“Aqua,” he said, biting back a small laugh. “You kind of did sleep your way up the ranks. Not necessarily with that intention,” he quickly added, not wanting to get yelled at or something thrown at him. They were in a relationship after all. More than just a relationship. While Jet didn’t have Aquamarine promoted with just that in mind, he did favor helping out Aquamarine, as well as his recruits, in terms of energy quotas.
“Cymophane is harmless. I’m not interested in him if that’s what you’re worried about,” he said with a small sigh, because he could tell that Aquamarine was jealous, but he was trying to figure out a way to reassure him without making things worse. “I’m not interested in anyone else.”
It was true. Even if he wasn’t sure about their relationship at first, or how he even felt about… everything… he took comfort in Lovely’s companionship. No, Lovely was not the best when it came to sympathy, but he’d also been the first to propose, had already run away from home, had gone out of his way to save him on multiple occasions.
Jet would be stupid to ruin that loyalty, and dare he say love, that Aquamarine felt for him.

Aquamarine did not laugh. He did not smile. He did not offer Jet his forgiveness.
He glared. Darkly.
“I hope you’re joking,” he said. It was one thing being accused by other people, but having Jet agree with them was something else entirely. “Here I was assuming you thought better of me than that.”
Sure, he transferred to Jet as soon as Jet became a General, partly because he knew Jet would let him get away with anything. He could talk back and act snide and be lazy about his energy quota, and Jet would cover for him, and not discipline him, not just because Jet felt guilty that Aquamarine ended up dragged into all this Negaverse s**t, but because he liked Aquamarine on a personal level. Aquamarine took advantage of their relationship to make things easier on himself, and he’d likely do it again.
But he also made the transfer for a more selfless reason — because he didn’t want to be occupied elsewhere, under some other General’s command, at a time when Jet might need him.
Jet should know that. Hadn’t Aquamarine made it obvious? Hadn’t he said that Jet was all he cared about?
Aquamarine jerked his head to the side, turning away from Jet and taking his glare with him.
“If that b***h steps out of line,” he warned, “I’ll rip his starseed out myself.”

He didn’t try to apologize for apparently angering Aquamarine by his comment. He could start pulling out how they were sleeping together, and how Aquamarine had benefitted from Jet covering for him when it came to quotas, especially in the beginning. But Jet was fully aware it was his fault that Aquamarine had been pulled into the Negaverse. It was the least he could do to try and make it up to him.
“Leave him alone. There’s no reason for you to be jealous,” Jet promised, although he doubted Aqua would appreciate any compliments at the moment. Especially with Aquamarine jerking his head away from him.
“Love,” he said with a small sigh of exasperation. “What would you like me to do? I’m not going to stop recruiting people I think would do well. I don’t care what they look like or what they think. Didn’t you want people to look at me? That’s why you convinced me to take better care of my hair, isn’t it? Because I could really care less if it was a horrible mess.”

Of course he had to go and call him that when Aquamarine wanted to be angry and belligerent. At least this time, Aquamarine’s brain didn’t short circuit. He could think, but it wasn’t as easy to hold onto his anger.
Stubbornly, he clung to the trailing threads of it, and he ignored the faint heat that pooled in his cheeks.
“I don’t want people to look at you, I want people to fear you and respect you,” Aquamarine argued. “I want you to be powerful and commanding and have your revenge, so at least all the bullshit we’ve been through will be worth it.”
Aquamarine didn’t have much of a choice when he joined. He had a choice now, and he chose to stay by Jet’s side.
So what if he hated all the others Jet brought along? With how many Senshi he’d recruited, it was beginning to feel crowded.
“I’m done talking about this,” he decided, facing his paperwork so he could rifle through it again, searching for something, anything that seemed interesting. “I have work to do.”

Jet watched Aquamarine silently. He didn’t comment on the pink in his cheeks, nor did he comment about his ambitions for him. After coming from nothing, Jet had always been grateful for having something, so it was a strange concept to want more than that.
But he understood what Aquamarine meant. He just had a long way to go before he expected people to look at him and fear him. At least anyone who wasn’t White Moon.
Without another word, Jet pushed himself up so he could step away from Aquamarine’s desk, and went back to his own to continue working on what he was doing before Cymophane.
