Aletheia snapped back to attention and immediately blushed. Oh, her? Smart? Where in Destiny City had Sylvite been hiding? Honestly, any more praise and kind words about her and Aletheia might just have to bake Sylvite a five layer cake. Why couldn't all officers be as fun, energetic, and nice to her as Sylvite? She took a breath to try to calm herself.

"Thank you, thank you." She laughed, waving her hand in an attempt to look nonchalant. "But even if I am right, we've still got to find them! I'll bet all of the other fairies are trying their best to keep her hidden with magic. We may need some stealth on our side for this mission."

The mention of golden fishes and leprechauns set her back to thinking. That was a point, there were many supposedly supernatural or fantastical things that could grant wishes. Fairies weren't the only magical things out there. Next, she fully expected to start hearing about unicorn sightings and encounters with vampires. Anything, she was convinced, was possible from this day forward.

"Huh, I..." She began, caught off-guard by the question of her wish. Her first thought went to the obvious. Money. Just enough to never have to pay rent again. Then a brand new set of stand-mixers, maybe a new oven, an endless supply of craft supplies... There were many things she needed to keep herself afloat as a civilian. But, it wasn't lost on her that a wish for more power as a senshi would be equally as useful. Then again, earning that power and recognition was so much more rewarding. She tapped her chin. "I... Think I'd wish for more money, or some things I've been saving up for but can't get just yet. How about you? What would you wish for if you could have anything you asked for?"

Sylvite couldn't help a little giggle when the other girl got all blushy and flustered. It was just, like, fun being around someone who didn't think she was stupid for getting really into her investigations and for trying to be nice.

Aletheia was probably right about the fairy queen getting hidden, too. Although she had shown up before. Huh. Sylvite nodded, although a little slower this time. "Yeah, or she might have gone home," she said, gesturing into the empty depths of the darkened garden. "Like I said, the super supernatural stuff doesn't usually stick around too long."

She had a theory brewing about parallel universes and times when the walls between worlds got thin, also inspired by the books she'd used to read, but she kept that one to herself for now. It needed more evidence before she could prove anything. She started chewing her lip. "Unless that just means they don't wanna deal with people and they're really, really well hidden?" Aletheia was smart! That would probably be easier than going to a whole other universe.

She got really quiet for a second when asked about her wish. "I was thinking magic," she said. "Like, real magic, not just what the officers get. Senshi magic, or maybe even something stronger." She loved her magic knives, she did, but sometimes she wanted something a little more special.

"But yeah. Money would be really nice, too." If she could get through college without tons of debt and move her family out of their crappy apartment, that might be worth trading magic for.

Aletheia is such a cutie! I love her!

Aletheia nodded along slowly. Yeah, Sylvite was probably right, on both points actually. The fairy queen and her entourage either headed straight for home as soon as they were discovered, or were biding their time somewhere nearby until anyone bold enough to search for them decided to give up. If the latter were the case, it was possible that she and Sylvite could coax them out somehow. ... The problem with that idea, though, was how. She'd have to think on this.

"Oh, uh-" She began, slightly shocked at Sylvite's response. Sylvite would wish for senshi magic? Really? She looked down to her hands subconsciously, flexing them in thought, and carefully considered her reply. Yes, senshi magic was pretty cool. She could basically make people hear voices that talked smack about other people they knew for short periods of time. She supposed that was powerful, but she always found herself longing for more. Her lips puckered and relaxed.

"Senshi magic can be kinda... Weak at first?" She explained, moving her hands in a circle as she spoke. "Like, yeah, what I can do is pretty cool. It's just not where I want to be yet. I want to make people squirm more and, you know, blurt secret stuff out while they're trying to fight me. It would be so much more useful to our fight against the order if I could do that."

Her shoulders tensed a bit after she finished speaking. God, she felt like such a Debbie-downer for saying that. So not the mood she wanted to go for here. She cleared her throat.

"Not... That it's not something you should ever want or wish for." She continued, adding a laugh. "... But, money. Do you know how many more cakes I could make a day with a few more trays and a new mixer? Like, twenty. Easily."

Oof, okay, now she felt like she was talking too much about herself. She had to get back to focusing. They were looking for fairies. She turned her attention back to scanning the bushes.

"Speaking of cakes, though," She said. "If the fairies are hiding out here somewhere, maybe we could bribe them with something sweet?"

