Her silver gaze stayed cool despite her surprise at the sudden aggression. Obviously he hadn't been the happiest of people but he had been tolerating her presence earlier so surely she had said something to get under his skin. Was it Yael? Was there something that kept him from going to his home country? "I don't understand. Why not leave then?" Slavery was over and the last time she had checked a Yaeli was never a part of that history. She also doubted he had a family or someone to care for, especially with the way he had selfishly devoured that food earlier. He was alone and acting like a cornered beast lashing out at anyone who dared to approach. Katori's heart twisted in pain but not for herself. If he wanted to speak harshly towards her then so be it, but what type of life had he lived to be like this? Nothing about him looked like it had ever been protected. More than just physical scars. She found herself realizing with each and every word that was flung towards her like a snake's venom.
"It's not like I'm just traveling for shits and giggles." She bluntly replied before pausing with a frown. She had a purpose to find creatures that needed help and to take things to the sanctuary as needed. More than just creatures as well if necessary. She wanted to just help others and grow stronger so that one day she could control the wild magic running through her veins. Yet she had the feeling that the stranger would find such goals ridiculous. Was there no light left beneath all those scars? Was her empathy considered such a weakness? It was a frustrating thought and Katori had to calm the rising feelings that often led to destroyed property. A fist clenched at her side as she shot the Yaeli another look. "Look, everyone has a different story and obviously you have one of your own that may not be happy at all. But if there's someone to help you then why shove them away?" What if she could and would help him? Would that make her such a fool?

Yes, why not just leave? Was she truly so dense? Going out as he was into the desert was asking for a faster death then he'd already been promised in Oba. If he had coin for supplies then maybe he could find a way out, but leaving was far easier said than done. As it stood Finn was just lucky to have the clothes on his back let alone anything protective enough to keep him from burning under the harsh sun. It was a rare day for him to even have access to a few sips of clean water so the thought of having enough to bring with him was laughable.
"Clearly not." Finn rolled his eyes. He was nearing his little alley, but there was absolutely no way he'd go down it so long as she was tagging along. So, instead of turning, he just kept walking. He'd go to the edge of the city if he had to; anything to throw her off his trail.
"You wan to know why? Because when someone says they want to help what they really want is other people to see them helping. It's a good story to walk around with a former street rat, all dressed up and smilin' pretty. Takin' your bags and speakin' proper. The real world doesn't work like that and I'm tired of pretending."

Katori's lips pressed into a straight line. She had always been chastised for her short temper while growing up and was finding it extremely difficult to behave herself the longer she put up with the snarky stranger. "I'll make sure to travel in rags next time to look more legit." She replied with a roll of her own eyes. My bad that taking care of my attire and preventing myself from catching disease is a priority while traveling. The hybrid took a deep breath but the wisp of calm she had gathered escaped in a sharp laugh of disbelief. "Well then I suppose you never met the right sort." Or rather if he had she could easily see him chasing them away with his poor attitude. No pun intended.
"You're rather judgmental, you know that?" She continued, her cheeks flushed with frustration as she studied the guy next to her. "Perhaps it's my turn then to make assumptions. You're the type that would bite someone in the a** for wantin' to honestly help you and then I could see you takin' what you need while leavin' a body in the alley if given the chance. That's how twisted your sense of the world is but I happen to believe that there is some good in this world. I'm so sorry that you've been abused by this life and that things aren't looking up for you but honestly? You probably have had at least one opportunity to resolve something or have something good but you chose to spit on it instead." Katori could easily guess how calloused his heart was despite not knowing his story. She felt bad for him certainly but she mostly pitied his sense of the world and how twisted it had become in his life. She honestly liked helping others out of the kindness of her heart but he made her sound like some sort of show off! Perhaps she had been blessed to have been born in her family but they had all worked hard for everything! They understood that bad things happened and were willing to help out others. But this guy? He would rather bite the fingers first!(edited) [3:07 PM] "You want me to make a show of it?" She continued as her temper rose. Even though there wasn't anyone around, Katori waved her hands up in the air as if to an audience before tossing a golden coin towards Finn. "Have at it." She almost snarled as her fists clenched at her side. "Buy yourself some boots or something and I'll go brag about how I helped some Yaeli in Oba to everyone" Her silver gaze was molten as she took a step back away from him. "But don't worry. I'll be leaving now. I just hope you wake up one day and realize that you can't always bite at others without getting to know them first. If you don't then it may be too late and you'll be something forgotten in a dark alleyway." If he wanted to chase her away, if he wanted aggression then she would give it to him. She had no need to concern herself with some random stranger after all.

