Constynce continued her apologetic smile, warily watching the tension that seemed to be going through the stranger. He seemed to be reacting quite a bit to her story underneath that mask. But why? How was she able to sense what those subtle shifts in his body meant?

She gave a start when she was grabbed, but the tenderness behind the contact made her breath catch. Heat flared up her arm, eyes locked on the hand holding her. She could feel the beat under those clothes, her fingers twitching slightly with the pulse. Why was this making her chest fill with heat? She could practically hear the words that touch was saying. Or, maybe she was just imagining she could here the words. Maybe it was simply what she wanted to hear. Everything about this man was being translated into an image that wasn't fair..

Her eyes started to well up a little when the man stepped back, her hand hovering where it had been released. She couldn't keep this up. She couldn't pretend this was something that it wasn't. "Please remove your mask. Just for a moment." Biting her lip, she let her hand fall to her side. "I should be present in the moment with you; not my imagination." And by then, she would see if she could even last after confirming the face under the mask. Brow knitting, she took a step back and looked to the side in embarrassment. "I- never mind. I should just go." All she wanted was to pretend..

Suddenly though, Ellond was at her side. "Constynce, your grandmother is being very precocious. It's always business with her. Why don't you and-" his gaze flicked over to Tryston, "-your guest go have yourselves a bite to eat? Keep enjoying yourself tonight."

Constynce felt the heat rush to her cheeks, looking between the men standing there. "You.. want me to go?"

Ellond grinned through a strained smile and pressed their shoulders gently away from the dancing square. "Do not worry. There will be plenty of time for business later. Now, don't make me regret giving you some more free time." He aimed a pointed look at Tryston, and patted their shoulders before turning away.

Tryston felt as if the moment could last forever. Once again he felt that strange connection that seemed to tie him to Constynce and when she moved away again his breath hitched in his throat. She had been so close to finding out the truth. Tryston had been ready to take off his mask, finally revealing himself now that he understood that Constynce had been thinking of him, but then she had pulled away. Tryston's chest felt cold where her hand had once warmed his skin, the lingering warmth fading away as quickly as wisp of a spring breeze. His hand fell listlessly to his side as he hesitated once more. If he chased her now would he be able to reach her still? Would he be able to catch her?

His mouth opened to speak her name before another presence silenced the ice warrior. Surprise made his gaze widen as he realized Ellond was giving him more time with his granddaughter. Tryston's shoulders loosened, tension leaving him, and the warrior nodded his appreciation towards the older man. He understood that the man was giving him a chance while risking the anger of his own wife. It was a generous gift which Tryston would not forget. Encouraged by the gentle shove, Tryston took Constynce's hand and carefully helped her to weave through the dancing crowd. At one point someone stepped too closely and he instantly pulled her into his arms protectively as the slightly tipsy man stumbled way again with an apology. After a long moment the man finally pulled away from Constynce once more before leading her to a more quiet area away from all of the dancing and festivities.

It was suddenly much quieter now and the flickering lights from the lanterns almost looked like sprites dancing in the forest and town square. The music could be heard in the distance but it was subtle, almost as if on the edge of a dream. It was when he felt that they were far enough away that Tryston finally slowed and let go of Constynce's hand. Then after studying her for a long moment he slowly reached up to untie the ribbon holding the witu mask in place. His hands hesitated before he finally removed the mask and spoke one word, her name, "Constynce..."

Wiping at her eyes quickly, she let out a breath and looked at her grandfather with utter confusion as she was pushed. Along with the masked man? "But-?" Her eyes darted around in search of the 'precocious' grandmother of hers. The woman had certainly looked like she was on a mission, but what was that mission? Ellond seemed to be on a mission of his own though! Before she could ask further, he was turning away, her hand was grasped, and the festival became a blur.

Her heart fluttered when she was pulled close, closing her eyes to listen to the elevated heartbeat in the man's chest. Had she known this embrace before..? The moment was over quickly though, and they continued on away from the crowd. While she was happy to be away from the festivities, Constynce felt her own heart racing. Buildings and trees muffled the music and the chatter, allowing her to focus more on figuring out what was going on. If it hadn't been for her grandfather's actions, she probably would have fled by now!