I have the EXACT same appreciation for Sylvite. ; A; They should honestly team up to fight sometime.

Sylvite straightened to her full five feet, trying to look a little bit more like a professional Captain. "Don't worry. You're not missing out. Lieutenant weapons are kinda crap at first too. They're toys, or like, lollipops." She summoned her knives and turned one around so the other girl could see where the handles were still swirled like candy. "That was mine. Cute, but not the best when someone's trying to hurt you."

She flipped it back so that the blades glinted in the low light. "Now I have these, which are super nice in a fight, I don't wanna trade them or anything, but like," she cut off and chewed on her cheeks some more as she tried to figure out how to phrase it, which brought the attempt to look professional to a halt. The senshi never seemed to understand how cool they were, or how good they got it.

"You know who else has knives? Like, half of the Captains in the Negaverse. You guys get to have like, rumors," she glanced back over at Aletheia's gorgeous outfit, with the swirls and flowers, a weirdly wistful look in her eyes. "Or like, mood swings, or flowers that can stick people in place. It's always something different and awesome."

It was always something special.

Sylvite caught herself starting to sigh, realized she was starting to sound jealous, and then shrugged instead and smiled a little too hard.

"I guess the knives are already magic, though. It'd probably be more useful to get out of debt if I had a wish to spend." She leaned in towards the other girl again. "Okay, I approve, but like, how are you gonna eat twenty cakes in a day?" The grin softened into something more natural. "Can I help, or are they all gonna be for the fairies?"

Aletheia had a point about luring the fairies back out. If they liked festivals, it probably meant they liked food, right? Luckily, Sylvite also liked sweets. She gave the pockets in her shorts a quick search before frowning and looking back up. "Yeah, we might have to make something. I think I ate all my Oreos."

Bouquet of Diamonds
Yesss that would be great! Or they could attempt baking?

Aletheia's lips pulled into a rather awed little o shape as Sylvite summoned her knives and turned them around. Oh dang, those were not only flat out adorable, but they were super fashionable! Look at how well they matched Sylvite's uniform! Look at how sharp they looked! God, she was tempted to ask if she could hold them. She'd restrain herself for now.

"I'll bet no other Captain in the Negaverse has a pair of knives as cute and killer as yours, though." She said, folding her arms and nodding affirmatively with her statement. "... Though, seriously? Someone has powers that relate to moods swings? That sounds like a senshi I should try talking to. Could you imagine the amount of gossip you could claw out of someone while they're too angry to control themselves? It would be like winning the lottery... If they don't just straight up attack you instead, I guess."

Come to think of it, getting someone stuck in a flower and then messing with their head was also a very worthwhile option, but it didn't sound as much fun as toying with their emotions. Plus, she was still fairly new on the scene as a senshi. Who knew what she could do when she got stronger? ... Maybe Sylvite was right, then. Senshi magic was pretty badass when you put it in perspective. Senshi power combined with knives like that, though, she could venture to say would be even better. She pouted in thought. Man she really did just want to hold those knives, dangit.

Sylvite's comment about the cakes then distracted her from her musing and sent her nearly doubling over with laughter. Her? Eat twenty cakes by herself? Yeah, no. Her stomach was no match for that much frosting! She wiped her eyes.

"No no! I would make them so I could sell them!" She laughed, taking a deep breath. Any more and she would have been winded! "I do a lot of bake sales around the city and split the profits. I used to do a lot of charity sales for school and realized how much I loved it, so I've made it my living. There's no way I could eat twenty cakes all by myself, not even if I had an iron stomach!"

She paused to compose herself and also take a moment to dig through her own pockets. The sides of her skirt had enough room just for her phone and other things she wanted to keep on her, but were unfortunately out of snacks at the moment. She turned one inside out and made a face. Yep, all cards pointed to no in this endeavor. They'd have to look elsewhere for bait. She turned back to Sylvite with a shrug.

"I think you're right." She sighed. Man, Oreos sounded good. Now she wanted Oreos and funnel cake. ... Wait, what about an Oreo flavored funnel cake? She'd be experimenting with that idea later! "I don't have any money on me right now, but we could go and regroup somewhere else and make something? I'm not sure what kinds of sweets fairies would like, but the internet has to have information about it. It's the fountain of all knowledge, basically."

