A snort-laugh indicated that he was in the presence of someone who very much appreciated the pun. Given the opportunity she'd have enjoyed hearing more, but the dark was suddenly a lot less appealing. She wasn't normally spooked, or rather, she was ordinarily much more capable of overcoming the sudden surprise, but this evening she wasn't feeling quite so brave.

Was she really that afraid of rats and just hadn't been aware of it? It was a bit of a silly fear and in hindsight she was probably going to give herself a bit of a talking to but for now she was currently of a mind to at least return to a level with a bit more light. To her credit, she did at least find herself capable of copying her companion's actions. Though he might necessarily have intended for her to copy them, the calming breath did work.

If she could just settle her nerves then she'd be fine, they were just rats etc...

Until they weren't.

Her eyes might well have been playing tricks on her but in place of the visitors that had promptly scurried elsewhere, there were a pair of gleaming yellow eyes peering back at her a short distance away and from that same space came a low, rumbling growl...

"That one might need a bit more convincing..." Ekanite eeped, not sure he liked the way the thing was growling at them. It was most certainly not a normal rat, by any stretch of the imagination. And his could stretch a very, very long way, when he let it. For now, he kept it reigned in tight just to make sure his fear did not lead to any unfortunate mistakes.

Plus, he could see how scared his companion was, despite her best efforts, and he was sure he was going to have to defend her no matter what that growling mass of darkness turned out to be. It was best for him, in that case, not to imagine it into a horrifying nightmare monster of some dark legend, then.

He was really hoping for a youma. And he was probably on the right track with that one.

"Hey! Stop that menacing and get out of here! We're not here for rats!" Ekanite barked, sounding exactly like a small dog in a large, echoing hallway. He summoned his drumsticks to his hands, though, and kept a white knuckle hold on them in case the rat-thing got brave. Taking a very deep breath, he took a brave step forward, keeping himself in front of Adorea just in case.

Just because he was Negaverse, did not mean he was not chivalrous in his own little way.

Calming breaths. She was braver than this, she knew better than this and she'd dealt with scarier things in her career. In the face of adversary she was meant to step forward and put up her fists. She was still mentally reminding herself of this when he stepped forward and hadn't realised that he had drawn his weapons until much later inn her musings.

Suffice to say that the realisation they were drumsticks was enough to bring a smile to her lips and knock a little bit of 'sense' into her. The uncertainty that she hadn't been able to shake was soon shooed away by the novelty of the agent's chosen armaments. They didn't look very dangerous, but then again she could only wield her fists so technically she wasn't much better... At least he could poke things, he had that going for him.

"It's totally two versus one, we got this," she piped up, voice much more steady as she stepped up to join him and raised her fists. "I punch, you uh...stab?" she squinted at his drumsticks for a moment. "That's how those work, right? Or do they shoot lasers or something?"

Her naivety regarding the ability of agents was showing.

Fortunately she would be spared too much humiliation as the enormous and rather unnatural rat began to move forward, wispy eldritch-like tentacles sweeping out from its legs and around its whiskers. It was definitely a youma, or at least that little ping of chaos made her assume it was, she didn't know of any other monsters out here lately but stranger things had happened.
