It was a vase. It was now by her beside apparently decorating her dresser. What was it there for? She still wasn't quite sure. It was green with gold rims that danced with amusement at her curiousity. It definately wasn't ordinary, Aria would tell you, though most wouldn't realize it.

How had it come there? Well Aria would tell a person who asked her the story of how she yet again misstepped into a different place, but this time actually kept up with her location so she didn't get lost. It was a different world, and there were gaurdians. In the process of figuring out the place one of these creators had intrusted the elven Aria with a vase.

What kind of vase, she didn't know. There was an aura about it, a strange, but friendly one. Perhaps it would be something nice, perhaps not. She wouldn't be sure yet, but she hoped it wouldn't cause too much trouble in her humble home. Then again, what didn't?

Sighing Aria turned over and doodled in her diary, not really one to keep a diary and curled up for a rest. Maybe it would be better tomorrow.

Day II
At the house.

Well, its not changed. But I still sense some aura around that vase. I do wonder what it is. It is beginning to amuse me severely. I wonder if its some sort of creature, in an inanimate form? Shane's talked of them a lot. I am usually curious about it.

Oh, yes. Umm, you probably wonder who shane is? Well, Shane is my best friend, basically. We do stuff, but strictly as friends so no getting ideas, Diary. Ha.

Anyways, yeah. I'm bored... so bored right now. And I'm not sure how wise it will be for me to go to sleep with that vase beside me. Last night the Aura was peaceful, but it still bugged me, illuminating itself mystically in the night. Does anyone know how annoying that is?

Well, I suppose some people do. Its like having a child, I swear. Anyways, none of the other inanimate objects I've found in Gaia have been this bad. (Yet... always the Yet in gaia...)

So, the vase is just sort of there, for now. I wonder what it will do. I'll take a moment to prod it for a reaction.

Nope, no reaction from it. So I guess its not going to do anything yet. I have to go out tomorrow though. Gotta do some work. Oh, ever so much fun, I assume. So yes, dear, weird, diary that I'm writing too, though you'll never respond, so its pointless to keep a diary, remind me tomorrow to check on its responses again. Well, yup.

Nightums. Its late... still having a lack of sleep, I do believe. Nightums!

-Love
Aria.

p.s. Why am I signing LOVE in a diary? Am I nuts? Like anyone is going to read this... bah. diaries.

Day III.
Morning and in bed.

Aria woke up from her peaceful slumber. Something was a bit... off. Opening her tired eyes she looked at the vase and fell. Fell out of her covers and onto the floor. A screech of pain soared to her lips but was trapped by the closed opening so made more a "Mmmph!" sound.

"What the...? Its spewing multicolored strands of air, or wind, or something!" she yelled, startled for a moment. Her eyes were adjusting. It was still early morning. Not even a good hour for her to be up, around four a.m. in the morning.

Sitting up she poked the vase. "Okay. Its not going to kill me. I've figured that out, thus far." she mumbled to herself, prodding more ends of the colored stuff that was coming out. It looked more like smoke, but smelled like nothing.

"Kay then... You know. That is just strange. It really is. I think I'll just prod it for some time... yeah... or wrap it in some cloth. Maybe that would be better... Mmmm, yeah." she mumbled, getting it a blanket, surrounding the vase in the silky blue material.

"Now, I'm going to go back to sleep. Yeah. Seriously... nap time... Then I'm hunting down those goddesses or whatever they were and asking some questions..." she stated and curled up in her bed, watching the vase until she finally fell asleep.

Day IV
It seemed normal by this point. Getting startled by silly things. This was Gaia after all. What else could be a more obvious indicator that she was in Gaia then the fact odd things happened?

Having had work the day before, Aria was going to make her search for the goddess/genie people, which she had deemed by their names Minty and Raspy, that they had told her. It was pointless to just sit about boredly and not do anything.

Coming in last night, she had absently forgotten about the glowing vase until she stepped in, seeing an unusual light coming from her room, making the door a obscure figure that one wouldn't dare traverse into. Bah, she had thought to herself, attacking the door with a turn of the knob and ready to hit that vase if it had anything to attack her with, in it.

"Oh..." She mumbled, noticing it was just fine.

So day five would be the day Aria set out to that world, asking Mymmy the way and for him to go excessively slow so she could take into account when they traversed into the other world. How usual for her. It always seemed like this, but that was okay.

Slipping into her room today, however, she picked up her diary and began to write.

Quote:
Dear Diary, though you'll never answer what I write...

Here I am, writing a bunch of weird stuff to you. Does it have a point at all? I have no idea. Well, this little vase I told you about before? Well. It glows. It does. I'm not kidding. I woke up yesterday to the bleeping thing, and it scared me out of my wits.

What did I get myself into? Should I be worried? I'm not sure. I hope not. Well, its late, in fact its eleven. Well I should be off. update tomorrow when I hopefully find those crazy people.
Love, Aria.

Day V. Awake and in the kitchen.