Yet, the gaze of the masked man was intense despite being shadowed by the low lights. She couldn't look away as they stood silently. She slowly started to shake her head, trying to tell herself it was still just her imagination. She surely had never seen those eyes before!

Any sound of the surrounding world went silent while the suspense of the mask dropping filled her. A sob choked out from her throat, hands lifting to cover her mouth with disbelief. There was a little extra wear on it, but that was the face she had wanted to see for so long. That was the voice she had wanted to hear so badly. It was the man she found impossible to let go of, and the avalanche of emotions made her feel like she would burst.

She couldn't stop herself from rushing forward. Wrapping her arms around Tryston, knowing it was him in her arms again, the flood gates burst. "Where were you?" she sobbed out, clinging to him with all her might. "You stopped writing so long ago! I thought you forgot me or had died or-or something!" Unless that was why he was here? Had he come to officially say goodbye? Despite the awful thought, she kept herself pressed against him. "Tryston... Why..?"

If anything the mask had acted like a barrier between his emotions and Constynce. Once it was removed everything seemed to tumble forward, Constynce rushed forward to embrace him and Tryston's own heart leapt in his chest at the contact. Holding the woman he loved felt like a dream. He had spent so many nights missing her that he had forgotten what it was actually like to hold her warmth in his arms again. His gaze softened, his own heart aching at her sobs, and Tryston had to swallow back his own tears. What did she mean? The warrior frowned as he wrapped his arms tightly around Constynce, "I never stopped writing. I thought you had forgotten about me since I never received any response." He admitted quietly as he held onto her, his hands finally moving so that he could rub comforting circles across her back.

Why hadn't his letters reached her? Had she sent him messages as well? Tryston let out a shaky breath as realization and suspicions dawned on him, 'I suppose others weren't so fond of us keeping in touch.' The thought was upsetting, his gaze narrowing before he shook his head. It didn't matter now. Constynce was here and they were together again. The warrior gently reached a hand to tilt Constynce's face towards him, "Please forgive me." He whispered as he wiped the tears from beneath her eyes, "I didn't mean to keep you waiting for so long." His silver gaze was sorrowful as he studied her thoughtfully, "Have you been well?"

Even if he knew the answer to the question it seemed like the most normal thing to ask. What else could he express that wouldn't reveal his own heartache and the tears that burned behind his own silver gaze? He truly had missed Constynce. Reuniting with her was like finding a missing piece of his soul. Zyma and the others had been wrong because in that moment Tryston realized how much he cherished the leaf woman. No one else could ever replace her in his heart. If only he could make certain that she knew that as well.

"Never?" she echoed shakily, tightening her hold even further. How was that possible? How could he have kept writing and have no letter reach her? And how had her letters stopped reaching him?! She was too frazzled to connect the dots and just shook her head. "I sent so many.." She felt a hint of guilt now, thinking about the short collection of letters she hadn't bothered sending from the recent months. She should have kept on trying. It wouldn't have accomplished anything, apparently, but she could have!

Letting her face lift, Constynce pressed her cheek against Tryston's hand. With a small shift, she moved to remove the glove and press her cheek back against Tryston's palm, her hand pressing over his. It was really him! Her eyes lifted to search that face, feeling the tension writhing in her belly. "I was too scared to look for you," she said apologetically in reply. Had they both really been waiting so long? What would have happened if she had gone to find him sooner? She wouldn't be..

Her eyes closed to savor the touch of his hand, but then opened again quickly to savor the sight of his face. She wanted to take it all in. Constynce inhaled sharply, but a reply stuck in her throat. Well? What defined 'well' anymore? Where was she to even begin? It was a simple question without a simple answer. "I guess?" she found herself replying with uncertainty. Physically, she was as well as ever. The various emotional strains of the years were a different story. "Tryston, so much is going on. My grandparents-" her eyes widened slightly as she registered a little information. "They knew you were here? Why were you all hiding it? How long have you been here?"

