Shaowei - Dark Mirror Senshi of Entreaty
Why a grown man had refused to go in to a perfectly good tavern with a perfectly good basement was beyond her. The woman had expressed her frustration several times that morning when the Senshi had adamantly refused to step into the building. He had been in, or so he said, and he hadn't found anything of use. Given she had been in more than once she knew that this was utterly ridiculous and given that they were running out of food again, it was now necessary for her to raid the shelves for further sustenance.
The food in here wouldn't last forever, but she could at least be grateful for the fact that taverns seemed to hold a lot of preservatives and seasoning. Evidently in its prime this place had also served food. Perhaps she would have been better calling it an Inn as opposed to a tavern, was that a better term for it? She'd worry about semantics when she could research it, in short, when she had access to the internet again and felt the need to enlighten herself.
For now, she simply strode into the very same building the man had retreated from and paused to examine her surroundings. Well it was clear that more than one person had been in here already and that wasn't entirely surprising to her. If there was a central hub for useful things then it stood to reason that everyone would wander in and out, but what she hadn't expected was to find an entire pack of cards strewn across the floor in a haphazard manner.
Had someone lost a game?
More importantly, had they always been there?
Given that cards did have the capacity to be a slipping hazard when thrown about in this manner it was unsurprising that the woman bent down to begin collecting them. Suffice to say that she had no interest in tending to sprained ankles, broken wrists and other injuries that she was ill equipped to handle when it could all be avoided by cleaning the cards up. After all it really wasn't hard to collecting a deck of cards and put them back into a pile on the table again, was it?
Perhaps it was this assumption that was to be her downfall, but for a time she made ample progress in her mission to clean up the mess. No more than five minutes in and she had them all haphazardly gathered into a muddled pile on the table. A quick dust off of her hands and she caught sight of their case, something that it was probably smart to put them back in to given people seemed to enjoy knocking things over here and she didn't necessarily want to repeat the whole thing again, and again, and again.
Knowing her luck, she'd break her own ankle at some point if she didn't.
Thus she began to carefully arrange them on top of each other, a neat stack forming until the joker crossed her path and in the briefest of instance something seemed to shift in front of her. A quick glance up and...
"Oh god," she breathed.
Releasing a mirror shattering shriek, the young woman was quick to throw the cards away and bolt, once more leaving a swathe of cards upon the floor. Now she understood why Athalia had refused to come in here again and perhaps it was for the best that she avoided it too. Evidently she and the rest of the village had outstayed their welcome or helped themselves to a little too much jam!

Namielle - The Guardian Cat
Total nonsense.
The Mauvian had decided that both senshi, regardless of what side they were on, had allowed this place to get to them a little too much. She hadn't experienced some of what they had, preferring to remain indoors during the evening for the most part... But she'd heard some of it. She was aware that while she hadn't encountered what they had, it had done something to them and in certain situations it made them a touch more fragile and vulnerable than she was normally accustomed to. With the Dark Mirror she wasn't sure whether this was a normal behaviour, but for Athalia the sudden caution and uncertainy had given rise for concern.
Rather than allow any of her newly adopted 'family' to stand alone and face whatever had disturbed them so soundly, the Mauvian had elected to investigate the matter further. In the end her wanderings had led her throughout the town and she'd sifted through the wreckages of several buildings before finally finding her way to the inn. Signs of other sticky fingers lay here, a mere fact rather than a surprise in the given circumstances, but at first glance it was abundantly clear that nothing was inherently wrong with the building itself.
For all intents and purposes the building was sound, the structure still held and the supplies within it remained secure. The only things that seemed to have been disturbed were several plates, cups and in one particular instance, playing cards. With no indication that anything was horribly wrong the Mauvian padded further into the building to investigate further, pausing briefly to examine each artifact as she went... but nothing 'spoke' to her, nothing piqued her curiosity or gave off a threatening presence.
"Nothing..." she sighed and shook her head.