Aria was happily minding her own business, she had brought the vase into the kitchen with her to keep an eye on it. It had felt restless since Aria had woken up. Her back was turned to the vase since she was cooking at the stove. Pancakes, sausage, biscuits and some homemade orange juice.

Then, the aura of the vase faded. Aria would have to figure out why a moment later, but she didn't get a chance.

"Hello!" A voice echoed into her ears. A small voice, a child's voice.

"Oh dear goodness!" Aria exclaimed, surprised, having not turned around to see the source as she jumped. And so did the pancake she was flipping. It soared above Aria's head as she whirled around and landed with a soft squishy sound on Aria's head. This lead to the chaos of Aria running about, getting the steaming hot, party uncooked, pancake off her head while still surprised about the small little girl she had a glimpse off before the pancake rudely fell on her head.

A giggling ensued. "You're funny!" The small pint sized girl on the table spoke, joy ringing out with every word. Her voice was beautiful for a child's and rang out, not shyly but with confidence. It was good to be secure.

"Ack! Now I need a shower, but not before breakfast." spoke Aria, currently ignoring the child for a moment so she could throw the pancake away.

Whirling on the young girl, who stood beside the vase Aria noticed the vase no longer had an aura that was uncanny for inanimate objects, but the girl had taken that aura about herself. It was a strong aura, one that spilled confidence in leaps and bounds, but yet was able to be molded if one was not careful, in the wrong way.

"Now. Hello." Aria spoke, getting down to eye level with the pint size girl."

"Hello! I'm Melody!" Melody spoke, giggling at Aria and poking her gaurdian's nose. "You're my momma!"

Heavens of the Isles spare me! Aria thought, looking at the small child. How did I claim this child? For a few moments, Aria was just there, staring at the small child before her.

"Well, nice to meet you, Melody. I'm Aria." she spoke. "Are you hungry?"

"Oh quite, yes, thank you!" Melody spoke, bouncing on her short little legs.

Aria sighed and turned about. It was time to find those genies, now. She would go with Melody in the afternoon. It was breakfast time, and Aria would get to know the small girl that had appeared on her table.

Day VI
In bed.

"Waaaaaaake up Aria!" A chiming little voice cried out. Melody, who had taken to the nickname Mel-mel, was sitting on Aria's chest, waiting for her gaurdian to wake up. In this process, Mel was also carefully tickling about Aria's sides, seeking a sensitive spot.

Mel was hungry, thus she was going to wake her gaurdian up.

"nu-uh momma, I wanna stay asleep." Aria mumbled, batting at the air above her head, not anywhere near the plague that bothered her sleep, Melody.

"Momma! Wake up! Pwease? Or I'll sing!" she cried out. This was a soft spot. Aria's ears were very sensitive, and Mel, even at her young age could sing pretty well, and loud enough for Aria to cringe sometimes.

That had been found out yesterday, when Aria practiced an Elvish hymn and Mel asked about it. Mel, being so intrigued by the music and the words, asked to be taught. This lead to quite the excitement in the household, scaring Mymmy outdoors; his ears were much more sensitive than Aria's even.

Melody had taken to singing like bread to peanut butter and jelly, sticking to it like glue and impossible to separate one from the other once put together. Mel had sung like a small angel, a pint sized angel. Sometimes though, she fell badly out of tune making the acutely tuned Aria cringe and correct her.

Already Aria had taken to teaching the small girl lessons for as long as Mel's attention was to be captured

Aria was cringing. Anything, but that. Not so early in the morning. No, no way was Aria going to listen to the singing and have her head explode like so many pieces of rice becoming inflated in a small container with water and boiled making the top blow.

"I'm up; I'm up you crazy girl..." Aria mumbled from the safety and confines of her pillows. "Shoo... I'll be out in a moment...." She grumbled shortly thereafter when Melody had tried to get her up again.

Giggling the young girl skipped off to wait on her gaurdian as Aria proceeded to fall out of her bed. Stupid beds, the covers got all tangled around one's feet all the time...

As Melody landed she tripped and hurt her arm, seeing a few ruddy droplets appear she began screaming bloody murder.

Aria, hearing the cries crashed into the doorpost and finally reached Melody with a stinging headache. "What? What's the matter? What did you do, dear?" she asked, leaning down to scoop up the girl in her arms.

Noticing the bloody Aria sighed in relief. It wasn't some crazy thing trying to attack her but merely a cut and blood.

"Its okay, Mel. Calm down. It will heal."

Sniffling Melody clung onto Aria's arm. "It hurts... Why does it hurt?" she asked, giving Aria the most pitiful look and making the elven woman's heart break at the sight.

"It hurts because you fell. When we run into things or we get cuts, or if we fall it hurts. If we get burnt it hurts and being frozen hurts too. Its sort of like a part of life, I guess you could say.

"But I don't like being hurt! Its like a death!" Melody cried, tears falling down her pale cheeks, sopping the strands of green hair hanging by her face.