Tryston's stomach curled at the thought of how many letters had been lost over the years. Why hadn't he received her letters? He didn't doubt that Constynce was telling him the truth. It was just frustrating to think that he had actually believed she had forgotten about him when his own letters had been lost as well. So much time lost...Tryston's shoulders fell at the realization. He was ashamed that he had allowed so much time to pass without coming here to see Constynce himself. If only the battle with the Dretch hadn't happened and if only Lyrie hadn't fallen from the cliff then he would have come so much sooner. Still, he didn't deserve to use such excuses. Surely he could have found a way instead of letting them both suffer for so long, "It's alright." He managed quietly as he gazed at Constynce with tenderness, "We both had our reasons. All that matters is that I'm here now with you." They could figure out the rest now that they were finally together again.

"Ah, well..." Tryston paused, a slight wince flickering across his features as he struggled with exactly what to say, "I just arrived earlier today and came when the festival began. I didn't know exactly how to approach you and by the time I finally got close I met with your grandmother instead. She seemed rather concerned about my presence and your....arrangement." The word tasted bitter in his mouth but he tried to speak calmly instead of just spitting out the word like poison, "So much has happened it seems for both of us."

Constynce took a deep breath and nodded. Tryston was alive, and back in her arms. There would be.. a few details to smooth over first, but she intended to make sure they never had to doubt each other's commitment again.

Her cheeks flared at Tryston's admission. She could only imagine what he must have been thinking to come find her engaged again, and after no letters! If their roles had been reversed, she would probably have felt the same. She probably would not have even been brave enough to approach him at all. "My grandmother?" It took a moment, but soon enough her eyes were going wide with shock. That was why the old woman had been so worked up. A threat to the plan had arrived... Would Galadria really have kept them apart for the sake of the contract? The thought struck through her painfully.

Though it also explained Ellond's strange behavior. She wouldn't have expected such a sentimental move from him, but it warmed her heart enough to ease the pain of her grandmother's lesser motivations. Pressing her lips, she shook her head roughly and held his hand tighter. She wanted to know everything Tryston had gone through the past years, but that would have to wait. "I need to talk to Fezig. He's got to understand."

"Fezig understands his duties to the villages; as should you," Galadria huffed as she approached the pair. Her face was flushed with frustration and the exertion of stomping around in search of where the two had gone. "The marriage will only be of benefit to our communities. What would running off with this mercenary accomplish for us? You and Ellond seem to be forgetting the bigger picture here. I'm ashamed of the both of you!" With Constynce momentarily speechless, Galadria turned her glare on Tryston. "I told you to leave her alone. Step away before you make things even worse! She is needed here, not running around Zena with a hero complex."

It pained Tryston to see Constynce's reaction to the fact that her grandmother was quite against their reunion but he knew that he couldn't hide such a fact from her. Sooner or later it would come to light, especially if the warrior was determined to be with Constynce. Even now he wondered exactly how long they would have together before Galadria came running after them. Still, such thoughts stilled whenever Constynce mentioned speaking to Fezig, "Do you mean that..." His quiet voice stilled as he realized his suspicions were correct and that Constynce's grandmother had once more come to interrupt their reunion. Over the years Tryston had gotten so accustomed to being respected and honored in his home village that receiving such lashings from the older leaf woman were truly frustrating. He had not been in a battle quite like this one before and it definitely was not like he could just use his sword to resolve this.

Taking a deep breath, Tryston squeezed Constynce's hand comfortingly as he turned to face Galadria with a steady gaze. He had already told her before about being called mercenary and chose to ignore the remark. If that was her choice of insult for him then so be it. The warrior took a moment to try and calm his racing heart before allowing its steadied beats to keep his voice even, "You assume many things, I fear." He stated quietly with a small smile, "But I believe the choice should be Constynce's own to make. Isn't marriage a bit archaic for the villages? I've seen many arrangements made that did not require such a commitment when signed written agreements would suffice. I would gladly show some examples since this mercenary has helped establish a few such agreements in Zena during the past two years." He didn't want to bring up Constynce's past arrangement, especially not with her there, but it was all the tempting to remind Galadria once more about how well marriage sealed the deal last time. Was sacrificing her happiness so necessary to the Tale villages? Couldn't there be another way for her to take care of her village besides tying herself to a man she did not love?

