"It's a good idea especially if you're new to the area." He wasn't about to chastise her for trying something new, but Eurig was a little worried that she might try it again. If he got lost in Tale he knew what to expect, but for a foreigner to go off the path...
"Thank you." He hadn't been expecting the helping hand, but Eurig greedily took the honey. While he'd never really tried dried honey before he was pleased that it seemed to help negate the spice. It was a little embarrassing to be found out like that, but honestly, what did it matter? "It's alright; I'm feeling better now than I was and I've got water."
Settling back a little on the log, the leafling looked over the map again and pursed his lips. "I can show you back to the mainroad if you'd like, but it might be nightfall before we even see it."

When she noticed he was looking a little better she seemed to relax a little and smile more brightly again. "Sorry, I didn't realize it was that spicy." Good thing she kept her sweets on hand to help. The small package was wrapped back up and put away in the small pocket made just for it. Masika loved that her dress had pockets. Her eyes dropped to the map as Eurig said he could lead her back to the road. If it was dark by the time they got there then she would need to find a place to sleep. That was worrisome for her. "I see.. Um.. Is there anywhere like an inn nearby the road? If not then.. Would you mind showing me in the morning?" If he led her back yo the road in the morning then she could travel during daylight hours. Traveling at night was dangerous.

"Honestly? It probably isn't; I'm just more used to blander foods." Eurig had been on his own long enough to lose taste for most things. Some people may have been able to keep up lovely, wonderfully cooked meals while on the road, but he wasn't. The man kept to the bare minimum, and it suited him just fine. "I really did like it though."
Thinking on it he, too, realized the complications in that. "The closest inn would still take a while to get too, and by then...." Well, it seemed like they both understood what could happen in that time. She might get lost again, mugged, attacked by wild beasts...Of course, having her janarim with her would only help, but that wasn't a guarantee. "If you'd like you can always stay here. You can take the tent; I've got a bedroll laid out and enough furs to make it comfortable."

The mention of blander things made her offer him the bread with a slightly worried look. "Its just plain bread, I promise." She had thought about getting the herb bread but opted for the plain since it lasted longer for travels. Since Masika was hardly a fighter she wasn't looking forward to what could happen at night if she tried to travel in the dark. Edaj provided a deturant for other beasts usually but packs or actual attackers not so much. Her eyes went toward the janarim as they stood on the outer edge of the camp with a sleepy look and a lazy stance. It made her giggle a little before she looked at Eurig again. "That's kind of you but I would hate to put you out of your own space. If you think the tent is big enough we can both sleep in it, I have my own blankets and pillow." If not then she would come up with something else. Masika would feel bad if he had to sleep outside because she got lost.

Share a tent with her? Even if it was the more practical solution Eurig didn't like it at all. On the one hand it would be a lot more comfortable than trying to prop himself up against the log, but then again he just didn't feel right doing it. Girls needed their space; if they were invading yours then it was fine, but otherwise they needed room.
"Don't worry; it's fine. I do it all the time when the sky looks as nice as it does tonight." While that wasn't entirely a lie he usually did so back in Jauhar where he could sprawl out on the thatched roof of the family home. Out here in the open wilds of Tale things were a little different. "As long as I've got a blanket and something under my head I'll be fine."

She frowned at him. Her eyes went to the tent then back to him. "If that were the case you wouldn't have set it up." Masika also just realized what her suggestion might have meant to the man and she colored quickly in the face. She hadn't thought anything of it because she'd slept next to her brother in different blankets before. It was too late to save herself from that embarrassment. So she cleared her throat and offered another solution. "I uh.. I have extra fabric in a bag that should be enough to make a small addition to the front of the tent. I can sleep in the back bit and you can sleep in the front as guard if that works better?" It wasn't enough to make a whole second tent but if it was added to what he already had set up it could work for what she had in mind. "I would feel terrible if I kicked you out of your own tent. Its not your fault I'm out here." She probably would sleep well like that either.