"Nobody does, sweetie but its a part of life. You have to get used to it. You'll learn to avoid things that typically cause you pain and then there will come a time when you won't feel anything anymore." she said, eluding the bit about real death. How could such a small girl know about death, anyhow?

"But its bad. Why are bad things there? Did I do something wrong?" she asked piteously.

"Look, sweetie," Aria paused to brush the strands of hair out of her adopted daughter's face, "We don't necessarily cause bad things to happen to us; sometimes they just do. But there are bad things in what people do too." She tried to explain, taking Mel's attention off of her bleeding arm which the child was nursing.

"Why? Why would they be mean and bad? What does it do for them?" Mel asked, immediately having her attention turned from the topic to something that seemed more interesting to her. Sure, her arm hurt still but it wasn't as bad, it was numbed now.

Aria sighed. "I can't explain everything just yet. Just try to stay away from those people, okay? Now lets go get breakfast...?" she suggested, trying to steer the topic to something pleasant.

Melody nodded, "Okay! I stay away from bad people and we go eat!" she spoke, giggling at the idea. She was being her normal, for what Aria knew, kid self. Not being too old, just yet, just full of questions like a child around the age of five.

And so it went, both going to eat and Aria learning much more about her new child, having to experiment in what was good to tell her and what was not. The day passed without other events.

Day VII.

Celeria, Aria, Melody, Star and Raspy meet.

Jazzmo13
Aria, equipped with Melody was making her way, following Mymmy, her cat companion, to the place she would be in order to meet a goddess/genie from the world Mel was from.

A small chuckle escaped the woman's lips as she noticed Mel looking around with amazement at everything in the most interesting way. Mel was tilted out over Aria's arm, staring at everything with facination and asking questions such as "What's that?" and "What kind of tree is that?: and many other questions children asked their parents when they are curious.

Finally the arrived at a clearing, a meadow where Mymmy stopped. He was sure the goddess would appear there.

Raspberry-Tea
*Raspy appears in a purpleish puff of smoke* "Hello Aria! Nice to see you Melody!"

Jazzmo13
Melody screeched with happiness. "Hello!" she said, immediately in some peripheral memory knowing the genie woman.

A giggle came from Aria, she was startled and and jumped terribly. "Hi, Raspy. Ummm, I just wanted to ask you... where did Mel come from? She came out of a vase, the one you gave me. I'm terribly confused I'm afraid." Aria spoke with a small blush of embarrassment.

Mymmy mewed happily, but he wanted to be recognized too. He was just as smart as any human in all honesty, in his mind.

Raspberry-Tea
Raspy smiled and explained

"There is nothing to be afraid of. The vase, made by Minty, has a special ability to give life to inhabited objects and me and Scarlet just give them a proper look. they are actually just like every other living being. "

Jazzmo13
"Like how most mothers carry their children in the womb?" Aria asked, still a bit confused by how the genie explained it. "I do not mean to be rude, I'm just confused, as I'm sure you can tell."

She propped Melody on her shoulder and tickled the girls' sides.

Melody began to giggle. "So, what are we going to do? Will I return here?" she asked the genie, with a bright smile.

Mymmy mewed and rubbed against Raspy's legs.

Star Riyoka
I walk into the meadow looking around and spot Jazz and Aria.

Celeria and I walk over and sit down in the semi-tall grass hapilly.

Celeria runs around happily. "Tag me Aria!"

Jazzmo13
(melody you mean)

"I wanna play with her, Momma! Please!" she begged Aria and was set down by said woman to go play. She chased after Celeria with energy.

Her attention was diverted for a moment to look at Melody running about.

Raspberry-Tea
Raspy thinks for a while and then answers "Yes, you could also explain it like that."

Jazzmo13
"Okay, that makes much more sense to me now that I think about it. Its easier to look at it like that. Will she return here when she is an adult or does she have the option to go everywhere she wants?" Aria asked, making sure she wouldn't lose her new child.

Raspberry-Tea
Raspy smiles and answers " Melody and the other second yous can come and go as they wish. though, they must all learn in a school on our planet... "

Jazzmo13
"Oh my. I will have much to plan then. I don't know what to get her and I don't know where the school is, though Mymmy can find that... and he can certainly find anything else I need, its just not getting lost and separated from home that is the big thing." she stated with a small, wary frown as she sighed.

She was running about happily, trying to tag Celeria

Mymmy mewed, he wanted attention...

Star Riyoka
Celeria kept running, dipping and dodging.

"Can't catch me!!",she said lookign back. When she turned around she tripped over a big rock.

She squealed and landed on her face, twitching.

I gasp and get up and run over. 'Ce!! Are you okay?", I ask picking her up.

"I'm okay mommy. Its just a scratch.",she said at her knees bleeding.
"My poor baby. Let me get you a first aid kit."