Still, he was a man of duty and so Tryston turned his gaze back towards Constynce, "If you truly do not believe there is any other way and wish me gone then say so and I will leave. I did not come here to bring turmoil to your village." He admitted quietly, "I just wanted to see you again. I know that you thrive where things can grow and bloom so I didn't dare think of taking you from Tale before but if you would consider it then I would gladly escort you once again even if only for a short while before bringing you back to see the start of spring."

Galadria opened her mouth to snarl, but forced herself to bite her tongue and take a deep breath. She hadn't lasted this long by letting hooligans get the better of her temper! It was difficult to not get riled up on a matter of such economical and personal importance. It was her village and her granddaughter on the line, after all! "Archaic, you might say, but it is a proven way to forge alliances and bonds. It will work if today's self-centered youths would cease their selfish bickering and think for the group rather than themselves." Honestly, why could they not see that?!

Yet, Tryston's later words made the old woman perk up with hope. "You heard him, Constynce. He knows this is more trouble than it's worth. Now send him off and come along." She held out a wrinkled hand, beckoning firmly. "I'll make sure he is escorted out so that you won't have to think on him another moment."

This whole time, Constynce had just been looking at her grandmother with wet eyes. Trying to make her feel guilt for her love for an 'outsider' that the woman knew almost nothing about... Her head snapped up to meet Tryston's gaze when his words were directed to her. "You.. gone?" She echoed with disbelief. Shaking her head, she actually aimed a glare at her grandmother before shifting to cup her hands along Tryston's jaw. "You showed me that things bloom everywhere; even Zena. That is only half of what I need. I thrive when those around me allow me to.. and I have never done more-so than when I was with you." Determined to show him she was serious, she pulled at his jaw gently and rose onto her toes to catch his lips for a kiss, ignoring the frustrated growl coming from the sidelines. This was what she knew she needed; not an arrangement to mold herself to, but a promise that had so easily meshed with who she already was.

Unless your husband tries to kill you. But Tryston kept his mouth tightly closed, his silver gaze cool and still despite the frustrations rising inside of him. His whole life had been thinking of the bigger picture and it was for that very reason that he had nearly lost Constynce once again. Why couldn't the older leaf woman see that she was causing her own blood pain? His own mentor who wasn't related to him by blood but called him son was far more considerate than this. Did she truly believe that this was the only way to attain peace? If she thought that his affections for her granddaughter were just a fling, a fleeting sensation then surely the last four years had proven otherwise. Tryston had never once stopped thinking of Constynce nor had he strayed despite the efforts of others to convince him to move on. If only he could somehow convince the older leaf woman that his intentions were true and worthwhile! But it felt like talking to a wall, a very stubborn and unmoving thing indeed. Then again Tryston supposed it would be expected considering that from her perspective he was just some warrior from Zena. The thought made his chest constrict, frustrations building at his own unknown heritage. If he had been born the son of a village leader then life surely would have been easier....but he would never regret being found by Lyrie and raised with the brotherhood. Never. Just like he would never regret how he felt about Constynce.

Still, his heart was clouded in shadows the more Galadria spoke. Would he be able to offer Constynce such luxuries like the village leader's son would? Could he truly whisk her away to Zena? Would she despise him for it later? Hesitation dared to rear its head again before Constynce's touch chased all doubts away. Tryston's gaze softened at her words and then when her lips caught his the ice warrior couldn't help but to react. Years of longing of pent up emotions and fears dissolved into the kiss. Tryston deepened the kiss, his own emotions obvious as he held the leaf woman in his arms. The rare shimmer of tears threatened his gaze before Tryston slowly broke away, "I love you." He whispered quietly, his voice quieter than a spring's breeze, "If this is what you want then I will gladly help you." He could take her out of here and bring her back with him until things had calmed down. If she wanted to talk to this Fezig then they would. If he needed to take responsibility for breaking the arrangement then he was fully committed to doing so.

All that mattered was Constynce. Tryston took a deep breath and stared back towards Galadria, preparing himself for whatever the older leaf woman was about to throw at them next.

