As luck would have it, Z'tir took note of the clump in time to warn one of his riders, and as the dragon carried his rider away, Siloth charred the thread.

Emerging from between, the wind smacked W'ill and Faloth around immediately. W'ill was grateful that Faloth was a brown -- any smaller dragon was surely going to be tossed around. Suddenly W'ill spotted another brown, Venadith from the look of them, getting pushed toward a writhing mass of Thread. Faloth, go! he ordered, but Faloth was already swooping around and flaming the Thread to ash. W'ill gave the brown's rider Zyamel a salute before he and his brown wheeled away to attack more Thread.

As Faloth wheeled away from Venadith, the wind shifted and blew a clump of Thread right into the dragon's left side. "Aaah, jump!" W'ill cried, the pain of the Thread chewing into his left leg echoed by Faloth's pain as the Thread tore through the brown's left shoulder. The cold of between relieved the pain, but W'illl knew they would both need to be looked at once this was over.

Below us--
R'aum didn't even get to finish his thought before Modrioth swerved to avoid the updraft--and more importantly, the clump of thread that it was carrying. He twisted around to catch it in his flame, giving it no chance to fall any further.
...you were saying?

R'aum rolled his eyes, but he had to commend his dragon on his quick reflexes. They'd been lucky to notice that before it did any damage--it could have been a very painful wake up call otherwise, and he wasn't planning on coming out of this with any new scars for either of them.

Jynnat and Begath came out from between. Right away they started having issues; mainly from the wind and Begath trying to plan out stunts. She spotted a sheet falling right in front of them Get it! She coaxed. Valiantly try as he might, the wind pushed them and the Thread away from each other. Blast it all, its getting away! A quick hop between should do the trick! Except it didn't. They came out and the blue let out a squeal of pain as it wrapped around his wing instead of burning to char. A quick skip saw it frozen. Ugh! Are you ok?


Round 1: Hour 1 Rolls
1. 2: A clump of Thread falls right before you! Unfortunately, the wind pushes you and the Thread away from one another. With determination, you fight the wind, trying valiantly to get to the great enemy! You hop Between, hoping to get closer, and flame the Threads that threaten to fall through! Roll a D4 to see if you successfully Between!

1. Failure! You Between right INTO the clump! Too close, too close!! Ouch! Damage is Moderate! -5 HP
2. Success! You appear close to your target and are able to flame it down successfully! [+1 Between Accuracy]
3. Light Scoring! You get too close to Thread and some of it winds up tangling up with you. Ouch! Quick, Between again! Minor Damage -3 HP

W'ill and Faloth emerged from between only to find themselves flying right into a massive wall of Thread. Faloth bellowed in pain and W'ill screamed as the Thread tore through them both, sending them between again. This was not going well...

Day 1
Roll 1: -4 HP, wing pull


Fighting thread really was just another day another mark for D'ast and Zetigeth. Of course they worried about their mates and their children, but really it was just who they were at this point. It was life, it was what a High Reaches rider did and was programmed for. He and his brown would fight to the last beat of their wings if they had to and go down burning.

Maybe that was why neither of them really flinched too badly when they leapt into the fight and were immediately blown roughly by the wind. Zetigeth growled roughly and fought against it, a muscle twanging in pain somewhere near the base of his right wing. He'd worry about it in a few hours.

As if the first time wasn't enough, straight away they came upon another clump of thread. Instead of flaming it as they should, the wind tossed them apart. Another trip between brought a blue tail right into the path of thread. Begath took them between to freeze it off. Jynnat cried with him as they came out with Begath whimpering. Take it easy. Is it bad? Should we go back? She tried to look behind them to assess his tail.

They hurt, but they are minor. I will survive. Alright lets keep going. Any more of this and we'll take a rest at the weyrbowl. But we just started! I know.

The constant onslaught of wind and thread was starting to wear on Modrioth, though, and despite his confidence at the start of the fall, he could feel his muscles burn more and more with every beat of his wings. A sharp gust wrenched him out of formation, twisting him painfully in the process--all he could do was hiss his frustration as he finally regained his stability far out of formation. As soon as they leveled out, R'aum sat up just a touch, doing what he could to take stock of the situation.
Take it easy. Please.
We can't. Even his mindvoice sounded tired--truly, Modrioth didn't care about his presentation right now. The only one who was allowed to know was His. We have work to do.
I know. But-- R'aum's brow furrowed, knowing full well what Modrioth's tone meant. We can't do anything if you're too tired to even move, okay?

Emerging from between again, Faloth roared his rage and defiance at the Thread which surrounded them. He spewed forth a massive flame, perhaps the largest he had ever flamed, and once more roared as he charred the Thread in front of them, giving them a way clear. W'ill too let out a defiant roar of his own as his dragon charred the silver menace.

I can do this! The blue stoked himself up. Spotting another likely clump of Thread he powered towards it. Except the wind had other ideas. I'm gaining! Begath pumped his wings hard. No you're not. A quick jump between and Begath came out flaming. Except the Thread had wrapped around his other wing this time. He let out a squeal and slipped between. A quick return, and Jynnat assayed the damage.

That's it. We're going back and getting you patched up. Let the wingleader know. Yes mine, the blue said meekly. Siloth, Mine says we are going back to the Weyr.