"Old habit?" He answered awkwardly. Honestly, what was he supposed to say to that? If my mothers found out that I'd shared a tent with a random woman then- Stopping himself, Eurig had to mentally ask himself if they'd honestly care. If he'd been a teenager then sure, but so long as he was polite then - Stop, just stop. Eurig was a grown man so he shouldn't be acting like this was so strange.
Her suggestion saved him. "We could always put it down the middle, that way if you need to leave in the middle of the night you can. Or we can block it off the other way; whichever you prefer." Either way would work with him, honestly; it kept things modest and respectful. "Once I actually do fall asleep its hard to wake me up so it won't really matter where I crash. If something does happen and you need to wake me up, though, don't hesitate to get loud. I may be a good cook, but guarding is something I can do." He motioned across the cant towards his tent and the rather large shield that sat just outside of it.

She wasn't convinced with his answer due to the awkward tone. Masika didn't say that though. She could tell he was trying to be gentlemanly and it wasn't a bad thing. It just made her feel guilty that he may be forced to sleep outside her own tent simply because she couldn't reap a map all the well. When he suggested that they could put the fabric down the middle so that she could get out if she needed to she offered a smile. "That could work." Knowing that he was a hard sleeper made her giggle, a hand coming up to cover her mouth as she did. Of course she looked at the shield as he motioned to it and her smile softened. "I must be lucky then, to run into a guard in the middle of nowhere." She flashed him a genuine smile if relief.

"An inexperienced one at that." Eurig finished off his beetroot with one last bite and sat his bowl to the side. "I'd prefer never to use it, but it's there if I have to." Of course he knew how to fight; you couldn't just live in his household without picking up a few things, but Eurig wasn't the battle ready sort. He wanted to know how to use his skills to help others in their time of need, but beyond that...not so much. "So, what kind of person is your mother? Does she travel for work or does she just like to?" With his own meal now finished Eurig pushed up off the log and brought his things over to a worn bowl filled with water where he could rinse it off. Propped by the fire as it was the water was warm, maybe a little too warm, but it helped with the cleaning process.

She smiled and took a small bite of the beetroot. Even the way she ate seemed to scream that she wasn't meant for the outdoors. Masika completely finished chewing and swallowing before she answered him. "Its still lucky of me to run into a guard, inexperienced or not." It wasn't a bad thing, just meant he hadn't had to use the skills he'd learned. That said something for the world they lived in, right? Another bite, this time of the spiced meat and she listened to his questions about her mother. A smile showed as she chewed and she brought her hand up to cover her mouth. Once again she didn't speak until she was done and by then Eurig was cleaning his bowl. "My mother is a different thinking pure Alkidike. She loves her Mother Tree but accepts earthlings and hybrids. She's adopted quite a few earthlings as her own as well. I have a brother, Draven, and he's an Ice and wind hybrid. A sister who is a water and fire hybrid too." There were others but she didn't speak to them as often. "As to why she travels.. It started out with her looking for my dad. He disappeared along with my twin sister when I was little." When she was little it had made her upset to talk about but now it was just an everyday topic.

For some reason it struck him as odd that the Alkidike parent was the one who was traveling. Maybe it was because it was entirely the opposite in his family, but beyond that there was little in comparison. His face dropped empathetically as she talked about her father and twin. As strange as his family was, he was glad to have had them together as long as he did.
"That must have been a lot for a child to endure." Of course it would have been difficult for her mother, but Masika must have had so many questions and to not be old enough to understand..."I'm glad you still have your mother, at least, and your adoptive siblings. Family can help ease the sting of loss, but it never really takes it away." In all honesty he didn't know what to say. Eurig had never suffered a great loss like, but the urge to help was strong enough.

