Varinia found herself home alone which was quite a rare occurrence. Usually at least one of the girls was around but today both were out doing their own thing. They were growing so fast...Varinia thought to herself. It seemed like just yesterday she had brought them into the world where they had just been two screaming and squirming bundles of emotions. She felt like she and Reillan had raised them well so far. Reina had become fast friends with the Prince which of course was what she had hoped for upon first introducing them after seeing how Nicias kept most people at an arm's length. A smile formed on her mouth knowing that the friendship formed between them was something that was helping Reina find her own path in life as well. Vari, personally, was glad that she was able to give her girls the type of life they had and neither of them had to experience anything that she or Reil had dealt with when they were young. She had been thinking a lot since the mid season festival about how far she had come and where she was now. Yet, she couldn’t help but feel at a loss for some reason and it was just a little niggle in the back of her head. With a sigh, she pulled out one of the baskets that held her sewing things in it. Keeping her hands busy helped her mind to focus once more on something productive and sewing had been something she had done for most of her life, an invaluable skill that her mother had taught her. Vari remembered the smiles on her sisters’ faces when they were younger when she’d make them something new or even when she had the time and quality material to make something for the kids of the families she babysat. Usually the parents would pay her for the outfits which was always an added bonus. She remembered when she had put down her needles in favor of her spear and had started training hard after that. While she was never sure, it always made her think that having the weapon skills she had surely had made some difference when the king had decided to hire her. Yet, after all of that, it always seemed like she went back to sewing when she needed to clear her mind. It was never something she did to just get money, yes she had earned some money for her wares throughout her life but it was a hobby to her; sewing was something she simply enjoyed doing. With a smile, she set down the small dress she was making. There had always been something she wanted to try to learn...she had always wanted to learn how to do leatherworking to incorporate some stitchwork into light armor. Just because women wore armor too didn’t mean it couldn’t look pretty at the same time! Varinia took a moment to think about it. She would have the time now...the girls were older and didn’t need so much of her attention. Naevius was married now and Vasili helped with a lot of the aspects of running the compound that Varinia had once helped the princess with. Nicias no longer required a nanny and the royal family had enough guards employed. While she was still employed by the Royal family, her duties were limited now and she found herself with much more free time than she’d really ever had. Perhaps it was time to do something for herself. Perhaps now Varinia had earned that luxury. She nodded to herself and the empty room as she picked up her work once more. Varinia would work on her skills as a seamstress and perhaps open her own shop if there was enough interest in her work. If she could find someone willing to teach her leatherworking then she’d try to pick up that skill as well. Vari smiled, it was time to do something for herself. She was going to become a seamstress.
[In this class quest, Varinia reflects on her life, thinking back to how so much of it has been lived doing things for others and working for others. She’s decided now that her other duties as a mom and an employee of the Royal family are lessening that it’s time to do something for herself and follow a path that was always just a hobby but also secretly a passion.]
