What could he say? His foot was so far down his throat he was standing on it again and about to go for seconds. He should just nod, apologize again, and be on his way.
"Thank you," He said, his voice even where a moment ago it would have been far more heated. "For the warning."
"My painting skills didn't really make anyone happy," He admitted ruefully. "Well my mother maybe - but not the point."
He shook his head and unzipped the bag, pulling out the envelope and holding it out to her with two fingers.
"It's stupid, I know, and probably asking entirely too much given..." He motioned around them with the bag. "Everything involved, but if nothing else, at least take this as a token of my apology and gratitude? My actual, apology and gratitude."
He was prepared for her to throw it back in his face - but... She'd basically splashed him in the face with cold water and it wasn't often that happened.