She thought about it as she finished off her own bowl. Masika had had a hard time with losing her twin and her dad at a young age, she'd often thought it was because she wasn't good enough but the reassurance from her mother had put a stop to that. Gaining adopted siblings helped with the loneliness too, something she was sure her mother had done on purpose. "At first I didn't understand and thought it was my fault." She finally explained. "My mother told me it was no one's fault and that things simply happen in life for reasons that only our gods understand." When she was finished with her food she got up and walked over to where Eurig was so that she could wash the bowl. "I am very lucky to have a mother like her. Too bad I don't take after her more. She's a strong fighter and I..." She looked down at herself. ".. Am not."

What was he supposed to say to that? Eurig's heart ached just hearing about the stress such a separation seemed to cause for her and to think she was at fault...No child should have to carry a burden like that. While he understood all too well that life was never guaranteed to be fair he just...wished it could be a little kinder to some.
"Now that I understand." His smile was softer, even a little wistful in his thinking. As he lost himself to memories Eurig picked up an old rag and started to dry off his bowl. "My mothers are both trained warriors and I just...I don't know, I didn't take as much pride in it? Not until I was older. It's a little odd to explain." The bulky leafling sat back on his heels and his smile turned a little awkward. "My family is blended. My birth mother and my father split before I was born, then she started dating an alkidike who already had a daughter and after a few years they had children of their own. I never really thought of it as weird until I got older and I just...never felt like I could keep up, you know? My older sister was being trained by the alkidike, my younger siblings had their own life and I just....I kept trying to be something I never really could be. My leafling mom is a brawler. A real beast." That was enough to bring out a little laugh in him. "And my dad is a scholar, so they both had these different ideas as to what I was going to be and I don't think either one of them pictured me as a bum with a shield."

With Eurig moving to dry his bowl it gave her the space to wash the one she'd been using. Masika didn't seem bothered by the work either. As she washed and rinsed she listened, her eyes going toward him frequently. Learning that he came from a blended family was amazing. His own description of himself made her chuckle thought. Masika wasn't so sure she'd call him a bum with a shield. "You know.. bums don't help others, so I don't think that's an accurate term for you." She finished washing the bowl she'd used and turned toward him and waited so that she could dry it off. "Its amazing that your mother had more than one partner in her life." It was certainly better than her poor mother who had only the one and was so alone. Maybe Masika would suggest that her mother move on and find someone new. "So you consider the alkidike your mother too?" She was curious about how his family worked. "Did she have an idea of what she wanted you to be?" What were his siblings like? She drew her bottom lip in to chew on it slightly. "Your family sounds amazing. The only blended things I can claim are my adopted siblings.. and the little girl I rescued from the sea. She's with my mother currently."

"You'd be the first," He murmured, giving his own shield a sidelong glance. It was bigger than most young shield bearer's weapons, but that was simply because he was also much bulkier than the average beginner. Whether he liked it or not he had the body type for a fighter, and knew damn well how to use it when the time came.
He held his hand out for her bowl, ready to dry it off. "I don't know about amazing. She met my father when she was really young, decided she wanted a kid without thinking about it and here I am." Eurig shrugged his shoulders. She'd been little more than a kid herself, but Ujana was never known for her logical thinking. She was much more impulsive than that.
"Mama Ariya's always been a mother to me. She's just...always been there, so I wouldn't know what else to call her." She and his birth had started dating shortly before he'd been born so Eurig hadn't ever really known a life without three parents. It would seem weirder without the alkidike around than it would having her there. "She raised me the same as her daughter, so I might not look like it, but I can fight just as well as any amazon." From Ujana he'd learned to be tenacious, from Odd came his book smarts, and Ariya gave him a taste of a culture he'd never really belong to.
"I don't think she really had a clue; none of them did, really. I never got a chance to talk to them about it. By the time I was old enough to think about that stuff my sister was gone and someone had to look after my younger siblings. I just kind of...waited my time and went for it when I could."
Hearing the last bit of what she'd said really struck a curious chord in Eurig. "You rescued a little girl from the sea?"
