Then he thought better of it. He couldn’t let Jet think he actually enjoyed being here, though that much should’ve been obvious long before they stepped inside.
“Actually,” he amended, opening his eyes to smirk up at Jet. “Thank me endlessly. I like to hear how amazing I am. Tell me you’d be utterly ******** lost without me around to keep your a** alive. Tell me you’ve never known anyone as unbelievably badass as me.”
He didn’t wait around to hear it. Either Jet would snort, roll his eyes, and refuse to repeat it, or he would repeat it, but with a mocking tone of voice.
Or he’d repeat it with complete seriousness and a depth of feeling Aquamarine wasn’t often comfortable hearing.
Aquamarine sat up. He turned to bestow upon Jet one last concession — a quick, barely there kiss against the dark freckle near his left eye.
“You’re taking first watch?” he asked to clarify, standing up and dusting off his pants like nothing out of the ordinary just occured. “I’m going to sleep then. Eat more, but don’t eat all of it or I’ll be forced to b***h at you when I wake up. Not that I expect to get much sleep. ********, I can’t wait to be home. I’d even take the bed in our office over this ******** tent. Wake me up if I’m needed, and for ******** sake, don’t wander off anywhere without telling me.”
