He wanted a fan? Cybele's smile softened a little. "All right," she said. "Your magic is great." She put just a bit too much emphasis on the last word, half-teasingly overexcited, before she sobered again. "It's true, though." One of her newer projects was finding effective magic combinations, and while she wasn't sure how much more effective her own speed and focus powers would do for someone standing firm as a shield, she tried to mentally pair up other senshi magics with his. "It's always nice not getting hit, and if you can find someone with a ranged attack, you'll be nearly unstoppable." That would involve getting him more comfortable with his powers, as well. She nodded when he mentioned a source, glancing back towards the sky. "You want to go to space?" To Cybele, it seemed from the way he was talking now that he did know about space, and while she wasn't as excited as she'd been talking about magic, she didn't talk about it like it was anything strange, either. "It could work. It seems worth a try." She squinted at Megrez, the one star she'd taught herself to pick out from the Big Dipper. The reason space gave other people more answers than her was because she kept her distance, and she knew that. It was just difficult to care about an asteroid when there were monsters to hunt. "I'm not an expert on that sort of thing, either, but I know a bit." She summoned her phone. "I can show you how to get there."

"Sweet, now I just have to print some bookmarks and pamphlets then I'll have myself a fanclub," he smirked. Evidently he wasn't taking it seriously and could appreciate that she had played along with it. That being said she had at least been in a similar mindset to him, she'd elected to bring in elements of other senshi and their abilities to improve the overall probability of success.
She was right, someone who was ranged would be fairly unstoppable if they had someone else to take the blows. He would probably be fairly tanky and immovable if he had someone to heal him and so on. He was glad that someone else could appreciate that and it did give him hope that he might find others who would feel the same way in a strong enough capacity to potentially stick around.
...They could handle far more as a team.
"I think it might help," he said finally and glanced up briefly towards the stars. He may not be right in his assumption, it was all guess work, but he had to at least try so that he didn't risk hurting anyone around him unless he was meant to. If he could address that challenge then eventually he would be able to focus on what was arguably more important and that was to prevent chaos from extending its reach.
"I mean if it doesn't turn out that way then I guess I can say I've been to space as a conversation starter but right now I thought it would be best to explore every option," he admitted.

"Space should be more than a conversation starter," said Cybele. "Although to be fair I'm sure there are people around who can talk about it for hours." For some reason, she remembered the way Anser's brother had tried to get her to talk about the plants on her asteroid when she'd been in the middle of a panic. Under other circumstances, she might have obliged him and ended up with a proper connection. "Don't be surprised if you have some sort of vision of the past," she said. "It's part of our connection to these places. If you're lucky, another Sailor Athalia could have solved the same problem you're having right now." That would involve either quite a bit of luck or some sort of nudge on the world's part, which Cybele wasn't sure she trusted, but he was right. If he wanted full access to this magic, anything would be worth a try. "I think the knights have also been finding some technology up there, and they're starting to link space with Transcendence, I believe." She broke her focused, musing stare into the distance to look back at him. "That's a state that gives you a bit of extra protection" No, she was not an encyclopedia by any means, especially when it came to this, but over time she'd picked up a lot of surface level information. "When it comes to how I spend my own time, I tend to think dusting youma is a bit more valuable than dusting off a ruin," she said, "But if you're looking for answers, space is probably where you should start."

"I can appreciate that," he nodded. "They're not vulnerable to anything else except us and it's unfair to leave others exposed to them," he added. He'd found that out the hard way, had the Mauvian not been there to intervene then Athalia could have been another statistic against a monster that was immune to standard weaponry.
"But as I am now, it's safe to say that if I misstep someone is going to get hurt and I'd prefer to minimise the collateral damage," he murmured. He could fight well enough on his own, but if he had to intervene to protect another senshi and his magic picked that moment to backfire, it wouldn't just be him caught in any blasts. If he was going to be able to protect the city, then he'd need to get himself under control first. Once he succeeded in that he could turn his attention to it in earnest.
Visions of a past life though, were simply going to have to be a bridge he crossed when he came to it. She'd referenced them, but she had said 'may' and he could only assume this was entirely dependent on whether certain things or entities felt otherwise inclined to intervene.
"I'll keep it in mind and not to react with too much shock if it happens," he smiled warmly. "But right now I don't think it's me who needs the extra protection," he added. It wasn't intended to sound cocky, more of an acknowledgement that his existing magic needed to be looked at before he could investigate whatever special secrets might lie that. Alternatively he may just find a dusty set of nothingness and he'd have to consider his options elsewhere.
"Not that I won't stop being a massive inconvenience to any chaos agents I happen to find in the meantime, but I'd still prefer to get to the bottom of this eventually, you know?" he chuckled.
Rest assured, even in his current state he was prepared to get his hand's dirty!

