Nembus was both relieved and dismayed that Faustite and she agreed on Albite's terrible fit for Information. Relieved because she had read him right, relieved because she sensed the barest hint of a smile on Faustite's face, which was a good sign for her. Dismayed because it truly implied Albite was just as airheaded as she worried he was, dismayed that they might continue to have trouble seeing eye-to-eye as she taught him if she didn't understand it the way she explained it.

One of the issues with having so few memories was the fact it came with the lack of ability to form a context with which to explain things in an alternative manner. They needed cats because they needed cats. Why did they need cats? Because they needed cats.

Keeping it simple was not necessarily something Nembus was good at.

She could see where Albite might make a good fit for Infiltration with all of his civilian-side connections. If any of those connections came with connections to people in influence -- or at least to people who influenced some group of people -- he would be useful to Infiltration. He could spend most of his time as a civilian being charismatic, twisting his words subtly to change public opinion in their favor. He could utilize those connections to pull at people's thoughts. Hit them with a smile good enough that of course they'd believe he was telling the truth.

But in some ways, that kind of charisma required a certain ... finesse. She wasn't yet sure if he had that.

He was friendly enough, at least. Had been easy enough for her to be friendly with.

"He definitely looks sturdy enough for it. Have to wonder if part of his charisma is just that people find him easy to look at." The removal of herself from the people in that phrasing was interesting. "Makes a lot of sense for Special Ops, but I'll try to observe him from my Infiltration perspective and make a determination if he'd be a better fit there." Try to. Couldn't even be definite when she was attempting to make a good impression. Of course, she was attempting to. She had no idea what she was doing. Didn't even know if she should be doing.

By Metallia.

"I'll see what I can do to desensitize him." She rubbed her neck. "I'd introduce him to Theodore, but," she hadn't seen him in a hot second either, and that seemed to be the implication with the way she frowned.

She supposed she'd need a new guardian cat connection herself. One step at a time.

... But did she really want a new guardian cat connection?

Stillwaterite's -- Sedna's -- words rang like a sickening mantra in her mind.

I'm telling you about Chaos' influence on your thoughts and actions because it gets worse and more controlling as you advance in rank.

"Good, you have the start of a plan." Leading others would help her learn about herself. Roles taught who she was, who she wasn't. Being made responsible for someone else's well-being would give her a reason to try, since her recollection stated that she hadn't tried since losing contact with her team. Which led him to wonder: did Cybele's dutifulness come from being around Sylvite? Would Heliodor still have been around if he had been, too?

Faustite's hand left the back of the chair and he approached the desk again. Approached his desk, got up top of it like before. "Cats have a room in the Cathedral. Theirs, so knock politely. Could meet a few that way." Though he doubted Nembus would try, looking so wilted and sheepish and high-strung as she was.

He remembered being like that — knowing that every move would be the wrong one, and he had to pick the least wrong. Had to keep his head down. Had to obey, even if obedience was openly painful. Faustite frowned.

Schörl might show up in these halls at any time, he knew. He'd gotten somewhat comfortable with her absence. But if she heard tell that her General inherited another Senshi, a Super at that, she would laugh. They gave him another to ruin, because the first went so well. Then she'd do all in her power to break Nembus and make her into something more useful than her starseed, or Nembus would be so broken she wouldn't manage the basics, and she'd become another tactical heal. Neither option was good. Nembus couldn't realize her precarity, not when she was already so uptight.

Would reassurances matter? Probably not. Faustite didn't have any, anyway.

He'd press her for answers, but that bade ill, too. Overwhelm her on her first day when she looked overwhelmed enough. He needed to observe her — see how she behaved around people.

"Give you time to think about it. You've a week to give me a plan. Questions?" That would let her escape, and give her something to do.

A start of a plan. Thrilling. Perhaps her plan should be twofold: get Faustite the answers he wanted, but also hurry Albite to leveling so he was no longer her responsibility, no longer her problem, no longer her worry. Knowing what Sedna had said, should she even encourage Albite further in the Negaverse? Knowing what Sedna had said, wasn't that everything she could have possibly wanted? Albite would be deeper into Chaos.

Nembus didn't want anyone to be deeper into Chaos, did she?

She wrung her hands once again, pondering quietly over the existence of the Cats' Cathedral Room. A start, at least. Perhaps she should just direct Albite to knock and see who was inside. For her own benefit, she could figure out who else was there, figure out which one of them could help her in her own conundrum. Albite would need to get over himself and befriend them. She would need to find a new one if she ever wished for another level.

Perhaps if she leveled again, the duties of Chaos would leave her alone.

Unlikely.

The escape was something she quite nearly glommed onto, and she did her best to not sound too eager to escape her new general's presence despite how understanding he seemed when she replied. "Ah, no. I'll do what I can. I will let you know what I figure out in a week."

She brushed off her skirts as if they had gathered dirt.

"Do you need anything else from me?"

I need whatever it is that'll fix you, he wanted to say, but thought better of it. Most people didn't know how to help themselves, and that was irritating. Irritating to watch them have all the possibilities of a good life, all the trappings of one, but bemoan their unhappiness. And while Nembus was a little closer to him, she still had all the makings of a human — for that, he was jealous of her. Why she stagnated instead of flourished over the years perplexed him.

"No," he decided at last, and he moved back to his stool. "You're dismissed.'

A week bought him time to make a plan for her. Meet with some Infiltration contacts, gather more details on what those officers are expected to do. Speak with some of the more charismatic ones for a few ideas — they usually knew how to make life more interesting — and see if there was a formal report made on Cybele's repurification. Might need to make a report of his own on stolen enemies and how to treat them.

There was much to keep him occupied regardless. Even more to keep him cursing about whoever did this reassignment.

He still needed her file, too. Five days late… The a**-dragging bastards.
