Ganymede’s smile was small and appreciative, the edges tinged with a hope she did her best to suppress for now.
“I believe you,” she said.
Perhaps it was foolish of her. Cybele could be lying, but Ganymede didn’t think so. As things stood now, Cybele had no reason to, except for amusement’s sake, but something about her tone and her bearing didn’t seem to indicate that she was the type for that. Ganymede had been at this a long time. She was fairly certain she could pick out a liar.
She didn’t move. Though she had been the one to approach, she left it up to Cybele to make her exit, giving her the chance to prove her offer genuine.
“I’ll make sure these people get home safely,” she added, “and receive treatment if they need it.”
Maybe Cybele didn’t care, maybe these people were nothing to her, but the fact that she offered to withdraw at all was promising.
