Virell seemed just slightly flustered and tried to smooth out his shirt to distract himself.
"It wasn't you I was mad at, it was the situation. I knew you hadn't...I knew it wasn't your fault. It's just, this is such a cut throat job and I worked so hard, and...I mean, it's not your fault you were young, and handsome, and new, and sweet, and--well, perfect."
Not that it was easy for Virell to admit, whether they were dating--no, engaged--or not.
He rested in his arms, seeming to find strength and peace there.
"...Thank you for always saying such kind things about me," he said, resting his head against Eric's shoulder. He closed his eyes and drew in a steadying breath. "I don't always think such things about myself. But it means the world to hear you say them. I regret how things happened back then...but I don't regret this outcome. Thank you for not letting me chase you away."

“I was just new blood, Virell.” Eric soothed, nuzzling him gently. “New blood that they wanted on their side. I think I’ve learned that by now. You’re perfect too, you know. I’ve always thought so...but…” Eric rested close, letting his eyes close for a moment. “I don’t think you could have chased me away after I saw you. I literally thought I had just walked into the presence of an angel...honestly? I’m still not convinced. That such isn’t the case.”
Eric grinned and kissed Virell softly, sighing into it. “You make me so happy, Virell. So very, very happy...and I wouldn’t give you up for the world. I will never leave you, never in a hundred million years.”
It was a vow, and one that he knew he would keep.
For better or worse.
They were going to be married!