There it is. Talking with her was almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. He'd expected her welcoming demeanor to fade away and when it did Finn felt himself full of disappointed resignation. At the very least it had been different while it lasted.
The further he walked the more the city around them started to change. Crowds thinned, buildings rose in height, but not opulence and the over all feeling was one of abandonment. "You're right; that's exactly what I'd do, and I'll do it again." He looked over his shoulder at her, fixing the hybrid with a pointed look. Of course it was a half-empty threat; as mean as Finn could be he'd never intentionally hurt someone who hadn't done anything to him, but the sad fact was they were few and far between. He could probably sell just about everything on her for fast coin and hide her body in a barrel. How many people would care that much about a foreigner to come to this part of the city looking for one?
She was still going off on him when he stopped outside a set of large, solid doors leading to a rundown manor. Despite the appearance outside there was a fair bit of commotion coming from within. He flinched on instinct at the coin, raising his hand purely on reflex. As soon as his fingers touched the gold it melted and fell like sand. A part of him, despite it all, mourned the loss of the coin, but the bigger part of him was just as pissed off as her at the moment. "What's wrong? Don't like hearing the truth? Or do they stuff your ears up North?"
Whether it was her voice or his own that had drawn attention a large, burly Oban opened the door. He looked around for a moment, assessed the situation and stepped outside with a stern look.
"You're late," He growled.
Finn took a breath and exhaled with a sharp huff. "I'm a little bu-"
The Oban reached down and snatched Finn's staff, then pushed the yaeli towards the door. "Get going."
Snarling, Finn stumbled over his own feet and shuffled forward without so much as a passing glance her way. If she wanted to hate him now then so be it; she'd just have to get in line behind everyone else. Once the two were far enough inside the large wooden door slammed close behind them.

"Apparently they're too busy stuffing some Yaeli ears down here instead." Quipped back Katori as she turned on a heel and stared back towards him. "You're the one acting blind towards an honest heart." But what was she going to do? Beg him to let her help him when he clearly didn't want anything? Her stubborn pride frustrated her even more. Why would she look like a fool to prove something to this guy? Ugh! It was even more infuriating to know that she was actually curious about this place and what he was doing here. Katori simply watched as the Oban pushed the Yaeli through the doorway. Why was he? She took a step forward before listening to the door closing in her face. "Bastards." She cursed softly under her breath as she contemplated what it would be like to just set the whole building on fire. That would not be appropriate indeed. Katori just reached up and pinched the bridge of her nose against the rising headache that the whole encounter had given her. She would have had more luck trying her words with a corpse than that guy.
So why did something nag at her?
He was still alive and obviously had been somehow taking care of himself....somehow. Nor was he like a stray perzi who she could just tempt with food and a warm blanket. Katori let out a sigh as she studied the building one last thoughtful moment with regret. Why couldn't she control her temper better? If Taaru had been in her place he probably could have just passed the whole situation away with a joke and not fudge up things like she had. Charisma was definitely not her strength but that just meant she had other assets she could rely on. Should I even bother? What am I even doing? Ugh! I'll think more on this later and just get on with my own life. Katori glanced down at her clenched fists thoughtfully before turning on a heel and walking away.