Jazzmo13
"Oh No! Cel!" she yelled and ran to her new friend, making Aria whirl at the sound, sending her red locks of hair flying about her face. Mel's soft hair fell into her eyes as she went to help. Mel had had a recent experience with getting hurt and bleeding, and was worried that Cel may not have understood like Aria had taught her.

Aria blinked, frowning for a moment before turning back to Raspy. "Melody, be careful!" she told her daughter, a frown on her face still, when she looked back at the emerald haired child.

Mel frowned and tried not to cry. "Cel, you okay?"

Star Riyoka
Celeria continued to stare at the blood.

"It hurts...and it stings...it won't stop.",she cried worriedly.

"Why won't it stop??",she asked looking at Melody.

Jazzmo13
Aria, seeing that Star wasn't doing anything, swept up and picked up Celeria. "Because you have to stop it by applying pressure. Hold still." she said as she picked up Mel as well. She hoped she wouldn't offend Star, though she knew she was busy getting the first aid kit. Aria had recently gone through this scenerio with Melody that morning.

Melody looked at Cel, "Its okay, Its just a scratch. I got one too!" she said, showing hers as Aria pressed her fingers to the scratch to make it stop bleeding on Cel.

Raspberry-Tea

Raspy looks at Aria as she mends Cel

"we should open a first aid class in the school.. or atleast a healing magic one..."

Jazzmo13
Aria smiled, "I could help with that... I am a herbal sort of healer and for those who can do magic, that would come in handy, I'm sure." she said with a small smile as she tended to the young girl that she was currently occupied with.

Raspberry-Tea
"Awesome!" Raspy said and smiled

"would you mind starting a healing lesson in the school area?"

Jazzmo13
"That would be great!" Aria said with a small bit of excitement. She smiled at the goddess. "However, I still live on gaia but I can be here for it each day as I need to be."

Raspberry-Tea

"that is awesome" Raspy cheared and hopped around

Jazzmo13
Aria chuckled, "Okay then. Umm, you might want to give me directions since I don't know this world." She stated with a small nod of the head. A soft smile lighted her lips as she looked at the hopping genie.

Raspberry-Tea

"Well, I aint that involved with the schools, but when you ask one of the people who allready have a school, I'm sure they will answer all your questions." Raspy said and winked when she stopped hopping around

Jazzmo13
"All right... Do you know of anyone I can talk to?" she asked, still a bit confused and lost. Aria shuddered slightly as a gust of wind caught her by surprise.

Melody came bounding back and clung onto the genie's leg and smiled up at her. "We have fun!"

And so the day finally ended after much time, Aria leaving with plans to maybe start a school, with some help of course.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 11, 2006 6:23 pm

Day VII.
The hiking trip.

"Augh! Its too early! Its like three! Go back to sleep Mel!" Aria hollared from the confines of her blankets and pillows as a very excited young Melody tried to force her to wake up.

"No, I wanna go! Pwease!" she pouted at the door which Aria had locked. The poor child could not sit still at all that night and had been up and down like an infant baby needing nourishment every two hours.

Aria grumbled from under her blankets. "Melody, we are not going anywhere if you don't get some sleep and let me have some too." she grumbled some more and listened as Mel decided it was best she went to bed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Melody was bouncing around as Aria, still sleep deprived followed her toward the trails they were going to hike through. "Yay! It's gonna be lots of fun!" she exclaimed, bouncing.

Aria was looking up at the sky and asking her gods what on earth to do with such a bouncy child on a day like this. She had a backpack leaden with foods, emergency equipment and tons of other things.

After a while of walking they finally reached the trails. "Here we are!" she exclaimed triumphantly.

"Yay! Goodie! Lets go, lets go, lets goooooooo!" yelled the hyperactive child, running ahead on two short legs without even a water bottle to hinder her movement, leaving poor Aria in the dust. Well, it could have been worse.

As the pair traveled along there were animals to see, and Mel learned about deers, rabbits, foxes, and warnings about bears as well as the different plants and herbs that grew there. Melody was bursting with questions about her surroundings and thank goodness Aria had most of them or there might have been quite the search for a book to explain everything and naming everything on the trail.

Stopping, Aria noticed a small lizard sunbathing on a rock by the river that was by the trail. "Mel, be very quiet. C'mere."she said and gestured for the girl to come closer.

Mel, sneaking up toward her gaurdian looked at the lizard. Her attention was soley on it and since they were so close to the river she was trying to be careful but she was just so interested in that lizard. Her steps were as soft as a feather hitting the floor, silent and gentle. She had an unusual grace and thus was able to do what she needed to do.

However, in her concentration she slipped in some mud, that was slicker than normal because of a rainfall and fell into the river. An ear splitting scream escaped from her soft lips as she cried out.

Thought process paused. Register scream. Mel. Mel is in danger. Look at Mel. Mel is in water! "Mel!" Aria hollared, diving into the water which wasn't deep and not flowing too quickly, but the girl had not learned how to swim yet. mental note: teach mel to Swim

Aria grabbed Melody's collar and slowly dragged her out of the water, spewing water and hating, over all the water at the moment. She normally loved water, baths, getting sprayed with a soaker gun.

