The tears welled up as he plucked up chunks of food from the floor. "I was wondering about that," he said quietly. All those letters.. Were they gathering dust then? Had they just been thrown away? Had each letter's arrival made Sol feel bad for being unable to read it? ..He couldn't bear to ask. Once he had all the chunks up he reached his hand toward the fireplace. "Flana, come on here."
Flana had started sniffing the air, having been watching the ruckus since the ladle had fallen. She stretched and wiggled out from under Sev's protection so that she could trot over and investigate what the men were doing on the floor. With an excited whine, she delightedly licked Koril's hand. Mekameko gave a displeased grumble from the shadows of her perch, eyes narrowed in a glare at the zanteer, and Sandstorm looked like he was about to fall asleep, completely uninterested in the matter.
Koril was still absorbing the reveal. To have completely lost his sight.. He looked over as Sol began working on the mess as well, his stomach giving that strained pull. "Everyone finds home easier. Nothing wrong with that." He managed to save a couple bites from Flana and stood to give them to Mekameko, where he took a breath to ease the knot in his chest. "Were you that worried about telling me?"

[9/10]
Sev gave a low whine from the fireplace and whether it was from Flana's departure or her master's distress there was no telling. She lowered her head to the ground, ears back on her skull with a sort of sullen look.
"Terrified," His voice was so small and his eyes, pupil less and already so milky white, were downcast. "I didn't tell anyone, not even my own family. You were the only one, other than my teacher, who even knew it was failing." Sol gripped his towel and sat back on his haunches, taking a unsteady breath in an attempt to keep calm. "I thought if I trained hard enough no one would know...that if my magic was strong enough I could fix things somehow and you wouldn't have to know."
Taking a moment, Sol sighed and stood, turning his back on the situation to go to a nearby desk. For the most part it was covered in a thin layer of dust, as if it were nothing more than decoration, but what he picked up was as pristine as the day they had arrived. When he returned to crouch by Koril again it was with a stack of letters, each still perfectly wrapped, but with the packaging well worn by fingers that had held them dozens of times. "I kept them because I thought...I thought if I did it would be just as good as having you here with me."

Once she realized her snack was over, Flana turned her nose to the floor to lick at whatever the towel hadn't absorbed. She was content as could be despite the tension in the air, and pranced back to nuzzle back under Sev's wing with her head poking out to keep an eye on the boys.
Koril wiped his empty hand along his pants to clear off any animal slobber, keeping his eyes on Mekameko for a minute longer. If she hadn't been there, would he have ever learned about this? Sol just looked and sounded so devastated to have the secret revealed. "Don't be afraid to tell me anything.." The urge to ramble was strong, but he made himself listen again. His own feelings on the matter could wait.
Well, then he turned to see what Sol was referring to, and the letters plus that darling sentiment made him choke back a sob. "You really kept them?" Brushing at his face, he leaned forward to wrap his arms around the other man. "No complaining, just hugs," he ordered.

Sol had expected a lot of things to happen after Koril found out the truth, but...none of them included this. He'd been ready for the same sad sort of resignation his family had met him with or even angry, harsher accusations. Some sort of outburst but physical contact wasn't it.
With a soft, confused sort of smile Sol leaned into the contact and wrapped his arms around Koril. He pressed his head against the others and exhaled slowly. "I missed you so much," Sol murmured. "I wish I could have told you back in Jauhar, but I'm not the best talker."

"I missed you, too." Something was happening that Koril hadn't been prepared for, beyond the obvious shocking reveal. He hadn't truly realized what their time apart had meant. That feeling that kept him wanting to return all that time was satisfied right here... He couldn't help a small smirk. "Don't worry. I'll give you lots of time to practice." He still had his own feelings on the blindness to truly process, but he couldn't help looking forward to learning more.
