Quiana made a face before untying the belt and handing it over to the fishling. “Well if she’s up here then I haven’t seen her.” The Elidae offered as she studied the other girl. “Does she look a lot like you or? This was her first encounter with any other race that wasn’t Aishan honestly and it was definitely different from what she had been expecting. Some of the Sisters had talked about the races that lived beneath the waves but she had been expecting them to look less like this and more like...well honestly she didn’t know. If it wasn’t for the fins and the gills that moved slightly when the other girl talked then she could have imagined this was an earthling instead...something else she hadn’t encountered just yet.

Pounamu fiddled with the beading quietly, her brow furrowed as she untangled the colorful strands from one another. Eventually the girl’s question caught her by surprise and she found herself shaking her head. “Not quite. I’m only half hapuna so my friend is a lot brighter than me with red and white hair.” She offered before glancing towards the stranger. “May...may I ask if you’re an earthling or?” It was hard not being curious considering this was her first encounter with one of the land walkers.

“Even you have hybrids, interesting.” Quiana replied with a grin before watching the girl untangle the mess of beads like some expert artisan. “I’m an Elidae of the Aishan races. We’re honestly better than the earthlings so you’re lucky to have run into my kind first.” She stated with honest confidence even though she had yet to actually meet an earthling. It was just what so many of the others taught.

“An Elidae?” Pounamu found herself repeating with interest. So this was an Aishan? How many land races existed? Honestly it was overwhelming but thankfully the feeling of the beads in her fingers made her more relaxed. It was hard not to panic but she was doing her best and the calm nature of the other girl made her feel more at ease while they spoke. Unfortunately though the tangles were finally unraveled and she found herself handing over the belt with a soft sigh. “I suppose I should be on my way so that I can try to find her.” Pounamu finally admitted as she started climbing out of the water and back onto land. Goodbye my comfort zone.

“Thank you.” Quiana blinked as she took back her belt and tied it around her waist. At least the other girl had been good about fixing the mess she had made. As the fishling started moving Quiana just sat back and watched. She just seemed so pitiful though that she found herself actually moving after her, a rare action indeed for the Elidae. “Wait...do you know where you’re going?

She could do this, truly she could. Pounamu kept repeating that like a mantra before the sudden movement startled her and she froze when the other girl’s fingers touched her arm. “O-oh!” She gasped before twisting and nearly falling again. “Sorry…” She truly was completely flustered, especially now that she found herself in the arms of the stranger once again.

“You really have to stop falling for me like this.” Quiana teased lightly as she slowly let go of the fishling. “We don’t even know each other’s names.” The Elidae was more amused than exasperated now that she had accepted that her day was not going to go as planned. There was just something adorable about the underwater girl that made her seem like some sort of baby animal or something. It truly would be a shame if she were to die on the surface like this.

Pounamu felt like her whole face would melt off because of how intense her flushing had become. The phantom warmth of the Elidae haunted her as she took a few steps away, her gaze averting to the side in embarrassment. “Pou...Pounamu.” She managed as she regained control of her breathing and dared to glance towards the stranger again. “You?

Ah, there it was. Quiana tried to stifle the laughter that threatened to spill from her lips once more at the sight of the obvious shyness. “Quiana.” She replied in turn as she studied Pounamu closely. “So if you’re looking for this friend then how long do you have before you return to the water?” Did they even have a deadline for things like that?

Confusion made Pounamu blink. How much longer did she have? That was actually a good question. The hybrid shook her head again after taking a moment to think about it. “Maybe until the evening? As long as I have some source of water to refresh myself it’s not a problem.” That much she had learned from her Aunt whenever she spoke of other adventurers and how some had ventured onto land for their explorations.

“Okay.” Quiana studied Pounamu a moment longer before nodding. “I obviously don’t know much about your kind so I’ll take your word for it. Thankfully I know where most of the streams and pools are along this island.” If she guided the girl then she could also avoid the actual encampment of Aishans who would not take too kindly to a stranger approaching their area.

“Are you….are you suggesting that you’ll help me?” Pounamu asked with surprise. What a strange turn of events! Not only was she finally talking to a landwalker but she was actually going to take aid from the stranger too? She chewed on the inside of her cheek thoughtfully. Would it truly be okay to accept her aid? What if it was a trap? Then again Quiana had already helped catch her so surely she wouldn’t be wanting to cause trouble now, right? What would Naia do? Naia would probably already be all across the island and accepting aid from anyone since she was so friendly and open. The very thought brought a sigh to the hybrid’s lips. “If you’d like to lead the way to the opposite side of the island I would appreciate it.” She finally managed softly before peeking back towards Quiana.

“Well I’m not suggesting not helping you.” Quipped Quiana with a slight shrug. “Honestly it’ll just make too much trouble if you end up at our encampment. Some of the other Sisters don’t really like strangers walking into our home.” She explained before gesturing for Pounamu to follow her. “The other side of the island towards the south? Those are fairly dangerous waters during stormier weather...at least on the surface.” The northern part of the isle always felt calmer in her opinion while the southern shore seemed to have some sort of chaotic energy to it. Perhaps it was different when swimming far beneath the waves?

“Ah.” Pounamu found herself nodding. Her race was more reclusive at times but never that hostile. She could only imagine what the other Elidae would do if they encountered her. The very thought sent a shiver down her spine and she found herself shaking her head before scurrying along to keep up with the other girl. “Is it? I’ve never really been that far before but I know that the area has a settlement a few miles down. I’m hoping that if I don’t see Naia on the island that maybe she will decide to take a break there for supplies.” Truly why hadn’t she just been brave enough to go with Naia in the first place? Pounamu still felt so terribly awful about the whole situation and just hoped she could catch up to her friend.

“Naia? I see.” Quiana nodded thoughtfully as she reached up to hold a stray branch back from the path so that her companion didn’t get whacked by it. “It would make sense, right? You need supplies just like anyone else….at least I think so?” She paused and blinked, her antenna flicking thoughtfully as she studied the other girl. “Is that rude to wonder what you eat and the like?”