Athalia may not have been intending to sound cocky, but Cybele's eyes narrowed anyway. "Yes, you are the one who needs the extra protection," she said. "I'm not saying Transcendence should be your goal when we still don't truly know how it works, but there are other things. Learning control is a form of protection. Mastering your shields is a form of protection. So is knowing your enemy. " There was something cold and deadly serious in her tone. She'd been reading her audience, and she didn't think Athalia was the type who needed things watered down. "Reducing collateral damage is equally important, but protection is why we do what we do. Hopefully over time you'll be able to extend that protection to other people, but that's not the sort of thing you'll be able to worry about if you're dead." Cybele had seen far too many people snuffed out, or worse. It was true that she was contradicting herself, a little. She hunted. She hunted recklessly. She didn't go looking through ancient places for slivers of things that could maybe help, but she told herself it was different. She was an Eternal. She'd obviously learned how to survive. Some of the sudden tension softened again. "Sorry," she said. "I can tell you have good instincts, and you're even doing what you can with the magic. It can just be," she pursed her lips, "Difficult to tell just serious things can be at first. I'd stay away from Generals for the time being, but I'm sure you can give the rest plenty of trouble." She smiled. "Do you have any other questions?"

It was better not to correct or temper someone in the middle of a lecture, she had the need to say what she had said and even if he considered it misplaced and a touch unwarranted, she probably had her reasons for it. Given that she softened soon after, she was already aware that she might have been just a touch extreme in regards to the words of caution.
He was old enough to make a sound judgement, new to this particular role or not, he wasn't a spring chicken and had seen more than enough in general to hedge his bets when he needed to. Nevertheless he hadn't experienced what she had, hadn't seen what she had, and with that in mind he couldn't chastise her for what genuinely considered to be a necessary warning.
Fortunately for her, he had no intention of biting off more than he could chew for the time being. In Athalia's world there would be no Generals while he was in no condition to face them, and even then, he wasn't about to thrown stones in glass houses to begin with. If he was going to pick a battle, it was in his best interests to win!
"I don't think I have anything at the moment," he confirmed with a shake of his head. "I think you've given me more than enough to ponder over for the time being and I think it's safe to say I've got quite a bit of work ahead of me," he added and folded his arms across his chest.
"I appreciate the help."

If Cybele felt that he wasn't taking her warning seriously enough she didn't show it. When she had been new, lecture after lecture had gone neatly over her head and she hadn't really noticed the danger of this life until she'd seen death and found her own starseed in someone else's hand. She couldn't expect more of anyone else, but she also couldn't let any new senshi go without a bit of the serious talk, even if he was older than her. For now, she nodded as he said she'd raised some things to ponder. "It can be a lot. It does start to fall into place a bit over time." It didn't take long at all for youma and magic to become everyday topics of conversation. "Feel free to text me if you think of anything else," she said. She pulled her phone out of the subspace pocket and frowned at it for a second. She had finally just about figured out her regular smartphone, and all the apps on this one worked just slightly differently. Still, it managed to register Athalia as a contact. All right. "Not just questions," she said. "Being a senshi can feel very isolated at times, but it shouldn't have too. I'll be around." She gave him the same professional smile as before, and then, with a deep nod, she turned to leave.

Credit where it was due, the Mauvians knew how to build some decent tech. This was the first time he'd seen the phone register anyone, he wasn't entirely sure how it had done it, but it had done it effectively. He'd pry that little bit of detail out of one of the beings who made them though, alongside asking why his looked like a brick and her's looked suitably more modern.
"That would be nice," he replied, and he meant it. While it was nice to have someone to ask questions to, it was much more comforting to know that if he needed anything else then he might be able to find them. Granted he did expect coffee dates or generalised social gatherings, but the ability to call for help or to simply have some company during the evening on patrol would make a world of a difference.
"I promise I'll behave myself," he added, potentially referring to her warnings regarding his own safety. While he might not have seen the need for such a direct warning it did seem to have mattered to her and it wasn't in his nature to disrespect good intentions. "But make sure you look after yourself as well, all right?"
He wouldn't keep her any longer though, she did have duties to attend to and he'd gathered those were important to her. He on the other hand, had some further research to do, and then he would have to begin to address his challenge in earnest.
With that in mind he offered a slight wave of farewell and turned on his heel; he'd take another turn around the area to confirm it was clear and then he would return home.
