Axinite smiled politely again to Jet as he rose, but his attention shifted then to Aquamarine. “Oh. Before you go.”
He reached into his desk and seemed to be carefully going through things. Everything about his desk was organized, so it probably wasn’t any surprise that his private drawers would have been organized, too. He extracted a small black box, opened it to confirm its contents, and then passed it over.
“I’ve had these for a while.”
There was a quietness to his voice as he said it, and he had a faraway look while he considered the box. It took him a second to look up, and when he did, his smile was back in place.
“They’ve been collecting dust, I haven’t used them since I was out going on missions, myself. And, General King might be a fancy title, but the truth is that I spend most of my time doing paperwork.”
There was more to it than just that; he’d done more on the field when he was the leader of the Special Operatives branch. But this was better for him.
“I think you might find them to be of use. You and Jet make a good team. I hope these will help you in your endeavors. Communicate as fast as you can think, but only when you’re sharing one of these each. Take good care of them, please.”
