Oh! Aleksi found himself stepping closer with interest. “So you’re sailing all the way there from the southern ports?” That was the closest area, right? His father had spoken about the new islands when they first appeared because he was pondering going there himself. The writer would go to any lengths to gather inspiration after all.

“Yes.” Kaimana’s grin widened at the sight of the boy’s excitement. “We’re heading there first thing in the morning and leaving on the ship now that it’s ready.” The Matori was obviously bouncing with excitement at the very thought of the journey. “Exciting, right?”

“It is!” Aleksi had to admit with a chuckle. “I’d love to hear all about it. Would you be returning this way?” He was already imagining seeing the Matori again in the future and thinking about all of the tales he would bring! Could he perhaps even slip him some coin for a souvenir? Aleksi grinned as he pulled out a piece of paper from his school books. “Let me leave you a note and some coin if so. I’d love to hear about what everything is like overseas.”

“Asking a lot of a stranger, aren’t you?” Teased Kaimana as he took the coin and paper anyway. “I’ll do my best to see if I can find you when we’re in port.” He held up the paper as if inspecting it a final time before tucking it away in his satchel. “Either way I should get going. Take care, Aleksi!” He gave a playful wink before turning on a heel and walking away, his newly acquired fruit in hand.
