“I noticed! Congratulations, Faustite. I’m proud of you. It’s well deserved.” Lysithea’s voice was warm, and the praise was genuine, but she was a little saddened by it. At least he was still around, so long as he wasn’t dead or destroyed...there was still a chance to bring him home. Maybe.

God she wished that she could.

“I’m happy to hear that you completed the mission and are still around too.” She nudged him slightly, her foot against his knee. “Why wouldn’t I still be around? I feel as though I’ll always be around so long as there’s people who need me. And...there always seem to be some, so...I’m glad.”

She smiled softly, dark eyes moving up and down his new form, new outfit. It was...rather intimidating if she were being honest...but…

“Why would you think I wouldn’t? Did you think I’d be killed?”

He looked down at her foot where it moved against his leg. Usually no one touched him. And it wasn't that he minded it — the feeling was foreign enough to be a small shock, but not so strange as to be unpleasant — but he wondered if she knew that her shoe would melt if she left it there. At the very least, it might break under her weight when it cooled.

It was easier to dwell on the shoe than the praise. He liked the shoe, though it didn't have a place in his wardrobe.

He listened, and at least she moved on from the praise. He preferred that; they were all things others pointedly didn't say to him, and they left him uneasy. He liked the shoe, but he wasn't sure about the motives of the person who wore it.

But now that the conversation was on her — Faustite looked up to her jet eyes. "People die or they stop powering up. They give up. It's a war of attrition — you do enough, you get noticed, you die. You don't do anything, you move away, you leave it behind. It's normal, it's human. The people who stay and fight for years, decades — it's abnormal, it's improbable.

"Hadn't seen you for years. Thought you'd be gone, one way or another."

She'd said plenty enough already. Faustite supposed he didn't need to act all human about eating a melty, messy, grilled cheese sandwich, so he set the thing down atop the bag and pulled a screwdriver from the in-between, started unscrewing parts of his grate and holding the screws between his lips for safekeeping. Eventually the middle disc popped loose, affording him enough space to stuff a few sandwiches. He picked up the sandwich, still half-wrapped to keep his hands clean, and tossed it inside the grate.

Lysithea watched him for a moment longer, frowned slightly as he tossed the sandwich into...well. The fire that resided in his stomach…

...Yeah that certainly wasn’t normal but. She wasn’t someone to judge. With a sigh, she took a bite of her own sandwich once again and shrugged. “I’ll always be here, I think. I won’t stop powering up until I’ve helped everyone who needs it. I won’t leave until I’ve saved everyone who wants to be saved. And that includes you, Faustite. I won’t ever give up on you. I haven’t all this time, and I can’t see doing it at any point in the future. I won’t stop powering up while I’m needed...and as long as there is fighting...and as long as there are people who are afraid...I’ll be there.”

It was something she believed in, and it was something she would continue to work for.

No matter what.

He would've liked her so terribly much when he was a Lieutenant. He liked her, still, as a Captain. He recalled at the ways she warmed him when they first met, when they went to her world and had a picnic, had a whole discussion about purification. Faustite could not recall another White Moon senshi who showed him the same level of kindness or stayed their magic when they spotted him. Most reacted with violence, and he had found it refreshingly straightforward.

But Lysithea? She was optimistic. She valued people — even those who weren't people. That, he supposed, made her a threat.

Faustite smiled wryly. "Save me from what, exactly? What would you change about me? Want to know what you want, Lysithea."

“Save you from Chaos, obviously.” Lysithea gave a little laugh, flopping down onto the ground and sighing wistfully. “What I want? The same as I did before. I want to bring you home with me. I want to take care of you, and see that you can smile, see that you have a family. I want to keep you safe and protect you from the oppression that lives in the Negaverse...Fausitite. I just.”

Glancing over at him, her eyes fond and warm. “I just want to know that you’re safe. Happy. Healthy. I want to give you a chance to have your life back. A chance to really live again...instead of tossing perfectly delicious grilled cheeses into your...ah.”

She shrugged. “Furnace, I guess? I just. You deserve so much more than that. I want to give you the world.”

He listened to her, silent, his food left untouched and his hands pooled in his lap. He listened past her aura, which screamed obscenities at his youma side.

She wanted to give him his life back. Shelter him. Protect him from the Negaverse that she never knew. She wanted him living a mundane life again. She wanted him going to school, getting a job, paying taxes. Maybe she wanted him to enlist in the army, maybe die for his country. Maybe she wanted him to get a wife and start his own family. Or live as some part of hers. Was that what she meant by have his life back?

Or did she mean that she wanted him to be Elex again? Resume life at fifteen, but his family was dead and he had only Lysithea to depend on. Couldn't guess what 'life' meant to her, what permutation of it she wanted for him.

No matter the dissection, she wanted him to be human again. But the longer he was youma, the more he disliked his human skin. The more he was thankful that he didn't live in this dismal place where people took advantage of each other and transacted dreams.

At the end, Faustite nodded. It was a soft dip of his head, something intended to acknowledge what Lysithea said, that he listened.

"Then give me the world," he replied, and he looked her in the eye. His gaze was always warm, but it wasn't kindly.

He had been quiet for so long, and honestly, Lysithea had been more than expecting a rejection, had been expecting to be told that she was far too late, that she had missed her chance to give him any sort of help. That he no longer wanted her help...but.

His response had her lighting up in a pure, unbridled joy.

It was all that she needed. For him to believe. To want. To trust her. To accept what she was offering. And now he was.

“All right. Mark your words, Faustite.” Lysithea’s voice was absolutely giddy and heedless of the fire radiating off of him, she pressed her lips to the half youma’s cheek. “You won’t regret it. I’ll need to talk with my group, but I swear to you, Faustite. The next time that we meet, I will give you the world. All of it. Without fail.”

Listen to her, all smiles and glee. She was a sweet, soft thing, and the world had been irresponsible with her. Had taught her that, with a little magic and a little faith, she could sway anyone to join her cause. That she could sell humanity to even the most jaded with a few kind words and a greasy dinner.

However he thought of her, her happiness was contagious. He felt some small measure of her excitement as his own, and he knew that when they next met, he needed to outplan her. He doubted that would be such a chore, the way she showed up alone, the way that teleportation outpaced even the fastest runners. Then, she would give him the world.

And he would've liked it. Her world, shattered star in the sky. Metallia's great boon of energy.

"Without fail," he agreed.

He supposed, by now, that starseed was returned to its owner. Fair trade for calories while on the job. Fairer trade for a chat with ever-hopeful Lysithea. He'd gotten to his knees, then stood, and swept his bag of ill-gotten delectables up onto a wrist. "Don't keep me waiting." He looked at her a second longer, doe-eyed thing sat pretty in the grass, then vanished with a thought.
