- ★ Character
- An older noul, Noir is your stereotypical gruff detective type minus the historical misogyny of the genre which is instead replaced with a blanket minor distrust of most folks instead. He places a higher power in facts, logic, and science over magic and is even loathe to use his own when there are other means available. This isn't to say he's against the restoration of the world, of course, but this noulicorn prefers to spend his time learning than healing and rails against the implication that he is a slave to the Grandfather Tree and nothing more. Knowledge is power, and he craves it in all its forms.
To be fair to Grandfather, he dislikes the idea of working in a group, period. Noir doesn't like the variables introduced with unknown subjects, so to earn his trust is an ordeal. His problem, he deals with it, right? Thankfully, he's less sociopathic and more just...awkward if forced to be personable, as he's very private about his life outside of work. He'd much rather know about a creature's abilities and skill sets over their favorite food and aspirations and often gives the same in turn. Information for information. Connections are everything, and these invisible strings are easier to keep track of than whim and whimsy. A neutral party when it comes to other species, Noir can at least put aside his suspicions of others to work with whoever is willing to hire him - or join him, if that's even possible.
Nothing gets his attention like a good mystery. What did the Others do? What is their technology powered by? His family taught him what little of the script they figured out, and he has since continued to parse through the old language with help from various contacts. His nose for lost things and eye for detail aid him in his job as a detective and investigator, be it a strange occurrence or a mundane theft. One could almost call his job his lover at this point, as little else gives him satisfaction in solving the case. The search, the need to answer questions and find new ones: to Noir, this is just as important as any magical ability in regards to healing Vykeli.
