"Yeah. Yeah." When it finally started to sink in for him she felt vindicated. At least she wasn't the only one having a hard time now.

"It's...shocking, of course, but we made it this far without worrying about it so...I just don't see why it should get in the way. From a practical standpoint we're still two virile, consenting adults so I just...." Her cheeks had turned a huskier shade of orange and for once in her life Maritza found herself at a loss for words. The whole situation wasn't something she was used to by any means or one she'd ever dreamed of being in, but still...

"I just...don't think this should end based on age." She stated awkwardly. "We've taken all the right steps to make sure that a child won't be part of the equation, and so long as everything follows through I don't see an issue."

Of course she'd never really seen herself as a mother to begin with. Maritza was brash, often rude with children, and had little patience for them. While they had their cute moments bringing one into this situation would just be beyond irresponsible so she was glad in that moment he'd insisted on the tea.

... Well, there was that. But Uquin had to admit, he was surprised that 'ending it' had even been on the table. ... He wondered exactly what she saw 'this' as, in the first place. Virile though...? Uquin finally let out a startled laugh, shaking his head at her phrasing. As if she had to justify his age, behind the fact he was healthy.

... But it was true. He was hale and hearty, as they said. ...But. "... A child is not the end of the world, if it happens." He pointed out quietly. He'd felt that way, when his daughters were born - it had come at such a bad time. But now...?

"Should that come to pass... I hope, at least, you will trust that I would not suddenly disappear into the city somewhere."

"No, it wouldn't be, but I think for our sake it would be best not to go looking for one." A child now could be devastating to her career which honestly shouldn't have been the first thought to mind, but it was. Maritza had worked hard since she was fifteen years of age to build herself up in the eyes of her employers and she was on the cusp of something more. Everything was finally starting to line up for her, but if she became pregnant it could all go away.

Still, having a child...Well, it didn't sound awful. In her youth she would have hated the idea but now she could understand why her mother had been so set on having one regardless of marital status. Maybe in a few years time she would be ready and if Uquin were still around then perhaps then they could discuss this further.

"I should think not. With all of the letters your daughters send you I would think you reciprocate." She smiled a little, levity setting back in. "That means you're a good father, and if something were to pass I would want my child to have the same treatment."

... Well, that was a better position than he'd assumed she'd have, based off their conversation a moment ago. As it was, their relationship was still so casual that they didn't even have a name for it. Were they lovers, partners...? Or simply friends with benefits at this point? But Uquin knew that he enjoyed Maritza's company, be it her talking animatedly about her work and schematics, or sipping tea together calmly in a sitting room while she sat, nearly swallowed up by her bulky brother's clothes.

Children would complicate things, certainly. ... Thus, the tea. But... he was ... touched by her words. He felt he was a good father, but hearing it? It was... nice. And.. that she felt he would make a good father left him unexpectedly sentimental.

"For what it's worth, I think you would be a good mother. You had the patience to deal with me trailing after you on your airships, after all - if you can explain that sort of thing to me, then parenthood will be simple for you."

It was, clearly, an exaggeration, but he wasn't lying. She was rough and a bit sharp at times, but... there was a gentleness to her, in places. She had such loyalty to the family she cared for that he knew she'd dedicate herself fiercely to any children she had.

She couldn't contain her derisive laugh. "You give me too much credit. Explaining my work is far easier than parenting." She'd seen the way parents chased after kids on the airship and tried to get them to listen. Sometimes the child would behave, most times they just started screaming and she knew without a doubt that she didn't have the will power to survive that.

The fact he'd made it through two, twins at that, and had lived long enough to see his progeny go through the same was a testament to his patience.

"For what it's worth, though...thank you." It was kind, if not misplaced, and she appreciated knowing she'd fooled someone into thinking she could make a capable parent.

Hopefully she would never have to prove him wrong.
