"I see the potential to do more, to be more. A desire to grow." Her eyes were alight with a sort of humor as studied him closely. "You have strength, Arnica. But I wonder, do you have the intelligence to match it?" Xyla's head canted to the side questioningly. "I enjoy riddles. So, let's see if you can answer this one. I have teeth but I don't bite. I get cut but I never bleed. I get put on a ring but I'm not a diamond. I get turned but I'm not a page. What am I?"

"Oh, that's not fair," Arnica laughed. "I've heard that one before, I don't even have to think about it to solve it. It's a key, isn't it? Unless you've come up with something a bit more clever of an answer. I like to think I'm intelligent enough to work around some problems, but the answer was handed to me too long ago for it to be fair. Do you always challenge every Senshi you find before giving them a straight forward answer?"

Unsurprised he got the answer so quickly, Xyla hummed and nodded her approval. "You're correct, the answer is a key." She could have made it more difficult and left out one or two of the clues, however, it was a child's riddle and wasn't meant to be thought over too much. What he was looking for was a key and that key happened to be looking up at him as they spoke. "I like to be amused, or intrigued..." the mauvian admitted. Engaging conversations that made one think were most entertaining and were what prompted her to stick around regardless of an individual's faction or beliefs. Senseless topics such as weather or recent breakup were boring and repetitive. Usually used as filler subjects when neither individual had anything to say. "So what you're looking for is a key. Not one that can open a door but rather locked potential. Do you happen carry such an object with you?" The answer was yes, he just needed to summon it first.

He could understand that. Wanting to be pushed, to have your curiosity fed and--ideally--sated. He liked the quest for answers, liked solving mysteries. He supposed she might like something of the same.
"I don't know," he answered a few seconds later, earnestly.
"I haven't found anything really, since being brought into the Court. I've got myself, my uniform. A shard, to summon the wraiths. A compact. Henshin Pen. Whatever I've shoved into subspace, but that's not more than snacks right now. Why, do you have something in mind?"

"The pen is the key to unlock the magic you use. Without it, your magic is kept hidden behind an unseen door." Were he to ever loose it or have it taken away, there would be no way for him to access his powered strength and he would remain forevermore a civilian. "What you seek is held behind another door and what you need is someone like me," Any mauvian would do really; however, she was fairly certain that Order would be less inclined to help him. "Someone who can provide you access to step over the threshold and obtain new abilities and strengths." "Show me yours." Xyla rose from his lap and sat down beside him. For a cat, she was definitely a larger breed and her gaze was almost level with his own.

Arnica blinked as he listened, seeming a bit surprised with the information. "I see," he said, even as it took a few seconds to process.
"...When I was awakened, the Mauvian told me next to nothing. It was pretty chaotic, the whole affair."
His Pen was in his hand after only a second and he presented it to her in an open palm. He didn't seem to mind her size in the slightest; she wasn't uncomfortable and he appreciated her taking the time to talk to him, even if it was through riddles and mysteries.
"...I guess I still don't even know what questions to ask, sometimes."

"Questions only present themselves when the time is right to ask them." It is usually by a casual conversation that a question is triggered. One simple comment triggers a memory or thought that was oftentimes unrelated to what was being discussed. Xyla took the pen from his hand and set it down in the space between them. "Information is only given when it is perceived as being important by the one who holds the knowledge. It seems the mauvian you encountered originally functioned on a need to know and at the time it was perhaps perceived to be irrelevant until you learned to function within your faction and come into your own powers." It did not hurt or hinder him in any way to not know that a mauvian was needed to upgrade his pen. Arnica may have felt a bit lost recently but now at least he knew what he'd need when he felt ready to reach eternal. "I'll open the door and give you what you seek. However, I ask for something in return." They were not of the same faction and while there was a truce between the Negaverse and Dark Mirror Court, nobody would scold her if she walked away.

He said little about the Mauvian who he'd met; he didn't want to throw them under the bus, but he did blame them a bit. If he hadn't had a powered sister at home, he wouldn't have known what to do. He didn't know where he'd be, or what he'd have gotten himself into by now.
But, despite all the riddles and philosophy, she was teasing him with information he wouldn't have had otherwise.
"All right," Arnica said slowly, nodding. "What do you want in exchange?"

"I want to know what's on the other side of the mirror." Xyla stated simply. "Any photos you can show me, or trinkets you can bring back." The Dark Kingdom had its unique crystals, surely there was something he could bring back through the mirror with him to share with her.

Arnica considered for a moment, mulling over the request, but he didn't really see any harm in it. Remarque had said not to trust anyone too much, but this didn't seem so bad--not when new power was being exchanged.
"I haven't really been able to spend much time in there, so I can't get you any of those things now. But...once I can, I will. Maybe, once I figure all of it out, I could even take you in there with me?"
He didn't know how strong he needed to be for it, how strong he needed to be to take someone in and make sure they were safe.
"...Would that work for you?"

She considered his proposal for a long moment then slowly nodded her head. "That's acceptable." Xyla's head lowered and she picked up the pen he had summoned. From her perch on the bench she did a backflip and landing gracefully on the ground beneath it. All four paws and half her legs sunk beneath the snow but between them was a new henshin pen. One of similar color and style with a few detailed changes. "Your new key," she said before jumping up on the seat beside him and next to the warm fire where her little toe-beans could get warm again.

When Arnica accepted his pen back it looked different, but he didn't feel any different. He knew cats were mysterious, that they functioned in strange and unpredictable ways, but he didn't want to insult her by saying that he couldn't really depict any sort of change in himself.
"Oh. Thank you," he said instead, wondering if this was sort of like the way a cat might bring you a dead mouse and be pleased about it.
He looked at the pen, admired the changes.
She'd done something, he just didn't know what.
Instead, he thought he might ask a more appropriate question. He held his pen and leaned closer, opening his hands to get some of the warmth from the flames. "So...I've got the key. Where do I find the door?"

Xyla smiled and just shook her head. He was the door, or rather it was inside him. All that was missing was a new phrase that would turn the key and unlock his potential. "Hold the pen and repeat these words. Arnica Star Power, Make up."

He nodded, it seemed easy enough. And this time, he didn't feel like he was getting into something he didn't understand. "Yeah? All right."
He gripped the pen firmly, repeated the phrase, and--
And...
And...
Waited.
A few seconds passed. A few more passed.
His lips pursed a bit and he tapped the pen a bit, like some magic was going to sprinkle out if he shook it.
"...Did I get that right, or...?"

"Hmm?" Xyla's ears swiveled atop her head in sincere confusion. She rose to all four feet and took a step forward so her weight was back in his lap and she walked over and around him with a scrutinizing gaze. "Curious..." Is he broken? she wondered to herself. "It worked for the corrupt... I assumed the process would be exactly the same." But that's the downside to assume anything, it made an a** out of 'u' and 'me' especially when the one that was confident of the process was, for lack of a better term, wrong. Obviously annoyed that she didn't have all the information she sat down again, tail swaying in an irritated fashion. Her yellow eyes narrowed as she racked her mind of all the information she had read on the Dark Mirror Court. "I don't know." Xyla finally admitted. "Seems you may need to reach out to someone within your Court to assist."
