Calaverite’s spidery fingers crawled across the sand to loop around Rakovanite’s wrist. His body still ached, and he just felt, in a word, uncomfortable, but Rakovanite had come to get him. He hadn’t been left alone to disappear beneath the water where no one would find him again… He sat up slowly, inching his way up until he could lean forward to touch his head to the agent’s bare chest. His arms slunk around Rakovanite’s torso, tugging himself against the other man and hiding his face in his shoulder.

“Okay,” he agreed quietly. “I want to go home too.”

His bed would be there, and maybe he could pilfer some chicken nuggets from the kitchen in the barracks fridge. That would be better than sitting soaking wet on a beach in the dark. The sand was gritty and had wedged itself in all the wrong places- in his ears and hair and eyes and between his toes. It might be nice to just take a quick shower and go to sleep.

He peeked up to the agent. Maybe Rakovanite would even stay with him, if he asked very nicely.

Rakovanite practically flinched as Calaverite wound himself around him. Rationally he knew that children tended to be this way: obtuse when it suited them, but grateful after being saved from a scare. Still, Rakovanite did not find it any great source of comfort for the boy to be wrapping his arms around him. He gave Cala’s head an awkward pat and then disentangled himself so he could rise to his feet.

“Give me a moment to call.”

He retrieved his coat from the sand and dug his tablet pen out of his pocket. A message was sent that Cala would need pick up from the beach. They had nothing of significance to report in terms of Order activity, but he suggested someone should likely still escort Calaverite to a healer.

When a general showed up to retrieve them, Rakovanite stated he would be able to make his own way home from here. He explained the situation that had occurred, glossing over the small argument at the beginning that he feared would make him seem inadequate, and putting emphasis on how Cala had almost drowned and surely should be taken to a Negaspace healer.

Away from Rakovanite.

Immediately.

The general agreed. If it suited Rakovanite to stay behind, there was no reason to force him. He should still remember to submit on the night, even if no one had encountered any Order auras. That last line sent a twinge of anxiety through Rakovanite. There was nothing too report besides the interaction he’d shared with this corrupt senshi, and it hardly seemed worth mentioning… But he didn’t argue, he gave a clipped nod and let the general turn his focus to Calaverite.

Calaverite wasn’t dumb. He could see how uncomfortable Rakovanite was as Cala held close to him. Which was bizarre. It wasn’t like he was doing anything! He just wanted Rakovanite to know that he was really happy he’d saved him, and he trusted him, and he thought it would be nice if they could be together for a little while longer. That was all. He didn’t want anything else.

But… it was okay, he guessed. Rakovanite shifted out of his grip, and Cala let him.

If they were partners, there would be other times when Rakovanite would have to do stuff with Cala, and next time Calaverite would be sure not to make him so… So… Stiff. So it was okay if they couldn’t spend any more time together tonight. Calaverite was too tired to argue.

When the general came to bring him home, he agreeably linked their arms together. He was sure he’d have to explain his side of the story once they were back in Negaspace, but he didn’t mind doing that.

He cast a quick grin to Rakovanite and flicked his fingers in a happy farewell before the general teleported them away.
