave hugs, touched his ******** soul to teach him the fastest lesson - how hard it would stick with him for making that mistake just because she seemed like a softer breed for all the bows n' bouncing.

Made a nice firm mental note - don't underestimate s**t for ********.

"So freaking cool. You do a good job of it, yanno?" wanted to touch, had to resist that, even if his dumb brain said 'what's the worst that could happen'. Listened for once, to the thing that said 'stop' in the back of his mind.

"The whole 'you being you' thing, sharp n bouncy, yeah? It's smart, hell it's way more fun then - whatever those other poor saps are saddled with. Can't even imagine." waived the idea off, and kind of marveled at the blades. "Man I just - okay I wont touch 'em, but what kind of magic? M'jealous as hell over here!"

"Hey! I'm not evil," she said, fluttering her eyelids like she was all sweet and innocent and it was completely ridiculous for him to suggest something like that. It wasn't. She probably could've been an evil genius if she'd wanted to be, if stuff had went differently and she had ended being a Knight or something.

Instead, she got to use her cuteness to protect the city. It was a win-win, really.

"But yeah, I'm kinda a genius," she said, her grin shifting into something suspiciously close to a smirk. "Thanks for noticing!"

He was smart, too. At least, what he'd been saying about being a good judge of character had to be true. He'd picked up on the way she did things much quicker than some of the others did. Sometimes she had to do, like, two or three missions with someone before they realized that there was anything more to her than sparkles and smiles.

"You get it, I think. You know that we don't have to be boring to be effective. It's something I'm trying to spread around the Negaverse a little bit, 'cause I think moral would be better if we could just have some more fun."

Maybe Albite could help her with that.

She was still holding the knife out towards him. "You can touch it," she said. "The handle. That's okay. Just don't get cut or you'll get hit with the pain magic." She wiggled her fingers as dramatically as she could while still holding the knives. "I dunno how else to describe it, exactly. I guess like rubbing salt in a wound?"

Gingerly, carefully, took the hilt of the blade in his hand, held it like it was some precious thing, gripped it like he wanted to test the weight of it.

Albite ******** gleeful over the whole of events unfurling before him, grin that ate his face unparalleled. He’d always wanted a knife, no a broad sword, no a b*****d of a great sword and that would’ve been amazing!

“Genius for sure, it’s so cool, I’d say like - promote your ideas, but Yanno? Don’t wanna get em shot down too hard.” Shrugged because he got it, it was hard to foist fun at people without getting those kinda of looks. Easier to be a Senshi who didn’t give three ********, who would never be a General the way she was, never have quite the same burden.

Took some space to slash the blade through the air, liked the way it sung with some power behind it. “I always wanted…and maybe I’d trade you? Take a weapon and you could get the butt bows cause they’d look better on you.” Snickered for that and “Not that my Magic’s not badass, cause it is, but like, man a weapon would be nice sometimes.”

Sigh for that as he tested the sweet little blade, was careful, cause the magic in it sounded nasty. “I dunno - do you like it? Being a General n everything?”

Sylvite watched him play with the knife, taking half a step back so he could slash around a little. It was fun watching him get so into it, but she couldn’t help but think that her dagger wasn’t the best match for him. It was a perfect fit for her hand, through magic or something. His swallowed it up. Maybe he would’ve done better with a sword, or one of those big fantasy axes, but Sylvite couldn’t help but think that his magic, whatever it was, was the best fit for him that there was gonna be.

Her constant smile faded, just a little bit, into something more thoughtful. “Y’know, I totally would’ve taken you up on that a couple years ago,” she said. “A lot of the first people I met in the Negaverse were senshi. Like, the girl who showed me the ropes, and my second commanding officer, and a bunch of my friends. I always thought they were the coolest. They had these outfits that really matched their personalities, and real magic.” Her eyes sparkled just thinking about it. She might be talking like she’d only been jealous of senshi back before, but still definitely still admired them. Definitely.

“I had a normal uniform and I could summon lollipops. Not that I didn’t love the lollipops, they were adorable,” she said quickly, and she meant it. Nobody got to diss the lollipops, not even her. “But like, definitely not quite as cool.”

She glanced back to look Albite in the eyes. “Don’t worry, I still think you’re the coolest,” she said, smile peeking back through. “I’m just happier with my own stuff, now. Like the knives.” She gripped the knife she hadn’t given him in both hands, and tilted it just right so that it glinted under the anti-theft lights of the worksite. “They are magic. And the new uniform makes me look like a soldier princess.”

She twirled again, just to make extra sure he knew about the sparkles.

