Phedre DeCoure had arrived at the Destiny City Star Festival Charity Event with both her parents and grandfather. While she had no intention of bidding on anything, there were a few items that had piqued her parent’s interest for one of the lakeside homes they had recently purchased. Most of the homes they had were often staged, used for temporary rentals through Air B&B for additional income to help pay the mortgages of fund projects related to the fixer ups that needed more tender love and care then originally anticipated.

“Phe, sweetie.” A withered hand was placed upon her shoulder.

She turned and was greeted by her mothers warm smile, “Hmm? Yes, mother?” This was a formal event that demanded a level of respect more so for show then anything.

“Your Grandfather is starting to feel tired. Your father and I are going to take him upstairs to rest. Will you stay here while they prepare our purchases and bring them up when they’re ready?” Her hand slid from her daughter’s shoulder down to her wrist where she held on.

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.” Phedre smiled reassuringly.

This was one of the few rare times she saw her parents let alone her Aunt and Uncle for that matter, take the time to care for her Grandfather. He was in his late 70’s and even though he had lived a healthy lifestyle which included regular daily walks and healthy meals, his mental health was starting to decline.

He was as sharp as ever but there were moments where his memory slipped and he forgot things that were once important to him. The doctor had said that he was currently in Stage 2 dementia where there would be a very mild decline but its gotten to the point of being noticeable, not just to family but to friends as well.

As of late his children, which included her mother, were arguing over what to do for him. His mind wasn’t completely gone but someone needed to be around just in case something happened. Anyone could bring him into their home but their lifestyles and jobs didn’t really allow for it.

Her aunt had the audacity to suggest putting him into an old folks home which nearly turned into an explosive fight that ended with Phedre walking out of the house completely. So disrespectful, the lot of them. They wouldn’t have even had the home they lived in if their father, her grandfather, hadn’t gifted it to them as a wedding present. Whenever they had fallen into financial hardships due to a poor investment, he had bailed them out, set them back at gound zero and got them walking on their own again.

At least her parents seemed to be stepping up, which was an honest relief. “Thank you, sweetie. I’ll be back down once he’s settled to help.”

“Take your time, there’s no rush.” Phedra gave her mother a brief hug. “Tell him I love him and I’ll be up later.”

“I will,” A gentle hand cupped the side of her cheek before Ms. DeCoure stepped away to take care of her father while her only child handled things down here.

Landry Croix

Landry... Well... He didn't want to be here.

Not simply because he didn't ever want to be anywhere in the city if he didn't have to be, and not because he hated these sorts of things, which was untrue. He loved the attention from those who were around his same level of wealth, beauty, and snobbiness, what could he say? And the compliments? Here, in a gala where everyone was made up to be their best, he loved it.

But no, the reason he didn't want to be here was for one specific man. One who happened to leave a rather large, rather noticeable mark on his neck before the event started.

Furious wasn't quite the word he'd use to describe how he felt about it.

Maybe turned on? Maybe frustrated that their fooling around in the Truck had to be cut short so soon? Landry had a responsibility as the leader of the house hold after all, and the large check written for whatever charity they were donating to this year was on him, ready to be handed over.

They made a compromise, go in, drop in the check, then get the hell out of there, and back to Landry's bed to continue what his body was desperately craving.

And yet he couldn't find the person he needed to dump this check on, and stood there, frustrated, waiting to finally be addressed by staff.

Yes, his temper was short, but not because of these people.

Damn that Gryphon... Damn his sweet words and wonderful touches, and the kisses that were always quick to bring him to his knees.

... Even know his face grew hot with his craving of that man.

For now, he wandered around, taking whatever drink that was offered so he could somehow cool off and last long enough to make it home without completely jumping Gryphon the moment he saw him again.

December Bloom

This year would be the first year December Ever attended any of these ritzy city-held events!

And yes, he was plenty excited! He fluttered about the tables, the auction items, the food and the people like a hummingbird hyped up on sugar and coffee!

For once, he didn't feel like he stood out like a sore thumb in such a snazzy place like this. Nataniel had been so kind to pick out an outfit for him, one that not only seemed to match his own, but still had those subtle things December liked.

Flowers, soft colors, the more feminine cut that accented his narrow shoulders and small frame.

He couldn't say he felt beautiful, since he never truly did, but he did feel like he fit in. And that was what mattered the most.

And because of that, he was able to stand still at a table, waiting for Nataniel to return without feeling incredibly anxious.

Anxo DeLuna

Not everything seemed to go considerably easily this evening.