Sorry for the delay! We lost power and only got it back last night, BUT YES. Yes, to trying to bake! This is kind of a side note, but I've always thought that it would be cute if Aletheia tried to bake specifically for the negaverse. Like, one day just... Show up with a trove of cupcakes and other baked goods and, I guess, hand them out somewhere in the castle??? IDK if that's even possible, but it's something she'd try to do.

If we have them try to bake something, would you like them to meet up again and have them share civ identities? I'm asking because I think Mariposa/Aletheia would straight up invite Sylvite over like "HEY. Wanna try baking for the fairies at my place??? I've already got like... Ten recipes we could try???"
PostPosted: Tue Aug 11, 2020 9:52 am

Sylvite nodded just as intensely as she had when she'd been talking about the fairies. "Yeah. Chrysocolla. She's the Senshi of Moods. She's really cool," she said. "She did a bunch of my training when I was new because my first general was kinda a deadbeat."

The intensity that Sylvite had shown towards everything so far that night was gone, just for a couple seconds, as she thought about her old friend. She was quiet, and she looked out into the distance even though she wasn't really searching too hard anymore. It had been a good time, back between when she'd gotten her powers and when everything had fallen apart and she'd realized she was kinda just a kid in a full-on war.

"She got busy with some new team eventually, but yeah, her magic's awesome. Scary, but awesome." Back in the day, Sylvite had always wanted to see what senshi magic did for herself, even if it did something bad, but at this point she was very okay with the nasty stuff being kept for the bad guys.

After patting down just about every little place in her uniform that could possibly hide snacks and checking their surroundings again, there was a dark shimmer and then the dark coat and boots were replaced by an outfit featuring a tank top, mismatched converse, and a lot of handmade bracelets. She reached into the pockets of her new jean shorts, and that was when she found it.

It was a very sad, very crumpled up Oreo wrapper. "There we go," she said, showing it to Aletheia before kinda shaking it at the shadows in the distance. If there were fairies there, they didn't seem too impressed. Alexa peeked inside the package. One crushed up Oreo remained. Yeah, she wouldn't be too impressed either.

"You're a professional baker?" she asked, the excitement coming back. "Woah. Okay, one, now I really wanna help you eat twenty cakes. I mean, even if I have to pay you." That was only fair, right? "Two, you can probably do a lot better than this with making something to get the fairies out." She put the sad, sad Oreo back in her pocket where it belonged. "But I can try to help! Do some research, get some ingredients," her grin got bigger, "and then we'll have the ultimate fairy feast!"

Bouquet of Diamonds
No worries! And yeah, I think meeting up as civs would be good! We might be able to wrap this one soon and then do a follow up?

Chrysocolla. Aletheia would have to keep that name in mind for a later date, espescially given everything Sylvite was saying about her. Magic that was given such high praise as "scary awesome" made this other senshi all the more worth trying to run into at some point. Also, the fact that Sylvite had so much respect for senshi magic made perfect sense now. To get trained by a senshi of that power... It opened up Aletheia's eyes to more possibilities for her future.

Speaking of possibilities, Aletheia couldn't help but go a bit wide eyed as Sylvite's ensemble changed. Ooh, a bold move! Not one she was too afraid to follow, though. She flipped her hair back with her hand and a similar, reddish shimmer faded over her. Her hair shortened significantly to a pair of symmetrical pigtails, held with a pair of pink scrunchies, and she nudged her pink-cat eye glasses back into place over her nose from their resting place on the top of her head. Her outfit was, by her standards, rather simple. A white t-shirt with a pink cat face in the center, a pair of light blue denim shorts, and her favorite purple high-tops. She rolled her shoulders and grinned at Sylvite.

"Love your bracelets. Did you make them yourself?" She asked, pausing to adjust the sleeve of her shirt. Dang thing was always getting wrinkled up. "Uh, I wouldn't say professional, but I wouldn't say that I couldn't run a business if I had the money to open one. Right now it's all internet based, through my blog, and I hope to get enough business to expand it from there!"

She couldn't help but break out in laughter again over the twenty cakes challenge. Seriously? Well, if she promised to help not let any of them go to waste, she supposed that she could give it a shot! She twirled one of her curls idly around her finger.