Constynce couldn't stop the flood that pressed out of her when that most precious kiss was returned. Her arms shifted to hug around his neck, eager to keep him close now that he was there. Lips parting with a soft sigh, she brushed her thumbs along Tryston's cheeks tenderly. "I love you," she replied gently, pulling one hand back to wipe at the dampness slipping down her own face. There might be hell to pay later, but she felt as though had never been more certain of herself in anything. "I mean, if this is what you want, too" she found herself saying in a surprisingly playful manner. She couldn't imagine him saying anything otherwise!

Galadria was practically hyperventilating. "Constynce, what is with you? What will we do if Fezig finds out about this?"

"Fezig will be delighted," Ellrond spoke up, resting his hand onto his wife's shoulder. "He is more than happy to adjust the contract so that everyone ends up with what they need."

Galadria gawked at him. "Ellond, what have you done? The bonds-!"

Ellond sighed and patted his wife's shoulder. "My love, you will make yourself ill with such concerns. There is an easy answer here. I could not see it before, but the truth is now right here in front of us." Tightening his jaw, Ellond strode forward with his eyes firmly on Tryston. "Young man, we thought she had been taken from us as her family had been so long ago. Having her back was an unimaginable gift. I trust you have at least an inkling of understanding for that feeling…" He wetted his lips and turned to Constynce to brush her hair back, using his years of experience to hold back his own tears. "We were so afraid to lose you again. We just wanted you to be safe and secure here with us after past mistakes. I can admit now that we went about it the wrong way, but it is time to set this right." He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his granddaughter's forehead. "You are old enough and strong enough to make your own choices. Your happiness is more important to me than old formalities. You will choose what is right for you."

If she thought she couldn't get any more emotional that evening, Constynce was proven wrong. Tears flowing fresh, she released Tryston long enough to give Ellond a tight, grateful hug. She would never have thought to hear such a thing from him! The old arms circled around her in return, and she felt as though she would burst. Beyond, she could see her grandmother having a mental war, face awash with shock and embarrassment. That was going to be a tougher sell, but she hoped Ellond would be able to make Galadria see why this was right for them. Falling back, she couldn't hide the overwhelmed smile from beaming on her face when she looked back at Tryston.

Despite their circumstances, Tryston couldn't resist smiling at Constynce's teasing, "I wouldn't have it any other way." He replied quietly, his habit of speaking the truth instead of responding with teasing still strong as ever. Thankfully at least he recognized this time that she was just being playful and not truly questioning his desires. At this point they both knew what they wanted and he held his whole world in his arms finally. Why would he ever say no? The thought made him press a kiss lightly to the top of her head as he held onto her protectively. No matter what they were in this together now.

And it looked like they weren't alone.

Relief instantly filled Tryston's chest as Ellond came forward and spoke to his wife. If Constynce's grandfather was supportive then surely everything would work out, "Thank you." He replied quietly, his gaze sincere as he faced the older leaf man, "I will protect her with my life." A true promise and one that the warrior would never forget. He understood that the older leaf male was leaving him with a precious gift and he truly respected the elder for the blessing. As Constynce pulled back, Tryston couldn't help smiling at the bright expression on her face. This was much better than carrying her away to Zena where she would surely mourn her family. He truly was grateful to Ellond for his support and Tryston wanted to make certain that the other man knew this.

"I was not lying when I said that I don't want to harm your village." He commented after a thoughtful moment, "I know that Sauti lies between Zena and Tale but the trade routes cut through all three countries and tie together. If you ever need supplies from Ashe, Eia and Dulban please let me know and we can work to strengthening an arrangement with the traders." Surely they were not Zidel but that did not matter because those three settlements had the most trade. They were known as the belt villages for their rich resources and trade. Tryston's men were located between Seccer and those villages and so had deep connections, he was certain merchants would be eager to add another village to their trading route. If there was anything else he could do to help transition away from the old formalities that he was breaking by stealing Constynce from this arrangement he was more than willing considering the blessing that Ellond had just given them.