"Mel! Are you all right, dear?" she asked the young child who was huddled in her lap.

"Yeah, I'm okay... Just startled. Where's the lizard?" she asked, shuddering from getting wet. Well, what a predicament. The little lizard, startled by sudden movements had promptly disappeared.

Aria sighed, "We need to teach you how to swim dear. And I mean swim well. Cause you might have drowned." Mel looked up at her with those pale green eyes, but for once, for mel's safety, she did not cave.

After about three hours of getting soaked in the river Aria had sucessfully adapted Melody to swimming in the water, which after some time of getting over her fear, Melody had grown to like.

Finally, they returned home. With child soaking and backpack empty due to eating after the lessons they were both tired. Changing into new clothes, which Aria had thoughtfully bought for Mel and herself, they curled up in the big bed, since Mel could not bear to part from her 'momma' and slept the rest of the evening away.

Day VIII
A day spent learning life's lessons with an animal.

It was ten a.m. Melody had gone outside to play in the yard while Aria made breakfast. Now the little emerald haired child came bounding into the kitchen, scaring the living lights out of Aria as she held a rather defeated looking fox cub.

"momma! Momma! She followed me home! She looked so sick I just wanted to bring her here! Can we keep her?" she shouted clinging onto Aria's leg and looking up at her gaurdian with the sweetest puppy dog eyes that were humanly possible.

Oh. No. The worst thing ever was to have a child bring in a pet from nowhere. Especially a wild animal. One from the woods. Lovely. Aria plastered on a fake smile and looked around desparately. Help? she thought.

"Sweetie, let me look and see." Aria examined the cub, noting how it was extremely bony and no more than a week or two old. Surely the mother was around somewhere? No, otherwise it would not be as sickly as it appeared. Aria sighed inwardly, she would just have to nurse it or else poor Mel would have problems understanding why it was not right to take care of something that was hurting all the time. It was best to help if one could, that was Aria's policy.

"All right, Melody, I want you to grab my small bag of herbs from the table that I went and got this morning, and some milk, bring them to me and we'll see what we can do." Aria told Mel calmly, to keep her child from worrying.

Melody was estatic so long as she got to help. She went skipping into the kitchen. "I wonder if Momma will let us keep her..." she mumbled to herself as she looked around, hopping onto a chair. She was like any four year old child, always wanting to help, but she spoke a lot better than some might imagine, but of course with the energy and joy of a small child.

Grabbing a small glass of milk left in the fridge because Aria didn't want her glass that morning she lugged the thing slowly into the living room where Aria was waiting with the fox cub, covering it in a blanket and making a new bed for him, for the fox was male.

"Here, I'll go get the herbs now." Mel spoke while Aria just nodded. Finally Melody retrieved the herbs and set them by Aria. Sitting cross-legged she looked at the small animal. "What now, Momma?"

"We wait. If it looks like he-" she stopped. Did she really want to tell Mel that the fox most likely would die before three hours were up if he wasn't watched with unwavering attention? No, that would devestate the small girl. Aria sighed, "I'll watch him, but now I want you to watch him while I put that milk in a bottle for him to eat from, all right?" Melody nodded.

Aria rose, going to find that long lost bottle she kept for cases like these and also as a momento. When she located it, scrubbed it and was finally putting the milk in it a loud screech echoed throughout the small home. A scream from Melody.

"Aria! Aria! He looks dead!" Melody yelled, running into the kitchen to cling to Aria's leg, which made it rather difficult to move to check on the foxling. Aria gently lifted up Mel and picked up the bottle.

"Melody, calm it down, or we'll never know. Yelling will hurt his sensitive ears if you continue to yell. He is sick, which makes it worse." Aria said gently as Mel stuffled her sniffles and sobs, being dramatic as Aria had expected she would.

Going into the living room, Aria bent down, lifting the fox's head, examining him as she would the animals of her homeland. "He's just sleeping Mel, its okay." Aria spoke, after she noticed the pulse, though very soft and low for an animal. Gently, Aria stroked the soft fur on his head and the fox blinked his golden eyes at her after a moment, sniffing food. Holding out the bottle, Aria was satisfied to see the fox was drinking his fill as she held him.

"Momma? May I help feed him too?" she asked, her voice infinitely soft as she reached out to hold the bottle. After a moment of consideration, Aria let her, though keeping a close eye on her child and the young fox. He would live, after all. Now, a name.

"Melody, what do you want to name him?" Aria asked, playing with her daughter's green hair that shimmered in the fading sun, as many hours had passed that they had spent with the small creature.

After much deliberating that took up an entire four seconds Melody looked at Aria and opened her mouth to say, "Jack!" Her face had been scrunched up in the deepest concentration Aria had ever seen on the fragile, young face, and yet it did not seem to bother her that it wasn't all that hard of a name. Smiling Melody looked to see if her Momma approved.