"Alright, challenge accepted!" She said, moving to pop her phone out of her pocket and unlock it. "Research should be the easy part of this, but ingredients might kick us where it hurts. Like, we could buy all of the supplies in the world and have no success. It might be best to figure out a few things we think will really wow the fairies and settle for the ingredients for those, plus a little extra just to cover any spilled mix or burned buns."

She scrolled around a bit, the light of her phone flickering against the lenses of her glasses, and puckered her lips in frustration. No internet. Dang. Research would need to wait until she got home. She did a little wiggle of frustration, tapped on the bottom of her screen, and offered her phone to Sylvite.

"Want to add your number into my phone so we can regroup later?" She offered. "It'll also make it easier for us to brainstorm and figure out when it might be best for us to come back and set up our bait!"

stari_maga
I think we could easily wrap this up in the next post or two? I'd also be more than happy to set up the next rp! Do you mind if Mariposa just invites Alexa over to her place?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 12, 2020 5:57 pm

Alexa lifted up her arms to show off the bracelets, beaming under the compliments. Today she was mostly just wearing standard issue friendship bracelets, but they were all made in nicely coordinated colors. "Yeah!" she said. "I make them in class if I start getting fidgety. I'm learning to do some with fancy beads, too, but I don't wear those all the time."

"Oh, a blog is cool, too! The internet is the future of business or whatever." She was still smiling, but she gave a tiny shrug. The concept of sweets, no matter the format, was way more interesting than the concept of work or economics.

Either way, she moved on quickly enough to take the offered phone, where she tapped in her real name, Alexa Dewey, her number, and a couple of sparkle emojis for good measure because obviously. Then, she pulled out a somewhat dated smartphone of her own and handed it over. "Here's mine," she said.

Part of her wondered if it was the fairies who were messing up the cell signals, since they weren't that far out of town or anything. Unless some youma was chewing on the tower. That was also always a possibility. "Yeah, I can't afford infinite ingredients, either," she said. "Flour and butter, yeah, but hopefully we don't get into any weird stuff. But I'll do some research and see what looks like it's worth a try."

She squinted, now a bit annoyed, at whatever might be lurking in the distance. "Which means I'm gonna need my computer, I guess. So, uh, see you later?"

She had already mentally switched tasks, and was looking towards home, because if there was something she liked as much as friends and sweets, it was mysteries.

Mariposa's eyes visibly lit up as Alexa showed off the bracelets. Yes, another crafter! On top of everything else she'd found out about her today, there was very little else that Alexa could show off now that would make Mariposa like her more. Fashion sense? On point. Creative, capable, and friendly? Yes. On the right side of the war and didn't make a huge deal about being a higher up? Literal icing on the cake. Mariposa had nothing to say but praise and compliments, and that wasn't something she could do every day.

"Fidget inspired creativity is often the best kind of creativity." She agreed, waving her finger affirmatively. Ah, but did Alexa mean "class" as in high school or college? Even though she had only turned 21 herself, Mariposa hadn't been in front of a desk in what felt like ages. The concept of being older than someone a higher rank than her wasn't exactly the easiest pill to swallow, but she supposed it was possible? Did she... You know... Have to act mature now? Set a good example?

Ha! Like she'd ever grow up for anyone. Not even someone as nice as Alexa.

"True, and it's pretty lucrative if you learn how to self promote properly." She said, taking both the offered phone and her own phone back. Alexa Dewey, huh? Such a cute name! She eagerly typed her name into a new contact, Mariposa Crosse, and added several cupcake and cat emojis. Three of each wasn't too much, right? Once she was done, she offered the phone back to Alexa. "I mean, I think I get what you mean by weird, but fairies are kinda weird already. We may go slightly weird anyway? We'll see what happens, I guess?"

Man, it was getting dark out, wasn't it? She squinted too, more out of frustration than lack of light, and nodded at Alexa.

"Yeah! Uh..." She said, turning back towards where they came from. "I'm not too far from the center of town, in a big complex. I know there are like, twelve places that could mean, but my complex isn't one of the newer or fancy ones. Kinda narrows it down."

She let out a short laugh, nudged her phone safely back into her pocket, and finger-gunned toward Alexa.

"I'm glad I met you tonight, Alexa!" She added, before turning away with a wave. "I'll be in touch soon! We'll lure these fairies out of their hiding spot together, I just know it!"
