with "Emerald Eyes," by David Arkenstone
My name is Zeeg (Sigilinde) and I am privileged to be the daughter of the Wolter's of Belosh, Ben (Bruno) and Tori (Victoria), and the younger sister of Krie (Kriemhild, kreem-hild). We have lived in the same house in Belosh since I can remember. It is up on a hill with a nice view. But today my sister and I moved out to live in Sanctuary together. I have come full circle from when I was born and adopted here. For that reason I decided it would be a good idea to reflect back on those days so many years ago. I have a brand new journal to commemorate our new life of independence! Our new home in Sanctuary is a single room home.
But enough of that. My goal tonight is to write about our past...
When I was a toddler, I was cared for by someone named Rhun. Or, he was responsible for us. I think it was like a teacher-student relationship. I don't remember it very well but I do remember that there were other metas with me under this care. (It turns out that he is the headmaster. Wow! )
I remember the call from prospective parents coming to look at us. They had visited before then left to think about it and discuss who they thought would be a good fit for their family. So there was more than one of us hoping to go home with them. But during the call, Rhun kept looking at me and I knew in my heart that I was the one to be chosen. But which family would I be going home with? No one said.
The other children gathered around me. My friends or relatives, however you want to call it. We were created together and lived together for that short time. I wish I could remember them. Who were they? Who did they become? Would they remember me if we met on the street today? Would they want to know me now?
The couple of that time whom I would learn to call "parents" are now vague in memory. It was their daughter who caught my attention. She was older than us by a couple of years. She had a better command of language and cognition than us metas. She was brilliant and clever, blonde with deep blue eyes and a pink dress that moved as much as she did. When she twirled, the skirt took on a life of its own. I remember all of this because I was so dazzled by her presence. She was the one who gave her item to me.
"I give you this ring. It is a twin of my own. When you take it, we will be sisters forever." She said something solemn like that and showed me her ring. It was too large for her finger so she wore it with a chain around her neck, but I knew she would someday grow into it. Then she gave me mine, and I became Sigilinde Wolter, far better known as Zeeg. And she had my heart, beating and fluttering like a firefly caught in a jar.
What else? I don't remember much else about that day. The adults filled out the last of the paperwork and we were bored, so we played a hand clapping game that I don't remember. Rhun gave me a hug because I was crying and I got his shirt all wet. Then we went home, this being my first time to use the teleportation system, traveling to Belosh. Our home was huge to me, and I remember many snippets of the adventures we had there over the years.
It is getting late. The memories I have written tonight are so precious to me. I will try to describe more about my daily life back then next time.
