For the most brief of moments, old stories passed through Pekelo’s mind. Books written about deep, passionate love, and how it could overcome everything were a favorite of his after all. And they often spoke about how naturally everything fell into place when it came to intimacy. This wasn’t it, exactly. Neither of them had kissed one another before, and Pekelo was certain that atleast he had never kissed anyone period. So when teeth bumped into one another, or when noses felt like they got in the way as they tried to express just how much the other meant to them, it never seemed to fit just right. Pekelo adored it, craved it, and wished it would never end. But breathing was certainly an important part to living, so they would have to part eventually. And when they did, he finally laughed. “Geesh... Why’d we wait so long? We’d be way better at that if we hadn’t put it off!”

It was weirdly... challenging, from a logistical standpoint. Ahio hadn't ever thought that that would be the main thing running through his head during his first kiss. But it was oddly unsynchronized, unharmonious, almost like an exercise in trying and failing to find the right timing. But it was so beautiful and pure, and in spite of the horrid circumstances, Ahio found himself laughing by the time they broke apart. "We keep... Every time you open your mouth, I close mine," he managed to say between wheezing laughter, sprawling out on those old blankets of theirs. What he wouldn't give to just do this forever! Ahio reached up to pull Pekelo down onto the blankets with him, wanting to wrap his arms and legs around him, to hold him and squeeze him tight and just keep kissing him. For all these weird bumps and off-beat timing, he didn't for a second feel odd or self-conscious. "We thought we had forever," he said. "But it turns out, we don't... And that... I guess that means we have a lot to do before time runs out." He hated the thought, but there was also a thrill involved, equal parts urgent and taboo, that riled him up more than he'd ever thought it would. He tilted his head toward Pekelo's, leaning into kiss him again, this time with what he hoped was less uncertainty.

Together, they rolled around in that pile of blankets, giggling and trying to keep what was supposed to be a sad, passionate moment going. If this was supposed to be their last time like this, it certainly was shaping up to be a wonderful memory, and probably one of Pekelo's favorites. "Shuuuush, no more sad stuff! Just gotta keep practicing!" At that, he placed a few pecks around his cheeks. That was an easy, safe target to aim for without any more silly bumping around, even if it did make him laugh. "Mmmm... And besides." He whispered, cuddling a little closer. "I'm not married yet. Haven't even met the guy. I'm gonna keep kissing you until you get tired of it!"

"Okay, okay," Ahio relented with a laugh. He folded Pekelo up into his arms and wound his legs against his friend's, burying his face into Pekelo's hair and peppering his neck with soft kisses. "Yea, that's true. This is all okay," he said, convincing himself to believe it. Nothing was wrong. He was here, tangled up with his best friend, his love, and if neither of them said any more about this engagement, they might be able to imagine that this would be them forever. Ahio let himself succumb to this fantasy, banishing the bad news to the back of his mind so he could focus on this moment and notice every little touch, every little kiss. "I love you, Pekelo, I wish I'd said it sooner."

Pekelo squirmed at the feeling of those kisses against his neck, uncertain what it all meant. Not in the sense of whether or not Ahio liked him, that he knew for a fact! But more of the tingling in his lower spine, or how his belly began doing flips the more his dearest friend held him close. It wasn't enough to unsettle him, but he did shift, juuust enough so that their position would change. He would be the one holding Ahio against his chest, resting his head between those two silly buns of his. "Regrets are for the old and dying!" The hands that were once hugging the other boy tightly to him now went and tugged on Ahio's ears, the lightests of scoldings. "We're young, we have our whole lives ahead of us. And you said it now! Better now than never!" There wasn't enough to regret what was going on just yet. He hadn't met Vaiarii, they hadn't even signed a contract, or recieved some sort of dowry or whatever it was that solidified the deal. All he had was a name, and a vague, blobby interpretation of who that man was. For all he knew, it could have been some random inkstain on a cave wall. "Now... You know what I'd love? Some of that stari! Go get it, okay? I think I brought enough of my own snacks to last us a few days if we wanna rebel just a little bit and hang out here. I still don't think they ever found this place!"