“Plus you don’t have that many bows to give me, and people would get all bent out of shape if I started walking around with no shirt.” Not that she’d care, usually, but it’d make subtly draining in the mall or something way harder.

To hear her speak, the admiration in it, the wonderment. He preened a little, because it was rare to hear it. He’d loved the magic in some ways, certainly. All the rest that came with it though - feeling like his dye was cast on the wrong side. Creature of the cosmos, except there were no clear rules about how to manage that - no standards for how it all worked.

A meal, a traitor, a Senshi. N there she was - a twirl n song n story for lolipops. Someone who could make him laugh simply by being. Had to, couldn’t help it for the imagery of her being anything but stunningly pink and full skirted.

She was meant to be a princess, a trap, knives hidden in skirts. “Holy ******** - you were a loli!? No, no wait - also - hell - you could rock the no shirt no sleeves look though! Works great in combat, real distracting!” Snickered his way through the words as he made to hand her lovely little blade back.

“Seriously though, those bent outta shape ******** can get bent” shook his head and breathed in “You’re too good a soldier princess though. I appreciate it - this - everything? There’s uh - I mean, I don’t give two ********, but not everyone is a fan of Senshi, yanno? Feels like the short end of the stick…*which sucks*, because I chose this.” A gesture for her, for them “not the Senshi end, I’m making the best of it though…” and maybe he’d grow to like it, spend less time longing for something sharp and brutal. Would figure out how to work it all in his favor with time.

“You’re a pretty good General Sylvite…gonna have to take me out more often.” Eyebrow waggle for that, for all he meant it as play.

Sylvite giggled. She wasn't sure where he'd gotten that out of lollipops, but she didn't care.

"I mean I guess you could make the argument that I'm a loli? I know I'm short and I've got the baby face thing going on. Oh, but wait." She snapped her fingers through her gloves before she took the knife back, and gave an over dramatic little sigh. "I'm not secretly a thousand years old."

Maybe it counted that she was just secretly an adult at all, but like, having debt wasn't nearly as cool as being an immortal.

Then the giggling was gone, and Sylvite was actually still in a way that she hadn't been the whole time that they'd been hanging out, even when they'd talked about serious stuff, or when she'd grabbed for his starseed. "Look," she said. "Senshi are amazing. If anyone tries to give you a hard time about that stuff, send them to me."

Albite didn't deserve that. Nobody deserved that, honestly, and prejudice against senshi wasn't gonna do anything to make the Negaverse more cohesive or better. If he was getting comments, she had to wonder for a second if Cybele had, too, and-

But no. She wasn't going there. Things were good, today.

"We can go out whenever you need hyped up about your magic," she said instead, the serious moment fading as she bounced on her toes again. "Oh, and maybe next time we can get ice cream or something! That's always fun."

She felt like she should probably make it up to him somehow for getting chased around by her youma.

"Sure thing sweets, any nerdowells that get up my a**, I'll send to you for a stabbing - ah - read it as a 'stern talking to with steel'." low rumble of a laugh, and he liked her. Rare thing, to enjoy a Generals company, to enjoy someone like her. Petit pink ring of death, and she could've been tenthousand years old and he would've believed it - should've been a Senshi, then she could've laid claim to timelessness and eternity - have been reborn to stab again in the next life.

Pink n' black as death itself. A hot topic caught fire.

"I like the idea of it, changing thigns around? I mean, I'm a duck to water with all that s**t, it just 'rolls offa me', but uh - it's kinda endemic yanno? The head honchos preach the whole 'peace, love, n light' spiel, but there's a lotta people who've been in this a long time who feel otherwise maybe?" a thing to shrug for because he didn't take personal issue with a great deal of things - let alone personal interest - half the reason he spent outside of the castle was that exactly.

Do his own thing - keep to his own interests - let whatever bureaucracy brewed in the dark manage itself. "There's no reason we can't do both, ice cream, fun, magical hype? I do wanna try n hang with swirls again tho - just uh - maybe with a little distance between the whole rift mess n' this?" soft humm, and if he' was being honest? He'd enjoyed the rift immensely, every single bit of it. "She needs to get used to Senshi, and I need to learn to hide better - just - seriously? Played the same game with my boss and it all ended in a blaze of bad for both of us, you'd figure I'd have gotten the memo by now. I think I just like learning things the hard way."

"Hey, I don't stab people just for being rude," she said, shaking her head even as she still was kinda smirking at him. "That's, like, terrible leadership."

It was an interesting thought, but that was the type of General she was determined not to be. It'd be one thing in training, like this, but just in the castle or in a meeting or something? The thought made her stomach get all twisty.