"Jack, perfect name, sweetie. Now, lets let him rest and we'll see how long it takes him to get better." she said with a small, tired smile.

Melody looked at the empty bottle and felt her own stomache churn for nourishment. "Mom?" she looked up at Aria with an innocent face, "I'm hungry."

Aria just laughed and went to the kitchen.

IX

The baking experience.

Flour. Chocolate chips. Spoons, mixers, butter, sugar, vanilla. All set, or so Aria thought before she winded up covered in flour, sugar up her nose and smelling of burnt cookies. Note to self: never, ever get distracted when cooking.

What happened... Oh yes. The Diary. Aria wandered over to her diary to write in it and explain all that happened that lovely, morning, noon and night which resulted in the chaos of her house while Melody was now fast asleep, with bits of batter in her hair.

Diary
Dear Diary,
Again, I don't know why I put "dear" anything in a book that is only to be seen by me, but it is a good way to make sure I don't forget little things. I'll call today "Lovely Baking Experiences" for all the fun we had today, though it was chaos, I will admit.

I woke up this morning, checked on Jake, and set out to make a good breakfast and start a baking project with Mel. I was thinking a simple recipe for chocolate chip cookies. Well, it didn't really turn out that way, I don't think, though we did get ONE successful batch.

I had all the ingredients set out and when Mel had finished her breakfast I told her we were going to make cookies. She was so excited, she bobbed up and down excitedly. "C'mon Momma! Show me, show me!" I think my daughter has a passion for sweet things, more than I do. So we began, we got the main bits done without hassle. Everything looked just fine, just dandy. Then came in a leaping little Jake. I guess he felt better today, because he whined and moaned at us, hungry.

Of course, I was distracted. Who couldn't be by such a cute little thing? Okay, shut up. I know I put the cookies in the oven just when he came in. They were only to cook for about 25 minutes, they were truely homemade and I had many ingredients in them. I was making several different kinds all chocolate chip, but some with nuts, some with oats, and such, to see which tasted better.

Jake was hungry so I and Mel sat down to feed him, which resulted in my complete absence of mind concerning the cookies in the oven. Oh, about an hour later I'm soaking wet because they caught on fire, and I ran to fix it, but I had to douse the oven. This didn't stop me from trying to make cookies though, a little water didn't hurt one, even if one had almost caught on fire. Note to self: by a fire extinguisher.

The beater decided to go haywire, I think its because its old, I guess. I'm not used to some of the appliances here, even if I've been living here for a year or two on gaia. The flour sped up out of the bowl and decided to make me a ghost. Melody was giggling at the sight I made. Who wouldn't, to be honest? I was covered in flour, and trying to blink through that stuff isn't exactly easy, you know.

Well, I just used a small, REGULAR WHISK, and finished. Then we were out of vanilla. I don't know how, oh wait, I spilt it in the process of trying to douse the fire. Which led to the venture to the store, a quick bite to eat and back to the house for another try. By this time it was about 2 in the afternoon. My kitchen was covered in flour, it appears Jake got into the flour bucket and knocked it all over the place. Remind me to never taking making cookies as a sign of something easy to make, that would be another note to myself. The sickly fox had settled down to sleep, right in the middle of my table, and he was covered, he looked like some kind of ice fox. I had to wash him off, and set out dinner for Melody.

Two hours later, I finally had a good batch. Which is good, because somehow I was going to kill the already dead ingredients if it didn't come out right.

Never believe anyone when they say baking cookies is always easy. Sometimes, everything goes wrong with the simplest of things.

Aria snuggled down in her covers, making the decision to stick with some other simple treat, at least for a little bit since the house was finally clean and all that flour was difficult to get rid of.

Day X

Oh my god! Its the ice cream man!

The familiar scent of food in the kitchen woke Aria up from her sleep. She was always making the breakfast so-

"AAAAAAH! Its burning!" a chiming cry came from the young child, Melody in fact. As Aria had appeared in the door, Mel burnt her finger, crying out in pain and making a mess of the pancake batter, by overturning it.

Oh dear Aria thought with a slight pang of worry. Fire first, which was a poor, rejected pancake glowing with the heat of about twenty bubbles, located within it. She had not gotten that fire extinguisher, it was after all only six in the morning and she was exhausted yesterday.

"Mel, move." Aria commanded, stepping forward, flipping the pancake into a sink of wet water and dishes. Well, that solved one problem. Flipping the stove off, she skipped into the bathroom for the first aid kit. Once she got the burn ointment, she returned to the mysteriously quiet Melody.

"Melody, I told you to keep from making such a mess several times, I had hoped. Why on earth were you out here trying to make pancakes? You could have woken me up so I could feed you." she reprimanded her child with all the worry in her voice a mother had. "You could have burned the house down."

Sighing softly, Melody looked up at Aria with sad eyes. "I was just trying to make you something... momma..." she whispered, her voice barely audible as she ran toward her room, a child who had only wanted to make someone happy.

