Ghost listened, resting his chin on one hand and watched Argent as he fumbled through his explanation somewhat, food momentarily forgotten. Sure, he had always like that, even as a child, but sometimes Argent seemed almost ... obsessed with him. It was sweet, in a way, but could also be a problem, couldn't it?
"We could, if that is what you want?" He was almost sure it wasn't about the food. Had he been wrong? Was there something else the other was hinting at after all? "Why me though? Not that I don't appreciate you wanting to be my ...friend ..." he tilted his head slightly at that, another thing he wasn't sure Argent had said exactly as he'd meant to, "wouldn't it be more interesting to make friends with the others your age? I'm sure they would love to hang out with you, you don't need to train all the time, you know?"

"I would like it, of course. If you aren't busy." Argent pushed some food around on his plate. "Why not you?" He countered. "Others my age..." he frowned. He hadn't seen Amber in forever, Eden was mad at him, and Slven... no. Just no. "I don't have much in common with them. They are more care free. I simply can't seem to be. I have more in common with Aren then most of them. I can be content with training every spare moment, and ensuring the safety of the dome. I... I would say I'm even happy this way. If I can protect everyone else's happiness, I'm content." He turned so he could fix his singular eye on Ghost. "That includes you..." he sighed. "And Aren. But I don't know what makes you happy." Argent wasn't sure he was making sense.

Why not him indeed. Maybe he could even understand where Argent was coming from, really. It wasn't like he had any 'friends' either, certainly not his age. Well, there was Zephyr, but she was out scouting most of the time, the ever elusive Orion, and Aren, of course, but their friendship was ... different.
He kept watching the younger man, looking for ... what, he couldn't quite say. What he did realize, once again, was that Argent definetely was no longer a child. Sometimes it was hard to forget, despite the fact that he was taller than him by about a head now, and stronger build. Even more of a soldier than he ever had been.
"Honestly? I guess I am pretty much happy knowing that everyone is safe and doing fine. Other than that? I have no idea." He finally replied with a somewhat sheepish smile, possibly more open than he ever had been with Argent, or anyone that wasn't Aren.

Ghost smiled. Argent couldn't help but stare at the sheepish look Ghost gave him. That was a look he wanted to protect. "You look good when you smile." He pushed his plate aside and rested his arm on the table, turning to more fully face Ghost. "Maybe we should find what makes you happy." He stated honestly. "I'd love to know what else will make you smile. I couldn't help but notice how content you looked while we were cooking." He rested his head on his hand, looking very relaxed as he faced Ghost.

"Sure, we can be friends." he replied after a short pause, keeping his gaze steady on Argent, smile not wavering. Damn that kid. But there it was, the thing he had been ... searching for? The posture, the look Argent gave him, the way he phrased his words.
There was no way he didn't know exactly what he was doing. Or was there? But Ghost ... didn't want to play around. He didn't like to. "However ..." he straightened a little, pushing the now empty plate away to the side before leaning forward, posture slightly mirroring Argent's, eyes narrowing ever so slightly, but not unfriendly so. "Something tells me that 'being friends' isn't exactly what you are looking for."

Being friends... that did make him happy, but at the same time, it felt hollow. Was friendship all he wanted? Argent watched Ghost nearly mirror his posture. "You may be right." He replied cryptically. "Friendship is nice. But..." he lifted his free hand to his chest, fingers splaying over where his heart was. "In time I'd like to pursue more." Was he really saying that? He wanted more with Ghost?
... Yes. Yes he did.
"If you would be willing to entertain such thoughts with me." He may have been younger then Ghost, but he was an adult, and to say he didn't feel a longing for a deep connection with someone, with Ghost specifically, would be a lie.

It wasn't really the answer he had expected. To be honest, he had expected anything but. For Argent to be confused, or sheepishly reply that of course he wanted to be just friends, what else could he want? But then again, he might have to face it, finally, that this boy was really no longer a child.
If Argent really felt drawn to him like that ... well, it had kind of been obvious for a while, hadn't it? If he thought about it, looked for it ... but what about him then? Did he feel the same? He hadn't really viewed Argent as an adult, not entirely. Or maybe he had and had just refused to admit it to himself, because he had been too preoccupied with ... other matters.
Still ... he did enjoy the others company, even more so now than he had before, and that wasn't entirely because their sparring matches had gotten more interesting with Argents growing skills. Those were still way beneath his. He'd never thought about why else, then. Until now. "I'm not sure I can give you an answer to that quite yet." he finally said, studying the younger mans reaction. "But I can't say I'm ... entirely opposed to the idea."

Argent watched Ghost's face as he processed what he'd just said. Argent was thinking about it too. Had he said the right words? Made his feelings at least partially known? But Ghost did finally respond.
"I didn't expect an answer right away. This is not the conversation you expected we'd have, is it?" Argent's face softened, his expression easy and soft. "I want you to be happy. If I can make you happy, I'd... honestly love it. But I do want you to be sure." He leaned in closer. "We can start as friends." But the look in his eye said 'but I won't be satisfied with just that.'

"I sure didn't." Ghost chuckled softly. "But I don't mind. And I think I would like that, yes. To see where ... this ... leads." Whatever this was.
But he really didn't mind, did he? He hadn't thought about ever getting close to anyone, really. First there was the war, and then, on the century long flight here, he had gotten so used to being alone that he had stopped thinking about it entirely. He had thought it was probably better, too, he didn't want to experience the shattering grief that Aren had, ever. But was it, really? Maybe he would have to ... think about it more.

He was glad. Getting to spend more time with Ghost made him incredibly happy, even if Argent didn't know exactly why. He would have to think of a good 'hang out' activity. Maybe a walk? He could show Ghost where the wild herbs grew.
"Mmmh, you should think of something you would like to do." and I'll make it happen. "we can talk about it after we finish training tomorrow. You still want to train, right?" He stood and started gathering the dishes from lunch. "I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked, hesitating a moment for Ghost's reply before retreating to clean up the mess he made in the kitchen.
