At first Zadia was so sure Isaia was screaming that she hunkered up into a tighter ball, hands wrapping around her head in fear until...he wasn't screaming at all! "ISAIA! YOU JERK!" Now Zadia was shrieking for an entirely different reason as she popped up from underneath the table, her cheeks nearly as red as her hair. There were tears in her eyes and if you asked they were entirely out of frustration, most certainly not fear!
"I'm telling papa as soon as he gets home! You're going to be grounded for weeks!" Hearing a thud against the side of the house, on the opposite side no less, made her momentarily jump before scrunching her nose. It pounded again, and this time it sounded like whatever made contact was dragging against the edifice of the house. "Ju-just make it stop, Isaia, it's not funny anymore."

Isaia knew he would get in trouble, but it all felt so worth it! He didn't even get defensive, this time, when Zadia immediately announced she would report him to their dad. And no, he didn't feel bad for the prank even if Zadia looked close to tears - it served her right for being so bossy all the time!
"Pff-- haha!!! Ok, ok fine--" He wheezed, not showing even an ounce of fear as he went to the boys' bedroom and went to pull the rope up.
Sure enough, the treats at the end had been nibbled away by aldabuck teeth, and he snickered again to himself -- until--
THUMP!!
He stared at the treat in his hand, then looked out the window again. Huh-- why was--
THUMP!!
With a yell, Isaia scrambled back to the others, face white. "Uh-- I pulled it up but it's still going--"
Of course, he didn't realize that, with his treats gone, Ishtu had begun to smack his horns against the ladder, thinking it would entice his earthlings into returning the treats!

Lioe's eyes were watering, and he sat on one of the chairs to take some calming breaths. That had been scary! But, it wasn't over? He looked over at Zadia, brow knitting. Then Isaia returned. "Both of you stop it," he huffed, pulling his legs up to hug his knees. "I don't like this."

"You don't like it? Do you think I do?!" Zadia snapped, just as close to tears as her brother. They should have let someone stay with them, like they did when they were younger! What if it was someone trying to break in now? Or some kind of of monster that went around and ate little kids?!
"Come on, we'll go to my room! The window's really high so if something tries to get us it won't! Plus, my beds pretty high, we can hide under it!" Standing up, the child started to run out of the room, but paused just long enough to make sure her brothers would follow. "I'm not getting eaten today! If you want to stick around and find out what it is go ahead!"

The youngest triplet squeaked out a nonverbal little noise of agreement, padding after his sister into her room. He should probably be thankful that his sister was still letting him hide with her, considering he'd started this in the first place but...
Well. Thankfully, once he'd followed Zadia to her room, the sound seemed to stop. Isaia lingered, by the door, chewing his lip for a moment. Then - he tiptoed back out, listening intently again.
It seemed to be over- there were no further sounds, beyond maybe the distant bleating of an unhappy aldabuck under their tree.
Phew! "... I think Ishtu's just mad." He admitted, sheepishly, smiling back at his siblings with an innocent and hopeful lift of his shoulders.

Lioe was nearly too nervous to move from his seat. At first, he just hugged his knees tighter and closed his eyes. The realization that both of his siblings were running off was enough to spur him into scurrying after them to his sister's room. Without any shame, he climbed into her bed and curled up under the covers. Peeking out from under the covers, he narrowed his eyes at his brother and sunk back underneath. "No." He was so done! "I'm staying here until papa gets home.."

“Me too! I don’t care if it really was Ishtu this time, it’s probably one of your tricks and I’m staying with Lioe!” Zadia was as firm in her fear as she was in any other aspect of life. Instead of going under the covers, the child got under the bed entirely and passed one last critical look at Isaia before disappearing from sight. He could wander around all he wanted; it would make it either easier for a monster to get him or papa, whichever came first. If they survived this night she’d see to it personally that he got an earful and more!
And in the future she’d pay him back. BIG time.