She swept several of the cards out of her way, knocking many of them under the table where they wouldn't be a tripping hazard. One by one she cleared the 'pathway' through the tables, and with each card flipped she became more and more intent on her activity. It was a peculiar sensation, one in which she lost a sense of time and an overall awareness of where she was and who might be near her. She was drawn in, absorbed and thoroughly engaged until one card swept into her paw and before her something materialised.
It was with a start that she looked up properly to meet the gaze of what was very clearly a beast, horrific eyes, hundreds of them seemingly gazing back at her... and then no sooner had she blinked and the beast vanished, leaving her with nothing more than a joker card within her paw, a card that had been cut and torn in a manner that made it look just like what she'd seen.
Her lips pressed into a thin line as she regarded it for a few moments longer before she made the decision to slide it far under the table and away from prying hands. Short of magic or an errant hand, that thing would stay out of the way and leave others alone. She didn't know what she had just touched, nor what she had seen, but she could appreciate why neither senshi had wanted to remain in the presence of it. Both had seen what she assumed was that thing before and both had been changed by it.
Wherever they were provided more questions than answers and this was yet another moment in which she could do nothing more than file it away for further musing.
Her nerves were not yet shattered though and it was with a disgusted glare towards the now abandoned card beneath the table that she strode away and towards the basement to retrieve some of what Shaowei had been trying to retrieve. Her senshi, her little family, might be struggling as they fought against whatever magic had scarred them, but she wasn't about to let them falter.
Until they were ready, she'd keeep them warm, fed and safe.
Magic cards weren't going to best her, she wouldn't let that happen...

When Lepus first arrived, one of the things she immediately did was check out the houses, both because it seemed like everyone else was doing it, but also because she wanted to see if she could find anything of interest, or anyone if interest, whether it was supplies or information. During her first few days, she had tried simply peering into the windows, whether out of politeness for any inhabitants or not, though that had proved fruitless. After that didn’t turn up anything interesting to her, Lepus had started actually going into the homes like this was a jrpg, though the houses had proved to be empty of people de, assuming anyone ever lived here recently to begin with. Further inspection showed that there was not much in the way of anything of note that had been left behind, not even anything Lepus could see being a save point. There was something of interest, though, in the fifth and final home Lepus checked before calling it quits for the day; a lone pack of cards, just sitting there atop a table. Although not exactly one for card games (except in video games maybe), Lepus was curious enough to get a closer look in spite of that, because why not, really? Upon closer inspection, it seemed like an ordinary deck of cards, minus the part where they had no numbers on them, or at least identifiable enough to where she could tell it was just an ordinary deck, anyway. Idly, she flipped through the cards, pondering as to if she should take them back with her or not, before she stopped at the joker card. Okay, hmm, that was interesting- the design on the joker card almost resembled the monster that she heard was lurking somewhere in the forest. Frowning, Lepus found herself staring at the card rather intensely, as if she was expecting it to be a sort of catalyst for summoning the creature itself. When nothing happened after a very long and awkward moment of silence, Lepus finally put the card down… and nearly jumped when she saw the monster standing before her. Or… not? Just as the teen was about to get herself all hyped up for a fight, the beast was gone in the blink of an eye. An illusion? A trick of the eyes? Lepus didn’t like being toyed with like that- it wasn’t fair for the one who tricked people to be tricked herself. Although not normally one to be unsettled by things like that, the senshi couldn’t help but feel a little… what was the word she was looking for, ‘shook’? ‘Disturbed’ wasn’t really fitting, not when she was the kind of person who lived for jumpscares in horror games, but there was a certain sense of uneasiness that followed the pink-haired girl as she finally (slowly) set the cards back down and backed away, but not before lingering for a moment or two to see if the beast would reappear or not. Humph, the monster may have won this round, but Lepus would have the last laugh! (word count: 518 ) The Space Cauldron claiming a luna-p growth item!!