After several minutes, she began to sing, a lullaby Aria had taught her one night when she was laying down and having problems getting to sleep. "na, na, na, the elves are wandering, whispering, teaching, speaking to the trees, na, na, na..." Her voice was as soft as silk, playing through the wind. Mel loved music, before she knew it she was calmer than before, though still singing.

Aria snuck in, finding her daughter by the window, outlooking the forest and Brass'ken lake. It was lovely today, the sun was shining and her daughter's green hair twisted and moved like soft strands of unthreaded silk as the wind gently passed by. "Sweetie, I just don't want you hurt. Since you have a burn, how about we just go get some ice cream?"

Ice cream? What was that? "What's ice cream, Aria? Is it something sweet? I think you told me about it before." she said, pausing in her song. She heard Aria chuckle softly and shake her head. Aria was always playful, Melody thought, always watchful too.

"Its a very cold treat. C'mon. We'll go get some after breakfast. And you can help me make the stuff, since you want to learn how to cook so badly." Aria spoke with a slight laugh, signalling the way she woke up was all right and she wasn't mad with her daughter.

After a breakfast, with some soothing herbal tea, Aria was ready for hike and a galf, running a marathon, and jumping around like a silly bouncing bunny. Yes, everything was just fine.

Day XI
Tale and Mel go to the beach!

VampirePenguins
((Okay! Here we go! To the beach!

Tale'Moana sat in her bowl. She was so exsited, and it showed in her frantic splashings. Today was her first trip to the beach, and she couldn't wait to go swimming. VP carried her gently in her bowl.
"Stop splashing, Tale. Or you'll fall out." She scolded.
"I'm sorry, VP. I'm just so happy! When will Mel meet us?" Said the very hyper Tale. "I can't wait to play!"
VampirePenguins sighed. "Soon. I think. They should be here soon. So calm down!"
Words would not calm her till she could play with Mel and swim in the water. She splashed again, getting VP damp.

Jazzmo13
Aria, with Mel in her arms walked slowly toward the beach, her eyes bright. She had met VP recently and found out she had a young mermaid for a daughter. This was good for Aria to have somewhere to go with Melody.

Mel was excited, "Yay! How is Tale? What is she like? I've not met her before. Is she nice? Will she like me? please tell me..." she said with a blank look. She was completely lost.

Aria smiled, "Calm down, we're almost there." she said as she looked around for VP.

VampirePenguins
VP saw Aria first. She called over and pointed the two out to Tale.

"look. There they are now. So calm down, little girl." VP said tickling Tale's belly. She strode over to Aria.
"Hello, Aria. Hello, Mel. You ready to go down to the beach?"

Tale splashed again. "Hello Mel! Oooh! I like your outfit! Its yellow. I like yellow. (<3) I'm ready! Are you ready, Mel?" Tale'moana smiled and scooted to the edge of her bowl to look exsitedly at Mel.

Jazzmo13
Mel reached out for Tale. She liked the water. "You look so cute! You're a mermaid! Are we going to play in the water?"

Aria smiled and nodded. "Yeah we're both ready. So how are you doing?"

VampirePenguins
(Sorry its taking me long. My babies are being born now. -points to sig- Sorry if posts are short.)

Tale nodded taking Mel's hand. "Yeah! I can't wait to go swimming! And its such a nice day too!" Tale said, splashing around less now.

VP smiled at Aria. "I'm fine. I can't wait till these two can get into the water. Tale has been waiting for this ALL week!"

Jazzmo13
Aria chuckled, "Mel has been excited and driving me completely insane." she said with a small laugh as the small child looked up at her impatiently.

"Lets go!" finally she had been sat down and waited for tale to be set into the water so she could play with her.

(its okay.)

VampirePenguins
(thanks. <3)

Tale's bowl was set by the waters edge. She slipped out and into the water, laughing with joy. Almost imediatly, the mermaid girl was swimming out into the water. She splashed and came back in twards Mel.
"its cold! But fun!" Said Tale and she splashed around more, spraying VP once again.

VP sighed and shook herself. "I don't know if she tries to or not, but she always gets me wet."

Jazzmo13
Aria smiled, "Thats okay. It could be worse. Water isn't as bad as ear shattering screams." she said, nodding. She sat down on the sand and watched as Mel dived into the water.

Mel splashed Tale, she was exstatic. "This is fun." she said and dunked herself for a moment. Now she was completely wet.

VampirePenguins

Tale smiled and swam over to Mel. She ducked under the water and waved, smiling. She didn't have to surface to breath. Mermaids could breath under and above water. Tale swam in a quick circle around Mel and surfaced.

VP laughed, "Well. I guess that would be troublesome, yes?"

Jazzmo13
"Well, Mel is more the sort who loves to sing. And I do mean, love to sing. Sometimes though, if she's startled, then she screams. But she's startled me on one than more occasion." Aria explained watching the two children.

