With her sister leaning against her she set her hands to rubbing up and down the girl's back comfortingly. Aelyn had a point though. Some of their siblings were just as bad as merle. Mostly the younger ones. Niiemh tried to correct them from time to time but it only got her so far. Especially since there was an age gap that made it hard to connect with them. The ones closer to her age she usually didn't have a problem with.

Her hands stopped their movement when asked if she would keep in touch with her little sister. "What? Aelyn, of course. The only way I wouldn't keep in touch is if I was dead." And she didn't plan on dieing any time soon.

"Hm. That's good," Aelyn said lightly, trying to brush it off and pretend that she wasn't worried about losing touch with the people that she did love. But she hung out with a lot of unloved and neglected children. There was no pretending that she didn't know that there were unwelcome young ones out there in the world.

"I'm looking forward to those days," she said with a smile. It was perhaps an odd thing to aspire to, getting out of her father's house, but it seemed to work for her. "Maybe you should come with us."

She shook her head and smiled. Her sister was something else sometimes. "I can't wait to see how beautiful you are all grown up." Nii hugged her again, this time a little tighter so she could gently prod her in the sides. "Don't grow up too fast though."

It wasn't that her and her siblings were unloved just that they were left in the care of someone with twisted views. Their father was always busy or away on business and as the legal wife Merle had run of the estate. It also meant she was in charge of their education and upbringing. Of course Aelyn was lucky enough to have her real mother around. One of these days they would expose Merle to their father and hopefully that would make things better.

"I will stay until I am sure everyone else is safely away." Nii couldn't leave her younger siblings if they needed her. So far she was the distraction Merle needed to leave them be most the time.

Aelyn giggled. "Oh, you're telling me," she said, ruffling her messy hair with one hand. "Still waiting for a glow up over here." It came with a laugh, because Aelyn wasn't particularly fussed about her own looks. Beauty in the eye of hte beholder, all of that. She believed it, even if it felt cliched.

More important to her was that she grow up to become the kind of person she could be proud of - and so far, she felt, that was going pretty well.

"Well," Aelyn added with a small sigh, glancing up at her sister. "Doesn't seem very fair that you're the one who has to do that." She pursed her lips a little, tugging at a strand of hair that uncurled to reach her eye. "That should be dad's job."

As much as she loved her father, sometimes Aelyn felt baffled by what she thought had to be willful ignorance on his part on matters concerning Merle. Nobody could be that blind.

She let a grin shine through as she heard her sister say she was expecting a glow up. "Oh? I'm sure we can have one right now if you let me dress you like a pretty lady." She was teasing of course but Nii was confident that if Aelyn put the right clothes on she would be unrecognizable. "You might even be able to trick Viltre." Pulling one over on their brother had to be somewhat alluring considering he was the family trickster.

"Mm? Its not? But I'm the oldest girl. Its my job to make sure my younger sisters have every benefit I had and more." She snugged her sister tightly to her and laughed. "You might make my hair grey before then but I shall see you happy. I mean it." While she did agree that it should be their father's job she also knew the man stayed away on business quite often. When he was home his time was spent with Aelyn's mother when he could get away from Merle and her nagging. "Try not to be mad at dad too much, alright?"

Aelyn threw back her head in laughter at the thought. Maybe one day, just for fun, she'd let Nii give her a makeover. "For your birthday, maybe," she said with a chuckle. "Although the better trick might be convincing Viltre to dress like a pretty lady." They'd probably be able to pitch it to him convincingly if they mentioned something about a clever disguise and going about unrecognized.

"Just as long as you don't forget to see yourself happy," Aelyn added in response, hugging the arm that Niiemh had around her and nuzzling her cheek into it. "And... yea. I try not to be, but it's hard. He means well, but I wish he'd open his eyes." Right now, it was easier said than done. But one day, Aelyn would be out of here. She'd be an adult, no longer beholden to this house, and then... well, then she'd have plenty to say to their father.