No, it wasn't terrible, but there were a number of stressors out there that made the evening less than ideal.

Arian and Saffy weren't quite getting along, and while that wasn't the end of all things in the world, it did make it hard to enjoy himself fully. They were both here, within reach of one another, but actually closing the distance between the cousins was harder than he first imagined. And was it even his responsibility to do so?

... Technically, no. But he loved them both, and wanted to make sure that their happiness included being happy with one another.

So... well, He tried.

Whether it actually worked or not would have to be scene.

For now, he was here, tending to Arian, and perhaps flirting a little too much with him.

All in all... A peaceful evening, and he simply sipped his drink before looking about the room, wondering what would happen next.

After all, this was Destiny City. There was no such thing as normal.

Nataniel took a steadying breath as he picked his way through clusters of people and over to a little side table laid out neatly with small refreshments. Even if the reprieve was only momentary, it was necessary. He couldn't tolerate being in this kind of crowded setting for too long without starting to feel just the tiniest bit suffocated and extremely tense and agitated. And it didn't help that his parents and little brother were attending as well, with Nataniel's mother a near-constant nag at his heels. At least she didn't seem offended that Nat had brought along December, though perhaps a little disappointed that he'd brought a boy, rather than a nice young woman.

He poured himself a little paper cup full of punch, and then let his dark eyes rove over the other attendees. Besides December and his family (and the scattering of friends his boyfriend had made), Nat didn't actually recognize anyone else in the room. He wondered if this was enough to fulfill his 'obligation' to attend. Perhaps he could head home soon...

This was such a pain... Of course Nataniel hadn't wanted to come out to some crowded event. It was only at his mother's command that he'd been forced to, and as he looked toward the door, it seemed like there were a lot of people between him and escape.

He'd probably never make it if Mikali was still watching.

Instead, Nataniel collected another cup of punch and moved back to December's side. "Here," he offered, extending the drink to the younger boy. "The types of garments my mother picks out tend to be... warm. Be sure to keep hydrated." He plucked absently at the cuff of his own long sleeve, then reached into the deep pocket at his hip to procure a slim, metal bottle. "If we must be here for much longer, I am going to add a little something extra to my drink. Are you interested?"

He gave the bottle shake, and the sound of sloshing liquid could be heard. Nataniel wasn't so foolish that he felt he needed to get smashed here in this public setting, in front of his parents, but a little liquor might help take the edge off, so to speak.

There is a pleasant chatter around the room, just loud enough that it’s difficult to hear the pouring rain outside. Everything feels relatively comfortable despite being a little packed. The employees are carefully wheeling out the auctioned items.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary--until an old antique television that sold at a remarkably low price flicks on despite not being plugged in. In the crowded room it isn’t immediately visible; the cord is curled next to it on the cart it’s being moved on and the screen is a dark, flickering static.

The television is an old model, advertised from the forties and built into a heavy cabinet. The screen flickers a bit more rapidly and suddenly there’s strange gust in the room and a vortex-like sensation washes over everyone as if a window had been opened.

The lights in the room shut off as thunder rolls loudly above them; even as the lights flicker back on, the images around everyone seem distorted, like they are moving too fast to focus on.

And then, it all stops.

The room has changed; it’s midday in the center of what appears to be a very dated city. It feels as though you’ve been plucked into a moderately sized town that perfectly encapsulates 1950s America. Around you, men in suits and women in floral patterns and long skirts. There’s something strange about how things look--like you’re watching an old movie. The sound is a little warped and then, dramatically, the strangely dressed population points and screams at something behind you.

An army of extremely retro-style robots are marching like soldiers towards the town. Their designs are almost comical, but the fear and frantic need to escape covers the town. People begin to scream and run away from the approaching robots and you feel the need to do so yourself--if not because of the robots, because of white static behind them that seems to be eating up everything it touches.

Down the road, away from the robots, there appears to be a split in the stage--a single, gaping chasm that draws you towards it. It's a pathway out of this stereotypical American city from the past--and it's the only way out.

You don’t know where it leads, but you’d be wise to find out.

Quote:
An old antique television imbued with a strange magic seems to have come to life and drawn in members of the crowd! On the outside it appears to be a normal television, but for some reason it has obtained some strange sentience and magical ability. Change is always hard--or maybe whoever purchased it at the auction didn’t bid enough to appease it. Either way--it’s unhappy, and you’re paying the price for it.

If your character was not at the Charity Benefit but you would like for them to participate, they may be sucked in from a nearby area as well!

