Well, Sumner did something! Though he wasn't sure if it was Athalia's magic running out that was how it worked right? or if he had actually done some damage to it, but he managed to break the shield. It shattered and Sumner would have left it at that however, he only had a moment to notice the movement of the Senshi and jumped back only just in time to barely miss the fist that he was afraid would have given him internal bruising if he had been hit by it. He wasn't sure how strong Page's were even compared to Basic Senshi, but he didn't want to get hurt to find out! It took a moment for his brain to process what had happened, and he could only smile at the Senshi. "I'm guessing that's a lesson to say that fighting the enemy is going to be different, right?" He could have asked a much longer sentence, perhaps that the enemy couldn't be underestimated or they would be unpredictable or whatever, but he decided that was enough. He was sure that it would at least encompass any lesson that Athalia wanted him to learn from that unexpected punch.

"Well played," Athalia's compliment was as swift as Sumner's dodging had been. Given he had come up empty and swung in to the air he had to appreciate that the Page had managed to get out of the way. There was definitely some natural talent in there and given enough exposure, Sumner was likely to become a little more dangerous than he might realise... well, provided he was able to channel whatever infuriated him enough!
"You're quick, add that to the fact that you've got the hint of some form in you and it looks like we have the building blocks of something good," he mused. He pulled his fist back, slipping his thumbs into his sash as he regarded Sumner's assessment on why he had acted the way he had. Truth be told, he could have lied and agreed that this was exactly the type of lesson he had wanted to teach but the reality...
"I'll be honest, I just wanted to see if you could do it," he admitted. "You can learn a great deal from someone when you throw a curve ball," he explained and then pursed his lips.
"But we could pretend that it was something more insightful if you'd prefer?" he offered and chuckled. "Honestly I figured I'd save the Mr. Miyagi cliches for something a little more useful than a lesson in landing a punch though," he conceded.
"Maybe when I've asked you to stand on a wooden pole out in a lake somewhere while you learn how to find your centre and kick the air," his expression was deadpan, but hopefully he wouldn't be taken too seriously.

Sumner smirked. "It's fine with me." Dropping the smirk he nodded. "I appreciate it. It sounds like I might be able to do something at least. Hopefully I'll be able to add my magic to it." Whatever it was. He knew he didn't get it until he became a Squire, but who knew when that would be. He hadn't asked how one was to go about and get that to happen. He could see if he Pendour would be willing to explain it to him. "I do appreciate whatever you were trying to do though. It gives me something to think about at least." He had learned something today at least. However, he could tell that it was getting late. How it had happened he wasn't sure, but he could have sworn they weren't out here for that long. "I think we'll need to save another step for another day, but I'll continue to practice the punching. I shouldn't have to use it in the meantime." He would prefer not having to battle any Agents on his patrols. Even if he was learning how to fight, that didn't mean he could do it in battle just yet.

"Should you have to use it just make sure you commit to it," he advised. Someone didn't have to be good at what they were doing to win, they just had to mean what they were trying to do. If Sumner was at risk then, provided he genuinely wanted to protect himself, it stood to reason that he could probably do some solid damage even without training. For now though, Athalia had no interest in lecturing an individual to get involved in fights they didn't feel ready for... if anything, it was a smart approach.
"Outside of that practice is the best way to go about it," he agreed and motioned towards the city with a small smile. "It won't wait forever, but it'll manage on its own for a while yet before it really needs for someone to step up," he pointed out. He didn't know if this was true, it could be on the cusp now, but it genuinely seemed like it would be ok for the time being.
"And when you're ready you'll know where to find me," he added with a wry smile. "Then you can hit me properly and we'll compare notes to how much you've improved within that time," he paused.
He'd done enough talking though and it seemed that for now it would be appropriate to let Sumner be on his way. Athalia did have his own rounds to do and he'd have much preferred to get them done before too many people woke up that were coherent enough to understand what was in front of them!
"Take it easy until then," he finished and with that, turned on his heel, slipped his thumbs into his sash and took his leave.

Sumner nodded. "I will." He had to discipline himself, just like how he did training to be a lifeguard. Well, not exactly, but in the sense that he had to work on it. "And thanks. I hope that we can meet again soon. Maybe I can show you other things that I've managed to work on and try them out." He didn't know what those things were, but perhaps he could work on things such as dodging or whatnot. They had VRs that could do that, right? He sent a wave to the other as the Senshi left and he let out a sigh, taking another look at his uniform and making a face. He didn't mind it so much, but it still stuck out a little and he certainly couldn't walk home dressed in it. So he powered down and went on his way as well, making sure to keep in mind what he had learned from today. Epine de Rose fin on my end as well! Thank you for the rp!