She sobered again as he kept talking, though, the smirk turning quickly into a frown. "Endemic?" she asked. "So it's like, a consistent problem?" He might have been moving on quickly, and saying that it rolled off of his back, and stuff, but Sylvite wasn't so quick to let go. This was serious. After the Rift, it was clear that the Negaverse was dealing with a lot of trust issues, but she hadn't really known where those issues might have stemmed from.

This was one possibility, and she felt dumb for not having thought about it until just now.

"It's important to talk about this kind of stuff," she said. "Little things turn into big things really easy, and even if it's not a big deal to you, it could be a big deal to some of our other senshi." Maybe that was why Chrys had vanished. Maybe that was why Cybele-

"So who is it?" she asked. Training and youma games and even ice cream could wait. It was more important to make sure that Albite felt completely safe and welcome within the organization. She liked him too much. She didn't want him scared away. "Is it Faustite? Is he being good to you?"

It might have been. She was already up to several bones to pick with that guy.

She wasn’t wrong, and he could admire her for that. For wanting to talk, for being gentle and serious, whip smart beneath the pink brocade. But some people? Oh, Albite thought for sure some people could use ‘a little stabbing’, the motivational threat of a stabbing.

Or at least some light duty dusting, sweep out the barracks, clean a toilet or two…

Grunt work to remind people there was a bottom rung to hang from. N then sylvite continued to be godamned *sweet*. Offered up care like he was some helpless lamb himself instead of - and ******** - he would’ve given a lot for her in that moment, the way she gave her support so honestly, checking in like she cared way more than she should’ve.

“Breath Sylv’s, it’s no one in particular - n more just, yanno? Consequences of being a basic - and like - to them - all the white moon types? M’either a traitor or a corrupt right?” And how that word rankled, because maybe for some that was how it’d worked - conscripted in - but not for him. “N’ on this end of things?” A shrug for that where the words could’ve been, soft scoff - because he skirted the edges of it - reaped all the benefits of enjoying being a field agent over a desk jockey.

“Mm, maybe it’s more the gossip that goes around than anything else? Not all the Senshi choose this - if you ever come across some of those older Senshi pre Queen Laurels- or like - the ones who didn’t choose to get in on this the way I did? You can see it in their eyes Sylvite, that - Ah - lacking? Like maybe if we took better care with ‘em on the way in - substituted all the parts that were missing?” hope that it’d erase the deafness and longing - hope that if they had a better pamphlet - or if they only forcibly corrupted the ones who were legitimate threats - or hell sometimes capture was the better route? Albite didn’t know, it was all above his nonexistent pay grade.

Mention of his firebrand - and oh the look he gave her for that, warm knowing smirk, because he wondered what it looked like sometimes - to others - Senshi serving under a youma.

“Not to piss on whatever hellfire image he’s cultivating, but honestly? He’s the absolute best. They assign us people - or like - people choose us, general’s and captains. Auro was good people? But Faustite, I chose him; never been happier for it.” had made his mind up on it after the first few missions, after dealing with the wisps and snatching energy on his behalf.

“You wouldn’t believe the rumors I heard about him, yeah? N’ I’ve always ignored that stuff anyhow, I like to get all my info from experience - first hand. People are different when you put the time in with ‘em, even him - s’long as you don’t mind the whole ‘on fire all the time’ thing.”

It was hard to just breathe. Sylvite wasn't good at it under normal circumstances. It was basically impossible to shut out other thoughts enough to think about how fast her lungs were going, and if she tried to watch those little meditations about it, she ended up clicking away after like five seconds.

She definitely couldn't breathe when he talked about the ones who didn't choose to be there. He wouldn't know, but her eyes flicked to the ground anyway, and the breath she did manage was a hissy sigh that came out through her teeth.

"I worked with someone like that," she said, because there was no getting around talking about it at this point without seeming really passive aggressive. "I had a chance to capture one of the senshi leaders and bring her over, so I took it. It was weird."

Instead of breathing, she tapped her foot against the gravel, faster and faster. "I mean, I didn't think it was that weird at the time? I thought it was cool. She went from trying to kill me to being, like, a pleasure while we went over the training guide and stuff. She always brought in way more energy than she needed to. Starseeds, too. Yeah, you could tell that something was missing, but she didn't seem to mind."

Sylvite blinked three times. "'Till she vanished one day. Back to the White Moon, like that second chance we gave her didn't mean anything. Faustite lost her, actually," she said, then paused, then shook her head.

"I mean. Maybe it wasn't his fault. Maybe I did something subtle to make her feel like she wasn't good enough. Maybe she was just too brainwashed by Order that nothing we told her was gonna stick in the first place. He sent her after a Princess who used to be her bestie, though, so,"

Sylvite shrugged.
