"What are you doing?" Quipped back Zyphire in turn before Gunnar tried to put some distance between them. Oh if that b*****d thought he could just back away...a laugh actually escaped Zyphire's lips. "I guess you're not happy to see me, but I would think you'd be more worried about your plans falling through." Whatever those damned plans had been. Was just destroying a whole village some sort of summer checklist for this guy? Zyphire felt fury rise in his chest as he pulled out his actual swords and strode forward after Gunnar.
Zyphire didn't even know anyone in this village personally but his spirit was in anguish for the destruction he had witnessed, especially for Sylvirah's sake. How in the world did the man before him even have a soul to slay those who he had known all of his life?! Fury made his gaze gleam in the evening light, the rising moon making his transition into a spirit all the more believable. "I think you owe everyone an explanation." Already it felt like the sounds of battle were quietening down as the numbers of mercenaries diminished, either by fleeing the wild villagers or by falling to their weapons. As it was there would be none for Gunnar to relay on as Zyphire prepared to make certain the man faced his punishment.

"I'm doing the only thing that makes sense!" Gunnar snarled. "Take a look around! There are no herds here, the winters are longer than ever and there aren't even enough mounts left to carry the living out of this hell!" He swept a hand out, clearly meaning to exhibit the vast frozen wasteland around them but instead showcased the violence he himself had started. "Anytime one of us wanted to leave we were called traitors! For wanting to live!"
"If you'd just stayed then you could have helped us!" Sylvirah shrieked. "How is abandoning your people the right thing to do?!"
"I DIDN'T ABANDON YOU." Gunnar bellowed. He was so enraged that his skin was starting to mottle. "I came for you, I fought for you, I stayed as long as I could FOR YOU. I pulled as many resources as I could to bring supplies back to this sorry pit all for you and what did you do?" Gunnar clucked his tongue. "You 'did' him."
Sylvirah's eyes widened. "You're insane. You did all of this because you were jealous?!"
"They were going to die anyway. You could have just left them alone and lived by my side in Zena. I would have given you the stars for earrings if you asked, but every time my back was turned you were on yours for another man." Raising his sword, he leveled it directly at her. "And now, I'll kill you both but not before I cut that b*****d out of you. Be grateful; if it doesn't look like a freak then I'll keep it."

"If you truly knew Sylvirah then you would have realized that you never could have fought for her, you sorry excuse of a man. You aren't even worthy enough to look at her." Zyphire spat the words into the snow, his disgust obvious as the pathetic being in front of him kept spewing bullshit. If anything he was ready to carve out the iceling's eyes just for looking towards Sylvirah. A lecherous man indeed who didn't even realize how to take care of a treasure like the huntress next to him. All he wanted was someone to control and force into some sort of sick fantasy that abandoned everything she believed in instead of doing what was right by the innocent living here who had supported them. "You forced her into an arrangement that she didn't even desire and murdered everyone that you had promised her you would help. Even now you're taking an easy way out to avoid your own damn cowardice instead of facing how pathetic you truly are."
"You want to kill us?" A laugh escaped Zyphire as he shot a glare towards Gunnar. "Please try." Regret crossed his features as he glanced towards Sylvirah. This was her fight but yet he felt like he had to do something, especially considering that she was carrying his child. Zyphire would rather risk his own neck than allow anything to happen to Sylvirah and now the risks were even greater than before. "I should cut your eyes out first and then perhaps your tongue so we don't have to listen to all of your vile rubbish." He began as he raised his blades and took step after step towards Gunnar, basically forcing the iceling to focus him instead of Sylvirah. "Afterwards we'll take the limbs and just leave your blind and mute torso to be fed and left to wallow in its own s**t, month after month until finally time has decided to take your sorry existence out of this world and into the next so that the spirits may then torment you."

The more Zyphire spoke the angrier Gunnar became. "I don't even know why I'm wasting my breath. If you had any sense you would have just left us alone and if you had a thought in your head," This time he directed his words toward Sylvirah, "You would have kept your legs closed."
Instead of rising to his bait she looked to Zyphire. As much as she wanted to be the one to do this she couldn't out of fear of hurting their child. There was already too much risk with her just being this far North, let alone in the middle of a battle, but if Gunnar got too close her really would do something nasty.
The differences between the two men couldn't have been more obvious. In all reality either one could have been the father, but their responses to it were so different. Zyphire clearly wanted his family, though Sylvirah knew he would love the child as much as his own blood if it were Gunnar's. Gunnar, however....How could anyone say something like that? About a babe? Especially given how they'd been raised...Look around you, fool, and understand.
"I think he should flayed, like a roati." Sylvirah answered almost a little too calmly. "Cut off his limbs, cut out his tongue, gouge the eyes, peel the skin and soak him in salt. Then hang him to bake in the sun."
He didn't back away; if anything Gunnar's rage had pushed him further and further into madness. The iceling moved forward bit by bit until Sylvirah's words pushed him over the edge and he charge, sword raised to attack Zyphire.

As much as the idea of torturing Gunnar for days on end tempted Zyphire there was no hesitation to just finish things when the man rushed him. "Of course this would be the strategy of a man who thought murdering a whole village was an answer to his problems." Quipped Zyphire as he waited until the last second to move, the sword blade cutting the air next to him and nicking a portion of his skin. While the blood froze on Zyphire's neck the Shifter had instead raised his own blades to gut the iceling, so that when Gunnar stopped moving the realization had him freezing and slowly tumbling into the snow. Gunnar's sword fell and his hands twitched towards Sylvirah as his body rolled into the snow, his final curses falling on deaf ears as Zyphire turned away. Rage had blinded him and in his own stupidity he had thought that the Shifter had frozen out of fear from his charge, but Zyphire was a precise swordsman who was willing to risk some of his own skin to finish things quickly.
Zyphire pressed a hand to his neck, blood showing between his fingers, but he made no show of it when he faced Sylvirah. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to take that from you." He admitted with a soft expression, "Not that it was any less satisfying for me but still...are you alright?" In the distance everything had gone quiet as the fall of Gunnar had signaled the end of the fighting, the villagers either chasing off or killing the last of the mercenaries. Now it seemed that they could truly rest...at least until the winter winds came for them, but already Zyphire had an idea for that which he had worked on during his stay in Zidel.
For now though maybe some rest would do them good...and bandages...most definitely some bandages.
