She shrugged her shoulders, her frown becoming a little more visible. ”Your guess is as good as mine. It was right before I came to travel with you that it started. The snow just wasn’t leaving any footprints. It’s like it would go back to where it was after I took another step.” She tried to explain it, but she still couldn’t wrapt her head around the mechanics. ”I had been thinking about what a shame it was that it was going to get ruined once all the wagons came through.” But it wasn’t like there was a discernible feeling when it happened. It’s not like she felt like an aura or something, anything that made her think it was her magic doing it. It had a mind of its own.

The fire was growing, which was great considering it was getting dark enough that the stars were beginning to shine. Liio felt the chill fill the air and quickly moved to sit near the fire, giving his full focus on his sister who seemed to struggle a bit with this revelation. Had she been holding this in without telling anyone? It's not like dad's side of the family would be able to share...maybe going to Zena would work wonders considering how they were more...refined and settled compared to Tale.
"So you hid your footsteps in the snow?" That didn't seem very scary or life threatening, but it didn't mean it didn't happen. Liio rubbed his very thin, very small beard (which felt huge to him, he'd have to try and shave again).
"Well, every magic user has some sort of teacher, and practices a lot. Maybe you just need to find someone to train you to channel it and learn more about it's potential?"

The way Liio talked about it made it seem like Elna was being silly. It’s not what she did that was worrisome to her... it was that she had no control over it. What if it was dangerous and she couldn’t do anything about it? That was the scary part.
”Yeah, I need to find someone to help. It’s why I wanted to pick up some books first. If I can read about it, maybe I can figure it out myself.” She sat by the fire with Liio and heaved a large sigh. It had been a weight on her shoulders for a while now and she had only begun to process it all. Maybe Liio would be right though, maybe with some training she could just work through it and she would be like every other magic user. She had no reason to think otherwise, but she just assumed that it would feel different.

"Well then, we'll need to figure out the best places to find some books." He said with certainty, before nudging her with his shoulder, "Come on, cheer up. It'll all work out and soon enough you'll be a magic master!"
He leaned back and looked up to the sky, letting the crackle of the fire fill the silence for a moment.
"So what's next for us? We can't keep traveling to see mom and dad...eventually we gotta do our own thing."

Elna nodded her agreement with Liio as he spoke. She would need to find out where to actually buy books on magic. She had always been an avid reader, but it was usually for the more concrete subjects of the world - history, medicine, plants, things like that. And the occasionally story book. But magic books were something she had never noticed if they even were at her typical bookstores.
She echoed his movements, leaning back on her hands to look up over their heads before thinking about his question. What was next for them? Traveling had been a nice break, and she was sure it wouldn’t be the last she would do, but they should have a purpose like he said. They can’t just keep going back and forth between Tale and Zena. ”I’m not sure... what do you think we should do? What do you want to do with yourself? You know... like ‘when you grow up’?” She said the last bit with air quotes. They were already growing up, but she hadn’t actually asked Liio what he wanted to do after they were old enough to permanently move away from their parents.

Wow, what a question to ask someone who really had no plan in mind. Liio let out a huff and squinted his eyes, looking for star patterns he was taught back as a youngling. What did he want to do when he was grown up. He could joke about growing a moustache, but that wasn't really the point of this discussion. Up to this point, he and his sister would joke and tease during their trip, so it was suiting that they'd begin a serious discussion next to a fire under the starlight.
"I've always wondered what there was to the world. With all these new places being discovered...maybe I'd like to visit some of them some day. I know mom and dad didn't go too far...but I'd like to see some things..."

It was true, in the last few years things had really opened up in their world. An entire new continent had been discovered, definitely a multitude of new places to visit beyond what they had seen. Even with the ample amount of traveling they had done up to this point, it was still very limited. ”That would be interesting. I can’t say I really feel like I need to see new places, but visiting other areas occasionally might be nice.”
She had been pretty content with Tale and Zena growing up, and they passed through Sauti all the time. But maybe like Jauhar, they could visit their aunts.

He glanced over to his sister before looking back up at the stars.
"Well, what would you like to do now that you're all grown up?" He asked back, curious to hear her response and see if it was something more interesting than exploring the world. He had a feeling it might have to do with the wild magic issues she disclosed.

Well he had her there. She hadn’t actually given much thought to what she wanted to do either and she was the one who had asked. ”Well... I think figuring out this magic thing is probably the first part. And until I know more, I don’t think I know what I want to do with it. Like what if I can heal people? Or what if it’s just elemental, and it has no use in the grand scheme of things, you know?”
She thought about what ‘figuring out her magic’ even meant and it dawned on her another thing. ”If I need to find someone to teach me what to do, then I guess that’s what I would like to do, even if it means traveling around until someone can help.” She can’t imagine it would be too hard to find someone who uses magic wherever she chose to settle, but finding someone willing to teach may be a problem?

"Elemental magic is helpful. Look at all the stuff they are doing in Belrea. They basically make it their job to use magic to fix their life. And it's not just healing, magic for warmth, protection, all that stuff is important." He quickly reassured his sister.
Then he sat up quickly, "What if someone in Belrea could help? They have that big school there, don't they?"

Liio tried to cheer her up, but it didn’t really sound too convincing to her yet. But maybe... she would have to make the most of it regardless of what it turned out to be, right?
”Mmmm that’s far.” she partially just commented and partially complained. ”I’m not really sure I can imagine being that far away from mom and dad for that long.” Not that her mother was the most compassionate person, or her father the most attentive, but still, they were her parents and she loved them. ”But if that’s where I needed to go I guess I wouldn’t have a choice. I that where you want to visit? You want to see Belrea?” She pointed the question back at him.

Liio was silent for a long moment, before taking a deep breath, "I guess I just see myself traveling, like Tyyn." He said softly, "I love mom and dad, but I don't know if Tale or Zena is where I want to be. When I'm on the road...I'm the most like me if that makes sense..."
He paused a moment, "I'm not sure where I'd go, and I would come back, but I don't think I could stay anywhere. Maybe I'm a lot like mom..." His mom was a traveler, not so settled like their father.
"I think Belrea would be cool, and then maybe that underwater area with all the fish-folk.."

Elna listened to Liio talk about his reasoning and where he would imagine going, and it sounded like something Liio would do. It fit him.
”Yeah, I can see it for you. I think you would like being on the road.” It might not be totally for her, not as a lifestyle, but it was definitely for her brother.

Liio moved to poke the fire, prodding it to build up again and examining the firewood they had left. They'd have some time before they needed to refill it, so he wasn't too worried to rush out into the darkness to grab some more.
"At least for now. I don't know, maybe I'll settle down with a family...someplace where we don't need to travel. Traveling would be fun, but I like the idea of growing up with a big family...someplace around civilization and maybe where it's a little warmer. I hear beaches in Matori are beautiful."

Elna hadn't even given the future enough thought to begin thinking about her own family. It just seemed like such a far away thing to her. Did she want a big family, or even just a family in general? It was an interesting thing to think about.
She stretched her hands out, reaching closer to the fire to warm them. The air had dropped significantly the later it got in the night. "Somewhere warmer sounds nice." She said with a slight laugh. "I bet they're beautiful. I think I would like to see that at least. And Jauhar beaches. I wouldn't even know the difference otherwise."
