"Eh, hobbies are always healthy to have," he smiled and gave a non-committal shrug. To be quite honest he'd be in much the same position as her, if he were to take on anything else he'd never sleep. Given they both needed a healthy dose me-time to keep their heads clear there wouldn't be any softball in his own future either; at least not professionally anyway.
However when she asked her question he pursed his lips gently and regarded her. His expression was a touch more serious, though hardly grim, as he seemed to consider her query. In the grand scheme of things he had schooled children from around the time they could waddle with any form of coherence, right up into their teenage years and he hadn't seen any negative consequences yet.
...If anything they were some of the most balanced kids he knew.
"Everyone, regardless of who they are, should always know how to defend themselves," he said at last and he genuinely meant it. Even if he'd been stopped in the street by a stranger he would have said the same thing. Powered or civilian, it was always a good idea to at least know the basics just so that you stood a chance.
"Even if it's just learning how to throw a punch or a kick so that you don't break your own fingers or sprain your own ankle," he pointed out. Even in his civilian life he'd seen enough bar brawls to know how some of those scuffles turned out and the amount of grown men who seemed stunned that their fists would end up in pieces because of poor form was quite high.
"That bit isn't even that hard either," he added with a smile. "Now if you want to be a ninja turtle in your free time then it'll take a little more work, but the basics aren't bad so long as you practice," he finished.
There was a brief pause and then he coughed.
"As a disclaimer I'm not a ninja turtle, just in case you were inclined to ask."

His words, combined with the seriousness in his delivery of them, had Virginiaterese nodding back as though he were a sage granting her the wisdom of the universe. Yes, yes, it made perfect sense and it would obviously be of a benefit to her learn, but the question of exactly how she would was still standing. She didn't know how she would explain a sudden interest in martial arts to her family, but it wasn't impossible for her to keep it a secret either. She mulled this over silently before, once again, breaking out into laughter.
"Pffft, I'd think you'd have some kind of shell to hide in if you were." She exclaimed, covering her mouth as she laughed. She understood what he really meant, of course. If she wanted to learn more than the basics, then she'd need dedication and discipline. It was basically a rule for almost anything in life. "Though, if I were interested in becoming a ninja turtle, per say, where would you recommend I start looking? I'll obviously need someone to teach me."

She was a good humoured woman wasn't she?
"Well depending on what sort of art you want to learn you can look in to visiting various schools or dojos," Athalia suggested, holding his arms above his head in a tall stretch. All things considered his quiet day had turned into something more interesting, although he would have to be mindful that eventually his partner would start looking for him and he would have to return to his post.
"If you intend to learn this while you aren't in your pretty costume then... I can suggest one, you can take those classes if you'd like," he continued. He'd of course offer his own dojo for that, she'd be more than welcome in the classes he took and she'd be around those of a similar level to her. However, when it came down to it, if she intended to use that particular skill set in this line of work then she'd need to have a little more at her disposal than jut punching her fellow classmates.
"However for everything else like this," he motioned to himself. "I can probably help with that," he admitted. "I don't think you'll necessarily get everything you need by just going to those classes," he conceded. Even he had realised he'd needed to put considerably more training into his own form when he'd become this. He moved faster, he hit harder and as a consequence his muscle memory had been a little off.
"We move a little differently when we're powered up so you might as well practice on someone who can take the blows." he chuckled. "You'd most likely end up in my classes anyway, even if you stepped into that Dojo," he explained with a wry smile.

”I see...” Virginiaterese said, a hand moving to her chin as she took in all of the information he was explaining to her. On one hand it made sense to learn via classes with others of her skill level, but, on the other hand, what she felt like she truly needed was to get as much practice as she could while powered up. After all, when was she really going to need to fight outside of senshi related activities? ... Except maybe for personal protection. But couldn’t she just apply the same knowledge even when she wasn’t powered? She furrowed her brow as she mulled it over before clasping her hands together in a decisive manner.
“I think if I’ve learned anything from my experiences today, it’s that I need to learn more about fighting and grasp for any opportunity that comes my way.” She reasoned, offering Athalia a nervous smile of her own. “I hope you don’t mind me being so direct, because I know we’ve only just met, but because you’re so experienced and also a senshi... Would you mind maybe...” She rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. Oof. Her nerves were really of the charts today. “... I don’t know, sparring with me sometime? Giving me some pointers? I totally understand if you say no!” Epine de Rose I think we could wrap this one up soon and start another one for sparring if you’d like? 8D

"Heh," he should his head, a half smile on his lips. Forward or not he was glad to be asked. He normally had to persuade others to take the plunge when it came to learning this sort of things and if she intended to leap in without any water wings then he would make sure he was there with her.
"Forward or not I have no problem teaching someone how to use their natural talents," he reassured her. Granted he didn't know if she had any natural talent when it came to martial finesse but she had managed to smack things with a fair level of competence when challenged. He had a good feeling about this one and with enough practice she'd have no issue giving most Negaverse agents a run for their money.
"Though I won't go easy on you," he smirked. "If you want to do this right then you're going to have to bring your A-Game," he pointed out.
Nevertheless, he was aware of the amount of time that had passed (short as it had seemed) and it would have been enough for him to be missed. With that in mind he motioned back towards the farmer's market where she could probably continue with her shopping without further issue now.
"But if you don't mind we may have to walk and talk, I'm supposed to be working and I've been a little off my actual patrol path for a bit longer than I can probably get away with," he admitted. "Can add yourself to this while we go," he added, holding up his rather dated senshi phone that was clearly in need of some TLC from a Mauvian. Bouquet of Diamonds Sounds good. <3 I can start that one if you want.

Natural talents? Heh, Virginiaterese wasn't so sure she had anything like that to offer him. She would certainly bring her A-Game as requested, because she was serious about working as hard as she could to get better at fighting, but any talent she could have would surely need to be developed. She nodded along and took the phone, carefully, as prompted.
"Oof, I'm sorry I took you away from your patrol!" She said, making yet another regretful face. She'd make it up to him somehow, either by hard work alone or offering him something nice. Her mother did always say that a free meal could work wonders for a relationship, but she'd save that offer for if she truly screwed something up down the line. She tapped in her info as best she could with the outdated phone and offered it back to him as they walked. "I'd better go see if my basket made it through the chaos unscathed, but thank you again for taking the time to help me! I'm looking forward to learning all I can from you!"
She hopped a step outward and bowed out of respect, then waved with a smile as she took off for where she'd left her shopping basket. She stumbled as she went but managed to right herself before she fully disappeared out of sight and powered down. Her basket was still right where she left it, but a blueberry pie would need to be found elsewhere. She didn't think anyone would be coming back to the market today, not after such an infestation. And she was off! It hadn't been the most graceful of exists but much like her little bird she'd left in a rather endearing fashion. His eyebrow rose just a touch as he unceremoniously tossed his phone back into the space pocket he tended to store all the other bits and pieces he'd had 'gifted' upon him since he became this way.
She'd be an interesting one to mentor; she'd either be as woeful as Dory (unlikely), or there was a genuine risk she'd be a real natural and smack him a lot harder than he might necessarily be prepared for. It was, therefore, in his best interests to cater for someone who could probably do some damage and if she couldn't...well then he'd count his blessings.
He gave another final check of the area for any signs of remaining Youma,, but with neither energy signal nor sound to give them away, it seemed like their visitors would not be returning any time soon.
By the time he did return to the market it was evident that he had been missed, but given his own partner's penchant for wandering off without warning during these quieter routes, he wasn't pressed for where he might have been.
Hopefully his new acquaintance's basket would be found intact as well, if he remembered, he'd be sure to ask about it the next time they met...