All characters may participate in this event; characters that were at the charity benefit or powered down nearby will arrive in whatever clothes they were wearing, however any characters that had been powered up outside of the charity will find themselves automatically powered down and in a civilian glamour. This affects all powered characters, including youma, half youma, and Mauvians (and does not count towards their usual glamour usage). You may not power up upon arriving or at any time during the event. If you attempt to power up, you will find a strange magical barrier preventing you from doing so.

All characters must roll one 10 sided dice to proceed!

Quote:
If you roll between 8-10 you manage to avoid the majority of the crowd and the stampede of people jostling for you to hurry along. More than that, you got away from the robots--or whatever they were--unscathed.

If you roll between a 4-7 you get caught in the crowd; you’re still at the front and ahead enough that you don’t have to worry so much about the robot army parading through town. You wind up a little jostled, bruised by some elbows or pushing as people shove through the crowd. It’s not the end of the world, but you might be feeling a little sore later.

If you roll between a 1-3, you wind up at the back of the crowd, struggling to get through. Not only do you have to deal with the frantic shoving of the people around you, you have to deal with how close you are to the robots. Humans are elbowing you and stepping on you and the closer you are to the robots, the more you realize they are emitting a low, pulsing sound that feels crushing; it’s almost guaranteed to give you a headache if you stay too close for too long--so you’d better run.

Please keep track of your roll totals in bold red font at the top of your post!

If you choose to, you may respond to a prompt from a lower number than you rolled, but you cannot respond to a prompt higher than what you rolled! You can only roll once per prompt and if you make a mistake, simply strike out your post. Please do not delete rolls! You may continue to RP between prompts. The next prompt will be posted in ~48 hours. While you can join at any point in the roleplay, you cannot make up lost rolls!

Rayna Farrell (( Roll totals: 7 ))

Almost as if her thoughts heralded some strange, unforeseen, calamity did Rayna pick up on the loud crack of thunder overhead that caused the lights in the room to flicker. Any other city and Rayna would be fine with how close the storm outside seemed to be but living in Destiny City was another thing. Tensing up in a defensive pose Rayna waited for the inevitable "hell to break loose" moment she was sure was coming before taking note of the distorted images that she wasn't sure she was seeing correctly. Rubbing at her eyes didn't seem to solve the issue and worse it seemed to cause the room to vanish and Rayna found herself standing outside - and strangely enough - in daylight. Destiny City seemed to have vanished from around the crowd that still lingered and yet the surrounding could have been a past version of the city. The old fashioned getup that was on display lent credence to her theory but the strangest sight was a line of comical looking robots that seemed to appeared on the horizon. Behind the line of robots didn't appear to be anything but static - and that was disturbing.

While it was awakening the drive to investigate whatever phenomena she was experiencing (and would love to get answers for) the crowd starting jostling and shoving to get out of the way of the line of robots that were fast approaching over the horizon. Shaking off the desire to potentially figure out what was going on, knowing that it would have to wait, Rayna turned away from the robot army and focused on her attempt to get away from the things - mentally cursing all Destiny City events. The young woman aught to have known that nothing was safe; not even Charity Balls. At least with slacks on it was easier to move around in although taking hits from a panicked crowd would be felt for a while.

Roll Total: 4
Sadie Avamir

After chatting with Duncan, Sadie had gone on to the auction itself. She'd been watching the items, especially the tea set she and her sister had been sent to donate, and she had made a few bids herself. Unfortunately, her apartment was too small for much of what was being sold, even the trinkets, and when she found herself with the winning bid on a quilt, she asked the auctioneer to sell it again. It was nice, watching the amount of money that was going to charity.

The end of the auction meant the end of her official business. The unofficial business had been just as important from the beginning, though, and her sister, who she was meant to stay with, was still off flirting. At least there were things to do. Well, she had a ticket to the ball, pre-purchased, in her strange little clutch bag.

As she was about to see if she could take one last look at any refreshments available, everything shifted.

She was outside, and in a place that didn't quite look like Destiny City. It could have been an older version, maybe, but Sadie didn't spend so much time looking for landmarks or for hints of the time period. She was looking at the robots.

There were a lot of them, and awful static behind them. She hadn't seen anything like this since that time she'd ended up sucked into that odd bottle. She spent just one second looking back, and then she did what she always did when a situation started seeming like too much.

She ran.

Unfortunately, everyone else seemed to be having the same idea, and in the few seconds she'd spent looking behind her and kicking off her shoes, she'd lost her chance at getting ahead of the crowd.

She was jostled. Her feet were stepped on, and someone elbowed her straight in the chest, but that was all right. At least it seemed like they were making some progress away from the robots.