Ellond watched Tryston a moment longer before nodding. "Your offer is appreciated. The extra connections will be of nothing but a benefit to all of us." The world was changing before his eyes, and it was foolish to imagine they could keep employing the same tactics as they had years ago. The old ways had their place, but also needed to be flexible with the changing times; as did he. "Just let us know your plans when you have them figured out." Giving Constynce's hair another affectionate pat, he turned to walk back to his shell-shocked wife. "Come. You could use a cup of tea. I would like one as well. We have a contract to renew."

Galadria fumbled for words, shuffling between anger and confusion and humiliation as she was guided away. Of course, looking back at the younger pair, she managed to toss Tryston one more scathing look before they vanished around the edge of a hut.

Constynce wiped at her eyes again. Everything would work out. Fezig would surely propose to Viatka the moment the new contract was signed, Ellond and Galadria would see even more resources help the village flourish, and she... With a squeak of delight, she jumped back against Tryston to hug him tightly. "Tryston.." she started, though words choked in her throat. The relief washed through her like a tidal wave, leaving her feeling weak. All at once, her life was hers again, and she was going to be able to share it with the only man to ever have such a hold on her heart while still keeping close to the last family she had left. It was almost too good to be true, making her hug tighter.

"We will." Tryston replied with a firm nod. As he watched the older couple slowly walk away the ice warrior felt the tension leaving his shoulders. It still almost felt like a dream. He had come here prepared to say goodbye to Constynce but here he was holding her in his arms instead. Clutching her tightly, almost as if making certain that the body was truly in his arms and not an illusion, Tryston let out a sigh of relief. He had been through so many battles before and this event had felt like the most important one of all. After a long moment, Tryston placed a light kiss on top of Constynce's head, "The festival?" He asked quietly as he held her in his arms, "Or a walk?"

A lot had happened this evening and he was still working to process it all. While he had faith in his words about contracts the warrior was still wary. Would tomorrow change her family's minds? It was almost tempting to leave tonight but he knew that he had to trust Ellond's faith. If the older man had given them their blessing then they could stay and make plans. His silver eyes softened softly as he studied the woman nestled within his arms, "Are you alright?" He finally asked the realization that surely tonight had been chaos for Constynce was well. Not only had he arrived but they both had found out about her grandmother's antics in keeping them apart. So many years lost...the thought made him feel guilty. Even if his letters hadn't arrived it wouldn't have mattered if he had just managed to come back earlier.

"I'm sorry I kept you waiting." Tryston repeated softly, "I never meant to cause you so much pain." He felt as if he couldn't apologize enough. Each tear that fell from her eyes had been like a stab to his own heart. What sort of protector was he to leave her alone for so long? He felt so ashamed and yet she had never forgotten him. Just as he had never forgotten her. What a fool he had been to think that he would arrive at the village only to say his goodbyes. I should have known. His gaze burned at the thought before he silently hugged Constynce tightly once more.

Blinking her vision clear, Constynce glanced toward the radiant lights nearby. She had already forgotten about the festival completely! The thought of returning to the bustling festivities had a rather dampening affect on her gut though, and she shook her head slightly. "Walk," she agreed, though her arms remained tight around Tryston. Her body wanted to lockdown in the moment, and never let it go.

Letting out a long sigh, Constynce could only nod. Her heart was still thudding in her chest from the excitement of what had just occurred, and her mind continued racing through the multiple revelations of the night. Mind and body were only slowly reconnecting to allow her body to relax its hold, and her mind to calm just a little. Whatever had happened before, they had each other now. "It's.. certainly a lot to think about," she managed with a huff of a laugh. It was either that or start crying again!

Speaking of which... her brow knit sharply and she hugged tighter again when she felt his embrace around her do the same. "Just.. let's not put ourselves through that again," she murmured. Shifting so that she could look up at that handsome face, she allowed a smile to rise again. No, there would be no doubting each other again if she had anything to say about it! She pushed herself up to tenderly steal herself another kiss, letting it linger for a long moment. She had missed everything about him, all those bygone years...

Sighing again, she let herself drop and dared to start peeling herself off of him. "Walk?" She asked, giving him a small tug.
