A sideways glance at the smaller girl, and he began, cautiously musing. "Just speculative, mind? Well, I'd probably find out where he lives, see who lives there. Wouldn't wanna mess with people around 'im; I'd have no issue with them. Even with jokes, gotta be careful, or you might hurt someone by mistake. Ain't as bad as meaning to, but they're still hurt the same." Even minor slip-ups could be useful, and the boy used it to double down on his mask. Making mistakes was only mortal, and imperfections held the whole thing together.

"Figure out who's where, talk to people, figure out where he sleeps, his schedule, layout... Details. All to leave powder inside his breeches. Same with his stall. If I wanted to dust the cushions of his favorite chair, for instance. Hot, this time of year, an' a big man like him, sitting in the heat? Gonna be sweating pretty quick. But that's in plain view, and has its' own complications." It definitely wasn't pure speculation by now, but attention to detail applied everywhere, to near everything. And he did plan his japes meticulously, just as much as his extralegal activity. It was looked at with a more benevolent eye afterwards, if nobody came to harm. Made less enemies that way too, by and large.

The cheery-faced boy paused to enjoy a few more bites. "All comes down to seeing everything, an' thinkin' it out before you decide to do anything. No pressing need here. This guy, I'll probably leave be." Swallowing, he looked around, then leaned in. The voice dropped low and soft, not reaching past their sitting-place. "Keep a secret? I plan out some of these even when I ain't gonna do 'em. Never know when it might fit somewhere else." There were other secrets, to be sure, mounds of them. This one was baldly true, and safer than others. Besides, while Aelyn might not br able to hide the fact she had a secret, prying it loose was another matter entire.

"Mhm," she said, lacing her fingers together behind her head and leaning back. "All hypothetical."

She appreciated the amount of thought Viltre put into his thoughts, and there was little doubt in her mind that these details were not always just hypothetical. But pranks were pranks. She wasn't a stick in the mud. Aelyn's passions tended to manifest themselves in embracing causes that didn't always sit well with everyone, and within their household, she was more of a contrarian than anything else. She kind of liked it that way.

"Hm, that makes sense. Always be prepared, and all," she said, bobbing her head. "I wouldn't expect anything less."

A thoughtful look crossed her face. "Maybe I'll have to try something like that on..." Her eyes tilted up and to the right as she pondered this. Merle would have been her preferred target, of course, but it wasn't worth the headache. "One of those street rats that hang out near the old tree." Those were the same urchins she tended to get into fights with.

A sagely nod, somewhat marred by the brief mouthful of food displaying the same squirrel-cheeks Aelyn had so recently... Viltre never seemed to do outright serious faces, not without cracking them, giving away the lie with a joke somewhere. "Definitely. 'Cos otherwise I'd be outlining my process on these projects to my impressionable lil' sister. Fillin' her head with all sorts a' thinkin' thoughts. And that'd be wrong."

Moral advice was... tricky. His own compass didn't quite line up with some others, family included. Chewing the last of his portion, his balance shifted to something more thoughtful. Sun-warmed bark scratched at his back as the boy leaned against wide treetrunk. Shade or no, the sunlight didn't need to be direct in order to warm everything. He spared a thought of thanks for the torso-shirt's tailor; this might have proven unpleasant on bare skin. Soon enough, they returned to the matter at hand. This needed tempering.

"By now, all the words are running together, ain't they? If you remember anything, remember this. Ignorance is expensive, an' it's never just you payin' for it. If you pull somethin', or try helpin' someone, know what you're walkin' into, or they're gonna pay for it. My jokes don't always go right, yeah? Should just be me gettin' my head lumped for it, but it don't always work out so." Morality was difficult, true, but the redhead scribe could at least ape some semblance of normalcy there. Aelyn's strong convictions seemed a better marker, anyway. But blind passion too often did more damage than good...

It was a sobering reminder, but one that needed to be said. Aelyn bobbed her head. "I'll remember that," she said, sitting up and raising both arms above her head in a long, deep, happy stretch. "I'm not trying to hurt anyone, just... maybe teach them a little lesson sometime. There's some real bad behavior there that needs some standing up to." And they were urchins. Obviously, nobody else was going to bother teaching them boundaries.

Aelyn leaned forward and untucked her legs from under her, rolling her weight forward so that she was crouching, balanced on the balls of her feet. Leaning her elbows against her knees, she peeped over at Viltre. "Thanks for the lesson, Viltre," she said, grinning wide and toothy. "You got more errands to run, or what?"

The grin had returned, her brother's accustomed cynical touch restored. If she pushed too hard, she would learn. Urchins played by fewer, but harder rules. If worse came to worst, Viltre wasn't above having a 'talk' with some of these kids to keep her relatively whole. "Glad I'm not wastin' my breath. Knowin' one more thing than the other guy is still my favorite kinda magic. Think it's gonna work just fine for you, too."

Crumpling the paper cone in his long fingers, the lanky boy rolled to his heels in one smooth motion, landing easily on the balls of his feet. "Well, there's one or two things what need doin', some people I need to trade with, an' a package what needs pickin' up in a little while. Papa sent somethin' our way, and it's arriving today. Wanna catch the courier before it gets home, deliver it myself." So that Mother dear has no chance to doctor it and withhold letters. The trash slipped into his red sash, to be tossed into the next midden cart passing. Unless she wished to run off and do her own thing, the offer hadn't been rescinded, and Aelyn was free to come along, as she chose...
