Yes, yum! Caolan eagerly accepted his stick with a sweetly murmured thanks, giggling under his breath at Alfina's blunder. He learned from her mistake and carefully blew on it until it wasn't smoking nearly as badly, then took a happy bite, tucking himself closer into Xenia's side as she picked her own treat. His own was somewhat sweet - far from the salty taste that his sisters were theorizing.
"Ew...! Salty seaweed?" He asked, laughing as he took another bite. "What's dad gonna eat when he goes to visit? Xenia - we gotta make sure he packs lots of coats for the cold, right?" Because sweet Caolan didn't quite understand that their father couldn't actually travel to visit, or go down to where the Kahikana lived.

"I'm sure he'll be fine. They'll have some goodies he can eat and if not then there's plenty of just regular fish for him to catch." Or would that be socially acceptable? How close were they to actual fish? If they were just underwater Matorians then it shouldn't be such a big deal, but then again...she just didn't know!
Caolan's statement about coats made her heart ache. He was so, so wrong, but it was so very cute all the same! "That sounds great, but what if we just fed him a lot too. That way he'll have some fat on him to protect him from the cold like the sea animals." Their father wasn't exactly skinny, but he was far from some of the pudgier men on Yael. She knew if he put on a little extra before going into 'colder water', though she doubted he would go very far, then he might stay warmer.

Alfina's mind went straight toward where Xenia's had at the mention of eating fish, her eyes widening slightly. "What if the fish are their friends?" she asked. Then delight filled her eyes. "Wouldn't that be fun? I bet they play with the fish like we do with animals here!"
The idea of papa going that far into the depths had her pause. Would papa really go that far down? Was it really that cold? "We can make him lots of food," she assured confidently. Not that she was able to do much cooking herself yet, but she knew she could help!

Oh gosh! He hoped that their father didn't get in trouble for eating fish, if they were really the friends of the people there! Caolan finished his treat and held the empty stick aloft, nodding eagerly along with his sisters' decision. "Yeah! And-- and Xenia, if we make it spicy, it'll keep him really warm, won't it! Caolan declared mischievously, the burst of naughty giggles that broke from him declaring, loud and clear, that he fully knew this was just a fantasy. Still - as much as he loved their father, he was just rambunctious enough to suggest such a nefarious plot, expecting his sisters to loudly disagree with him.

With her free hand Xenia reached over to ruffle Alfina's hair. "We will. We'll make him so much food he'll get chubby. And that's a good idea, Caolan! The hotter it is the warmer papa will be!" He would eat it because of course he would; it was food made by his children. And yet, Xenia couldn't help imagining the absolute agony Kieran would go through just trying to down some super spicy food. On the one hand it was amusing, like a little prank, and yet...she might have to monitor how much seasoning they put in.
"I'm sure he might even share some with the Kahikana." If they even liked that sort of thing, that is. Pulling off a bite of meat, she gave a half turn to look over the crowd, happily noting that most seemed to be talking about other things now, as if the distraction was only momentary. It was a good thing too; she didn't want the children too scared to shop. "If you guys are done we should get back to our errands before Mama starts to worry about us."

Alfina had to laugh. Imagining her papa rolling around with extra weight was too much! A little extra wouldn't hurt though, especially if the water really is cold. "Extra spicyyyyy~" she agreed with a mischievous grin. She didn't want to set papa on fire, but anything that would help!
And.... maybe it would be spicy enough to keep any mean fish people from eating him. Stuff under the water couldn't get that spicy, could it?
Being brought back to the present moment, she nodded and reached to take a hold of her sister's skirt with her free hand. She would have to keep an eye out for the spicy foods to buy!

Chubby! Caolan burst into giggles, reaching for Alfina's free hand to hold so that they made a little line, walking through the market. He, for one, enjoyed spicy food, so he was sure his daddy would enjoy it too! And all the better, to keep him nice and warm.
Thank goodness they had Xenia to explain this to them in a way that wasn't nearly as scary!
