╔═ ✰ ═ ✦ Dancing in the Rain ✦ ═ ✰ ═╗
WC: 388

The rain poured, black clouds blotted out any chance of the sun getting through. Most of the inhabitants of Belrea were sheltering inside their homes, taverns or workplaces hoping that the rain would slow to a drizzle or even come to a complete stop. A young resident of Matori, though she wondered if she was now a resident of Belrea with how long she has been here, was out in this rain. It reminded her much of home, her deep seafoam green hair swirled about her shoulders, slicked by the rain. Her tight fitting dress showed off her curves as she stood in the middle of a street with her head down. Amber colored eyes closed as she listened to an inner tune. Music played within her mind, a tune from her homeland, more importantly… Something her sister would have played.

The fans with her hands snapped open as her arms raised through the rain drops, everything seemed in slow motion for her. Her eyes opened as her head slowly raised. Humming to herself, her arms moving, raising over her head, fans fluttering. Over her head they stopped as her attention snapped forwards. Leaping forward she started her routine. Her steps were precise as she spun and swirls, the water dripping off her hair and fans. Closing her eyes again, Neryssa leaped again landing in one of the large puddles that collected on the ground. Did she care that she had mud going up her legs and across the ends of her skirt? Not in the slightest, the echoing sounds of the rain off the roofs around her added to the music in her head.

If anyone were to stare out the window, they would have thought she was crazy, a woman dancing with a death wish of sickness. But Matori was a place of water and rain and this felt like home. Swinging from side to side, her fans moving through the motions, Neryssa ended her dance half way down the street from where she had started. Not even the least but winded, she turned her pale colored face towards the sky and just stood there, letting the cold water wash away her cares. It wasn’t long after this, sodden and now feeling the chill, Neryssa headed for an Inn to get a room for the night…

”Now that the arrangements have been made, I am starting to worry.” Neryssa said as she looked out over the seas from the window of her room at the inn. She was sitting on the bed as she watched the seabird glide through the air. Some landing on the roofs of other buildings, others turning towards the open waters and vanish from sight.

She glanced towards the Maglardilla that laid on the floor not too far from her. The sitara laid uncaringly on the bed. Neryssa sighed as she looked at both her companions as she turned back towards the window. She wondered just what the Misty Maiden was like. She had been told that it was a ship that sailed the high seas. But just what was out there that could make things complicated.

”What dangers are out there? What might the crew be like?” She started to wonder and worry. Fidgeting with the pink scarf that her brother had given her. The edges had started to fray from use and wear. She worried that someday it would be a useless piece of cloth and a mere memory of home. Shaking her head, she wished not to think of such a thing. There were more pressing matters.

Getting up from the bed, the sitara gave a soft hiss as it was disturbed. The lizard-like creature got up, ambled up to the head of the bed and nested itself upon the pillow. Its bulb-like tail coiled around itself in the process. Neryssa could only giggle at the critter’s antics as little as they were. But then she went on to pace the floor. Surely if she did this enough she would wear a hole in the floor and fall through.

”What if this crew doesn’t like me? What if… Other things happen?” These were questions that she asked her familiars as if they could give her any advice. ”Maybe I should just stay here until I am more comfortable? I don’t know what I should really do.”

Neryssa found herself doubting everything. She didn’t know if she could be that entertaining, especially to a crew of a ship. Weren’t there mostly men on these ships? Would she be the only woman? Hugging herself as she shuddered, was this a bad idea? There were too many things that could go wrong, sure she was one of the water race, but she still liked being on solid ground. She worried also of whatever else might be lurking out there beneath the waves. She had heard tales of large fish with mouths full of teeth. Long serpents that can coil around a ship and break it in half.

Her breath came in gasps as she thought back to the tales her parents had shared when she was a child. Her complexion turned pale at the thought of the monsters, the things that could go wrong.