While out and about Destiny City, living very dangerously by bouncing to humanoid form for fun and to poke things, Chip came across something rare and exciting:

He found a potential senshi. A new one, with no knowledge of all the shenanigans around him. So very useful. And all his.

Well, maybe not. But close enough. So as to not draw too much attention, he'd approached this kid (well, not exactly. Pretty high on the age scale for easily spotting a senshi, but he was new, so kid), interrupting whatever unimportant business was going on. The guy was alone, at least.

Vem had intended on attending this Charity Ball, as he'd gotten a ticket through some promotion or another, but he'd been running late. And then, just before he got to the place, a kid called out to him, "Hey! You! C'mere!"

Vem stopped short at that, and peered in the direction. "Huh? Why on earth would I want to set foot in some dark alley?" Pause. "For that matter, what's some kid hiding out there. You okay?"

"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine, I just..." He trailed off briefly. "Oh, whatever." And then, a kitten stepped into the light. Wearing a hat. Why would a kitten wear a hat. "I came to you. Now pick me up!"

Vem gawked at the cat for a moment, and looked around. Nobody was right there. He touched his head. "Oh god, I've lost it finally. Right off the deep end."

"Don't be dumb," the cat replied with a giggle. "I'm Chip! And I'm about to make your world way more fun!" He took a step closer again. "Now let's go somewhere a little less open, don't want everybody to see this."

With a sigh, Vem did as originally requested, and gently picked up the cat. It was so small...and didn't squirm as he did that, making it much easier. "I'm probably gonna regret this," the young man said. "What exactly do you have in mind...Chip?"

"You've heard of all the strange happenings around town, right? Oh, and what's your name?"

Still feeling like he was having some sort of episode, Vem replied, "I'm November, or just Vem...and yeah, I've seen some stuff about that. Weird kids in frilly outfits, and monsters in the alleyways." Like talking cats? Nah, that didn't seem right.

"Right! And I help people to keep the peace!" Chip supplied. "All those frilly outfit people have magic powers! And you will too!"

"What...if I don't want that?" Vem asked curiously...though the prospect of real magic was too tempting to outright reject.

"Why wouldn't you?" Chip replied, shocked by the very question. "Besides, it's part of who you are, even if you don't know it yet, Meztli."

Vem was about to ask what exactly that meant, when there was a sudden tugging sensation nearby causing them both to look in the direction of that charity ball Vem was missing for this.

"That's different," Chip intoned, before everything went mad.

Chip & Vem

In a flash that Chip had not caused, he suddenly found himself transported somewhere else...and in the plain human guise he'd been experimenting with sometimes since that incident recently. Still being held by a startled civilian. He looked around, taking in the unfamiliar scenery.

"What the hell did you just do?" Vem demanded.

"Me? Nothing, I was about to do stuff, but this wasn't it..." The kid felt his head, found no ears. "Best not mention what we were just talking about," he said, "For your safety. I'll explain later."

Vem set the kid down. "This kinda looks like the 50s..." He eyed the now-human chip suspiciously. "That could be a problem, I--" he paused, as sounds of chaos reached him. There were lots of people. Crowds fleeing, jostling...and absurd looking robots. "...I think we should run," he finished instead.

Chip took one look at that and nodded. "Yeah!" he agreed. "Those look fun...but not if I'm not in control!"

Unfortunately for both of them, they were pretty well in between the fleeing crowd and the robots. The feeling those things emitted wasn't great, but it was certainly good motivation to run away. Vem took the kid by the wrist and pulled him along, wondering just what in the hell he was getting into.

TOTA L ROLLS 4

She stood by the door and windows watching the rain fall. She wondered how long it was going to rain for and how long the auction was going to be. It wasn't like she had any other place to go. Her major concern was if it would be boring or not. After it stopped raining and after she saw what the auction items were and how much ridiculous amount of money people were willing to spend on it she was going to head home. She turned around just to see that they were showing the items off. What got her attention was an television, she moved a little more in front so that she could get a better look at it. She felt strange being around it. It seemed to vibrate some kind of energy. She wondered if she was the only one to feel it.

Then the lights went off. She didn't like not seeing anything that is before or around her. She tried to back up or at least feel jor way to the window or door. She was able to find herself to one of the window to only peek outside and saw a strange and creepy view. She wasn't sure about what she saw. It looked like a group of robots were making their way to where she and the others were

She looked around and then started to make her way to the only exit that she could find. But as she made her way there the crowd starting pushing and she got caught up in the crowd. She wish everyone would stop shoving people.