Mel smiled and surfaced, still not a strong swimmer, which is why she was careful not to go out too far. "Well... I'm Mel. I like... shells." she said with a smile, really not sure what to say to her newfound friend.

VampirePenguins
"Tale likes to splash.. and swim in the tub. And she likes to paint. Water colors, you see." Vp laughed, seeing now that Tale wasn't that bad.

Tale surfaced too. "I like shells too! And sand. And water. And painting. and Music!" She said laughing and smiling. "Do you like music? I like to listen to Vp's music."

Jazzmo13
She laughed lightly with a smile. "Yeah, I can see how that would be fun. Its a lot of fun with Mel though. We've been going on a hike, making cookies and all sorts of things." she said with a nod.

Mel laughed, "I like to sing. Sand is neat. Momma won't let me yet play with paint. She thinks I'll make a mess." she said with a laugh and lightly splashed her friend.

VampirePenguins

"I play with paints in the tub!" said Tale. "I paint on the tiles in the bath tube and then we wash it off when I all done." Tale splashed her friend back, and ducked under the water with an even bigged splash.

"I should let her help me in the kitchen sometime. I just havn't figured out how yet. Its a bit trickier with a Mermaid." Vp added. And it was, since she had to keep her tail damp or else she would dry up.

Jazzmo13
She went under water and blinked at her friend as she smiled. The water was refreshing and she was enjoying it. Her soft eyes positively lit up with the new company.

Aria smiled with a soft nod. "Yeah. Its a bit difficult I would imagine. What about with dishes?" she asked.

VampirePenguins
"Dish washer..." Said VP. "Though I could still let her help me wash some of them. Besides, as she grows up, her scales will toughen, she will be able to spend more time out of the water, too."

Tale surfaced and tagged Mel. "Tag! Your it!!" She squeeled and swam off on her back.

Jazzmo13
Aria smiled and nodded slightly. "i can see that would be annoying. Sometimes you get more than what can fit in a dishwasher. Anyways, try having her clean your tubs then. Be careful it doesn't irritate her scales.

Mel laughed lightly and went after Tale quickly, but was a bit slow in the water. She didn't know how to swim perfectly.

And the day continued until they separated and went their own ways, busy with active minds, lots of fun spent and maybe a few tans on different people. Mel didn't do anything but get a slight burn, but Aria took care of it in the end.

XII
Time always takes its toll on new mothers and also sneaks uup at the most akward of moments. Melody had been growing and one only needed to take the time it took to glance over her to notice the lanky legs and the development of her body into something much more mature.
Aria had been resting, curled up in a small ball, her soft breathing a quiet indicator that she had been worn out by the days before as her adopted daughter kept her busy.
She had taken Melody to school to learn the basics of her education but it was obvious that she always loved music. A soft melody played through the house, one that disturbed not the sleep of the elf.

Her voice was growing ever more each day and she was slowly showing that she was gaining skill andm ability. Jack, the small fox grown to a decent size of foxy adolescence, lay in her lap, playing with a small ball made from newspaper. As she turned her head to look in the mirror, she smiled.
When she rose from her position by the window a small, dark wet spot lay on the soft padding of the pillow she had been sitting on. Noticing it, she went closer and then the whole house and probably if there were neightbors the whole neighborhood was disrupted by the scream that came from Melody's pink lips, usually so revealing of happy things.

"Wha-? What?" Aria stumbled from her bed, tripping on her soft mocassins by the bed as she did so, missing the slick part of the floor as she tried to make her way to the bedroom that was Melody's and recently redesigned to suit the young girl.
"Momma! Momma! I'm dying!" Melody screeched as she came sliding down the hall seizing her mother's shoulders and staring her straight in the eye, frantic for reassurancek.
Aria blinked sleepily, trying to comprehend what her daughter could possibly be talking about.
"What are you talking about, dear? You're not dying." She looked her daughter over, checking her hands, looking for any blood she could find.

"Yes I am! Look!" Melody cried, dragging the sleepy elf with her at which point she looked down toward her daughter's stained bottom and tilted her head as she was dragged to look at the stained pillow that lay by the window, the spot one of blood.
"See? See, Momma?" Melody pointed and that was the point that the poor elf could no longer contain the laughter that had come from the realization that her daughter had started her period.

"Honey, you're not dying, you just became a young woman." Aria tried to explain through the spurts of laughter, knowing her daughter was visibly distressed. However, knowing that it was not life threatening made the situation all that much more hilarious to the elf.
Melody continued to look at her in confusion, her head tilted, her eyes wide and confused. Aria tried again.
"Its what happens when you get close to your teen years or are into them. It means that you are no longer a little girl and may be able to have children, although I will have to ask Minty and Raspberry about the ways that would happen in your case." Aria explained and the rest of the discussion about how to take care of the period, keep underwear clean, clean stains and all the rest followed leaving one young woman learning what it means to feel the cramps she had often see her mother have.