Liliane Benson
Rolls: 2

**********

She hadn't managed to get a ticket (or if she had, she'd forgotten that she had it), strangely enough she had managed to focus on what was important at this particular time of year and she had been working on her dissertation. However this didn't mean that she would be entirely oblivious. It was the Star Festival and this meant that she would be participating and exploring to some extent... She had keychains to collect and she wasn't about to be dissuaded from that.

This was why Liliane Benson found herself wandering around at this time of the evening. She had managed to successfully complete the Scavenger Hunt, albeit it, with some assistance from passing officers and tour guides. She hadn't even taken long enough for it to get incredibly dark! All had been going well for her until she had wandered passed the auction hall where the Charity Benefit was being held. Nothing had seemed amiss as she wandered passed, but the moment she was about to step away from it's immediate vicinity she suddenly found herself in very different circumstances.

"Well...pants," she uttered as she surveyed her surroundings.

Henshin pin missing, completely vulnerable and in an entirely foreign landscape, Liliane knew what might have happened but she didn't really appreciate when it had happened. Lily knew better than to ignore the magic of the city now, she'd been well taught at this stage, but when weird things started happening she preferred to be prepared for it. As it was, in her civilian form she was neither agile or strong.

This was something that she soon came to experience first hand as the crowd came bearing down towards her adn practically flattened her. Now trapped at the back of the crowd, she caught sight of what had caused the alarm and groaned. Weird looking robots on the scene, all marching with purpose towards her and something was behind them.

Whatever that something was, it seemed to be destroying everything in its path.

"Nope!"

She booked it.

Safe to say that by now Lily knew better than to marvel at the oddities and with those things drawing nearer she opted to run. She'd fight her way through the crowd if she had to but she had no interest in sticking around to see what happened if she got too close to those things.

Regula Wilder
Rolls: 9

**********

Maybe he should have booked a vacation and left the city.

This was something he was genuinely pondering as things took a turn for the worse. One moment he had been leaning against a railing and the next he was in a very different city than he was familiar with. Almost dsytopian in quality, the man narrowed his eyes and took a brief moment to survey his surroundings. He'd accepted that the city had weird magic by now, he'd also acknowledged that it couldn't be trusted, and once again he found himself in a position where this had been proven.

Well, s**t.

His jaw tightened as he caught sight of what he could only describe as a stampede of people. Some of them seemed familiar, some of them even looked like they had been bustling amount in the same hall he had been in! If this was the case then that meant there was a distinct possibility is wayward companion might very well be here and in the given circumstances it was not advisable for him to leave him behind.

It was for this reason that Regula stayed behind, it probably wasn't the smartest idea he'd ever had, but until he caught sight of Orias at the very least, he wouldn't be forcing himself to the front of any crowds. Troublemaker the Mauvian might have been but that didn't mean that Regula was about to leave him to deal with this. Quite frankly, given the circumstances the cat could very well be crushed by all the feet.

...If only he knew that Orias wouldn't look quite like he normally did. He'd be in for a bit of a surprise when he did finally manage to catch sight of him!

February Bloom
Rolls: 5

***********

She had been shopping that was all! She wasn't quite sure what had become of her, but all she had done was make her way to the subway when suddenly she...was most definitely not in Destiny City anymore. She wasn't sure where she was actually, some sort of city and it was almost...dsytopian? It certainly wouldn't have been considered one of her usual haunts and it took her a considerable amount of time to take it all in.

It was a lot to take in.

For a start it was the middle of the day, and given she had just spent the better part of her evening shopping she was confident she hadn't spent an all-nighter in the city. Dated, but in a vintage sense, she was a touch slow on the uptake when it came to the realisation that it was perhaps unwise to remain where she was. If it hadn't been for the screaming of one particular bystander then she might well have ended up in an even worse state of affairs, fortunately she had paid attention to that and -

Oh.

Oh...

Robots, weird as they might have looked, were bearing down on her and they didn't seem particularly friendly.

Preservation now at the front of her mind the woman gathered her wits abotu her and quickly got some measure of where she was. In the end, she elected to follow some of the crowd and conveniently they seemed to be heading down a road, towards what she could only call a chasm. Was this wise? A glance behind her indicated that on this occasion she didn't have a choice, she was going to have to run and quickly.

Alas, she wasn't the only one with this idea and she found herself jostled about by panicked citizens. She could just about keep ahead of most, but she was certainly going to feel a couple of those areas that had been elbowed in the morning. She hurried on towards the chasm though a route that seemed to lead out of the city...
